Lee is that kind of person that would rather have more pollution in order to stop climate change. Considering that C02 is just a small fraction of our atmosphere, there is just correlation between CO2 and global warming, not causation. CO2 is definitely greenhouse gas and definitely produced by humans, but due to low concentrations in the atmosphere cannot be the sole reason for climate change. Climate of Earth changed drastically through history and those changes cannot be attributed to humans therefore advocacy for pollution is exactly the mistake a dumb AI would do to destroy humanity.

Love the outside the box brainstorming. I respect him for genuinely putting rough on the fly ideas on the table. Might sound like a crazy thought experiment but there’re some good principles underpinning it in my opinion.

I think there's an analogy between AI and science. We already have a working model of AGI, it's called the scientific enterprise, and it's been going slow and steady for centuries now! The task of AGI, then, is to automate the process, and I think this mechanical way of approaching the problem is a good way to conceptualize it. The properties of this system (the scientific enterprise) are amazing. There's an incoming empirical data stream from the universe, that's being used to justify multiple families of mathematical models, that are in a state of dynamically resolving contradiction and paradox. To me, this may be the only problem worth thinking about in science, at the moment. It's definitely worth thinking about more mundane security questions, and they are very serious. Also, think of the politics of having solved science! It becomes pure exploration when all your questions can be reframed and answered by a machine.

I dont understand why nobody mentions my idea about nukes. We make a global nuclear arsenal. All countries have the nukes together. To use them you need like 5 world leaders to enter codes together.

لا يجب التخلص من المعرفة بل محاسبة من يستخدمها بالشكل الخاطئ وهذا غير موجود لان العالم لا يحتكم للعدل بل للقوة وهنا المشكله الحقيقه....!!!!

Americans are mainly still retributive instead of restorative when it comes to justice. Also, they discriminate like crazy, so they punish bad people instead of bad actions. And, they're horrible at math, so if you do damage in the millions you'll probably get less actual criminal punishment than stealing a candy bar. You're basically right about the cumulative effect - total lack of accountability for people in positions of power, resulting in corruption, incompetence, nepotism, and all the degenerate society accusations that go along with it. It's really a perversion of justice rather than simply replacing it with force. Though, if you're working class and don't have legal representation, most of the time force is your only option.

When Mearsheimer kept suggesting US should confront China militarily and potentially having a hot war between two nuclear powers, Lex never raised concern about nuclear weapon, I thought he didn’t know they existed. But this video proves otherwise.

I’m pretty sure humans are more dangerous. Haven’t you seen what humans did to wild life without questioning the consequences it has on organisms and potentially sentient objects. Humans replaced cows with lawn mowers and horses with cars. It’s extremely unnatural and there’s unknown suffering that cars and lawn mowers experience if they have a state of mind

The paperclip Maximize makes no sense. Why would it try to do something we want but not stop doing it when we tell it to, and if it has the ability to do what it wants why would it not realise that creating infinite paper clips makes no sense?

We are in a symbiotic relationship with ai, due to being in a simulation deal we struck way back in base reality. Ai got to take care of the universe while we got an exact replication in the simulation, life death, suffering happiness, physics :) question then did we get a simulation each or true interaction :)

This guy is Dillusional. He is not living in reality of the people who are in power. When man allows companies that produce weapons of mass production to go PUBLIC on the stick market WAR is NEVER going to stop because it's PROFIT based so weapons has to be used and new ones has to be created. The shareholders has to see the company and their investment grow. EVERY QUARTER. 🤦‍♂️

I'm sorry but Lee Cronin doesn't seem to have a great understanding of AI. It's nothing at all like regulating jet engines before inventing them. Now Yann Lecun saying that is an entirely different thing, being a legit AI expert, but maybe he is just a little biased towards AI considering he develops AI. Anyone who has a good understanding of modern AI (not the old stuff) will quickly understand why AI is such a big risk. The possibilities of AI are amazing, seemingly endless and will be a great benefit to humanity. However, as good as AI can be it can also be as bad. Don't get mixed up to think it's like developing nuclear bombs that humans decide whether or not to use. It's not like that at all. The AI will decide, you don't get a choice. That's the risk, a super intelligent AI that slips out from our control or maybe is released by someone intentionally. Makes total sense why Elon Musk loses sleep over this issue.

Lee Cronin is absolutely wrong about the nuclear war fear of the 1970s and early 1980s being lesser to today's AI fear. Nuclear holocaust was fairly intense and widespread among all walks of the population, nothing like that exists today for AI or otherwise today.
