That tingling on the face is a form of irritation and can lead to hyperpigmentation. Not recommended for sensitive skin of colour. Face is different from hand, that dehydration can lead to excess oil production and then acne. Also dyhydrated skin is prone to more damage and aging. Hydrated skin allows for better cell turnover and healing.

The tingling does come from the alcohol, but it's been found that it doesn't translate to harm to skin, it just shows that your barrier is damaged. Kind of like how water will do the same on a paper cut...

Well my skin reacts really badly when there is alcool ( i mean a lot) in products even if I hydrate and moisturize well. It goes dry and start to produce more oil to compensate and most of the time after that i break out. There starts the biggest problem because as a mixed person my skin got hyperpigmented and it takes months to get rid of it. So I may be wrong about it but for people of color I think that it can be different.
@melanieg.90922 жыл бұрын
Yeah my oily dehydrated skin also can't handle it. I think the product itself has to be formulated to still be hydrating enough as she said but I haven't found anything that outweighs it on my skin. So yeah maybe we're to sensitive lol

My HG Japanese jumbo-sized toner has alcohol as the second or third ingredient, possibly because it contains a lot of botanical extracts that may have been made using alcohol. But the toner itself isn't drying in the slightest, just fairly light and refreshing. It doesn't smell of alcohol and it doesn't sting. Any product is going to be so much more than just its ingredients list. ❤

Depends on what it's doing to your face - your face tends to be more sensitive, especially if you use a lot of active ingredients. Facial skin also tends to have more pores, so the potential for clogged pores is greater.

Busting myths as usual 😎
@nikkiwilliams34912 жыл бұрын
Not recommended if you have dry or sensitive skin even with moisturizing ingredients added. I got a neck rash (skin burn really) that has yet to heal after using LRP UVmune sunscreen (tried hydrating one and new shaka fluid formula). The sunscreens reek of alcohol. Disrupted my skin barrier. While alcohol may help sunscreen dry down, it caused inflammation for me, dehydration and eczema flare. Not for everyone regardless of studies. Hope they make a UVmune sensitive skin formula in future because I love LRP. But they shouldn't be promoting their sunscreens with alcohol listed as third ingredient after water as safe for sensitive skin.
@LabMuffinBeautyScience2 жыл бұрын
It could be any of the other ingredients in the very long list, many of which are far more associated with inflammation and irritation - why single out the one that has very little evidence of skin barrier disruption?
@nikkiwilliams34912 жыл бұрын
@@LabMuffinBeautyScienceI thought the same initially. These are new filters. Maybe true in theory, for skin at baseline, but patient testimonials and experience are also sufficient evidence, especially where already compromised skin is concerned. I think there is way too much alcohol in the new UVmune formulas and not enough moisturizing ingredients to balance it all out for my eczema prone skin. I have fewer issues with Eucerin's new sunscreen with alcohol in lower concentration. I got a physical burn from immediate use of the new LRP sunscreens. Funny enough it was the new Hydrating UVmune that caused more irritation than the new lighter shaka fluid version. My guess is the alcohol concentration matters. Just not good to market it safe for already compromised skin. My derm also indicated that in practice it is not recommended that patients with sensitive skin and eczema use alcohol based products. I agree with you it really depends on the formula. And alcohol can cause dehydration like you said for baseline skin. However, the more dehydration eczema skin is exposed to the more chance of a burn according to my derm. Curious why aren't there more studies re alcohol on facial skin vs. hand sanitizers on hand skin? Why didn't you include studies on facial skin for comparison?
@LabMuffinBeautyScience2 жыл бұрын
I mean any of the other ingredients - there are about 30 in the list, so it could be any of them or a combination, and on top of that there's concentration effects. The issue with testimonials based on products is that you can't identify which ingredient or ingredient combo is the culprit. Unfortunately a lot of dermatologists aren't entirely on top of the literature when it comes to non-drug ingredients and their effects on skin. Here's a breakdown of the research on alcohol in skincare: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLpdacWLupaRkmw.html There are more studies on hand skin because governments allocate research funding based on expected benefit - it's much easier to get funding t research how to deal with healthcare workers' hand eczema than for skincare.

Ms. Muffin this isn’t the hill to die on. I’ve tried several products with high concentrations of alcohol denat and they’ve wrecked my skin barrier. I also use tret every night (which my skin is fine with now) so my usually hardy skin can’t handle harsh alcohols at all
@LabMuffinBeautyScience2 жыл бұрын
But there's no known mechanism by which alcohol would wreck your skin barrier, aside from dehydration (which can be overcome with other ingredients)? If your skin barrier is already compromised (e.g. by using tret), alcohol will make it sting, but stinging doesn't mean damage (e.g. plain water stings cuts). See this video for more details: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLpdacWLupaRkmw.html

I’m not opposed to alcohol in products. But it’s probably not the best option for compromised or really dry skin barriers depending on the how certain products are formulated. Only a couple of way to tell really is to just try it out or see if alcohol is at top of the ingredient list haha
