There is so much that goes into determining safe materials for use in implantation- literally, hundreds of hours of research, testing, and studies done to determine what is safe. It's important as piercers that we lean on the medical and scientific communities in this and trust the evidence of what we put in people's bodies. Sadly, many low-quality companies have caught onto this, and are doing what they can with misleading marketing to make you believe any titanium is safe. Don't get taken advantage of- stick with reputable brands and trusted materials.

Thank you for this 🖤 As someone who has a lot of surgical titanium implants and hyperfixated on chemistry I'm hyper aware of how important the quality of metals used in the body are. My bridge is proper implant grade titanium and I actually have gone through an MRI with it on as it was deemed safe (they only do this in hospitals that can scan it first. I just had it done do couldn't take it out. Most MRI suites do not habe the equipment to do this for planned scans tho so font expect to go in with jewelry on.) Especially for people with autoimmune issues who cannot even use gold or people with allergies its important to know the difference in metals and the qualities of them. Your channel is such a great harm reduction resource for those into body mods 🖤🖤🖤

i havent watched the video yet (i mean its chronologically impossible) but i just wanted to say that i love your videos and blog posts,,, however would it be possible to make them at least a bit louder? i usually watch youtube at 40% volume if im not using headphones, and i have to turn it up all te way when i watch you. its not like a huge issue but if you could make them louder id appreaciate it. anyway hope you have a nice day

Seconded, the lower than average volume means the loud ads are a real jumpscare too 😭

I've never had a problem with the volume BUT I also support it being louder because you can always turn it down, but there's a limit to how much you can turn it up!

Thank you for this video. I recently stretched my septum from 14g to 12g with a titanium ring. Turns out it was G2 titanium 😬 now I know what to look for!

Excellent video Lynn ! By watching your videos I've really started to notice descriptions of jewelry on sites and the fact that a bunch of them are selling absolute junk. Thank you and look forward to more !

Yes, you have touched on an important issue, so far few people have paid attention to the grade and purity of titanium, which is something I have insisted on for a long time. VGACETI has always insisted on using more than G2 material to make titanium earrings, the metal detection of the finished product, the purity of titanium reached more than 99.5%, all the earrings are mirror polished, but also to provide the best wear sense for sensitive people.

So ASTM 136 covers elemental composition but not surface finish right? I've been seeing low cost jewelry on sites like Body Art Forms that is listed as ASTM 136 (like $10 for a clicker ring). Part of me thinks it should be okay bc it's a safe material, right? But I still am hesitant bc "too good to be true", ya know? (Also nice mug! :)

Yes it does not cover surface finish, threading, counter sink, etc.

If you wanted some clarification from a company to make sure it's legit and whanot, how would one go about doing that? Like are there certification(s) they can show you (or should be shown on their site)? I'm not sure what exactly to ask for and how to tell if it's legit or they're scamming you. Just curious what that process would be (hella brain fog today so I hope this makes sense lol)

For G2 do you mean G23? Because i saw a page where in the description of the jewelry there was: "material: G23 titanium (astm F136)" and idk if they are reputable 😅
@Lynn_Loheide
@Lynn_Loheide 4 ай бұрын
I generally mean G2 in this video but some clarification: G23 just describes the chemical composition of the titanium alloy. the technical standard (such as ASTM F136) describes both the chemical composition and manufacturing requirements for use in surgical implants (and thus the implant-grade designation). most implant-grade titanium jewelry is G23, but most G23 is not implant grade due to the manufacturing requirements.

Hii, i have a question about having piercings and needing to do scans and/or surgery and such. What is the best and safest thing to do with our piercings? I got my bridge done about a month and a half ago, it’s my first piercing and it seems to be healing well but i keep thinking what i’m going to do if god forbid i have to go to the hospital for anything🙈 Especially for bridge i heard that the holes close up super fast..i do have titanium jewelry but idk which type actually, though i’m guessing it’s probably not the best one you mentioned. Thanks in advance!
