I think you are unable to export clothes to Britain, because they didn't have any active trade centers. They had no ports for months, so almost all of the population reverted back to peasants and nobody was employed in the trade centers anymore, which is why the projected amount of trade became zero.
@mevancfc

It's probably a bug. In my Aceh save the Russians deleted their ports, crashing my exports. So I went on to take a treaty port in Arkhangelsk but no trade could happen with same pop up message. I checked on their market's trade routes and there's a lot of overland trade happening between them and the Chinese & also Persians, so there must be quite a number of trade centers in their country.

That tends to happen when you overthrow the government and put nothing of worth in its place, and have a military that isn’t anything worth speaking of. Eventually they were integrated into the republican army and this stopped being a major issue.

To be clear, it was specifically Command Economy/subsidizing everything that I had problems with, not Worker Co-ops. Co-ops are busted. They boost SoL like crazy, and even in an economy that doesn't run on subsidies having a decent growth plan and/or a cash cow industry keeps them flush with cash, creating a loyal population and a strong consumer market. Slight employment adjustments in a few unproductive industries don't really produce that many radicals when the Party is strong and the overall economy is booming. And the way co-ops funnel money to the workers keeps the Party strong. Getting active trade going instead of being a pariah still works towards ensuring that your economy has extensive resource and consumption bases to work with. I also find it somewhat facetious to say "OK, we don't have oil" and then go all-in on Rubber, the other seriously limited resource that you need to have special lands to produce (even though said lands can be gained "more easily" with colonization). It ignores the point about the limits on "making inputs cheap", which is needed to keep the subsidy stress low. This is a great showcase of "you don't need to have all the resources or consumption if you can tap them externally", but it only postpones the end state of resource exhaustion, especially in the current state of the game with no way of building up foreign extraction capacities. To clarify, my current save that inspired the original comment is in a "suffering from success" stage where the GDP of Japan-with-colonies is 5B (3 of my states each have higher GDP than the next country) and average SoL is over 30, but PMs are pretty much maxed out, rubber is stretched thin even with worldwide imports simply to keep up with the domestic consumption of Luxury Clothes (and I'm nowhere near able to export all the cheap normal clothes while still having massive profits), and the wages have spiralled out of control to the point where even with favorably imbalanced inputs only generous subsidies can keep the energy industry afloat. The GDP dipped badly once I adopted Worker Protections before I defunded the institution (even though I have maxed out welfare, so the pop income didn't even change). The wage share explosion also means that Graduated Taxation would actually reduce my government income, because a lot of money got moved out of dividends into wages despite most pops being owners.

Sadly the AIs tend to delete all of their ports pretty frequently. A huge hit to their market seems to do the trick pretty often. I've been able to replicate Great Britain nuking their ports three times now, every time by waiting for them to turn EIC into a puppet and then doing transfer subject on them. Most recently, it was in a Russia game where I then proceeded to just watch as they all starved to death on their island and their dominions and puppets all started wasting away. The fun, if a bit gamey, part is that they quickly lose great power status and you can just swoop in to puppet them and also inherit all of their remaining puppets/dominions. If you don't want every AI to just start crapping the bed half a century in, I recommend Anbeeld's AI mod (Anbeeld's Revision of AI). With it, you can expect the likes of Britain and France to hit 1B GDP in the late game if the player doesn't *intervene* as players have a habit of doing. The upside is competent AIs that you can actually trade with and the downside is that the lategame slowdown hits a lot more early. I just toggle it on when i want an actual game and toggle it off when I want to be a bully or go for a lategame achievement. Bonus points: the mod is achievement compatible. Come to think of it, I would love to see a video or two featuring Anbeeld's mod, maybe spectator games and taking some deep dives in and tagging around to see exactly what it causes the AIs to do differently from vanilla.

Something important about command economy is the nature of taxes and subsidies. Normally in a command economy, all profits go to the government and all wages are paid by the government, so there is no point in taxation- the government would just be paying itself it's own money. In Vic3 however, subsidies are just 'whatever amount of money x building needs to max employment' so highly profitable buildings don't take up subsidies. So if a building is 50% subsidized, that means 50% of taxes it pays aren't real income for you. This is why graduated taxation is so important for a command economy. Dividend payments are dependent upon profitability, with more profitable businesses paying more of their revenue in the form of dividends. Conversely, less profitable buildings pay more of their revenue in wages. Since profitable buildings don't need subsidies, this means that combining graduated taxation with command economy ensures a larger portion of taxes you are paid are real income. It also helps ensure a greater degree of wealth distribution. Interestingly, this is also why graduated taxation is bad for Laissez-fair economies, as dividends taxes cut directly into the money capitalists would put in the investment pool anyway. Better that the tax burden be mostly on the poor and middle-class.
@ruukinen
@ruukinen Жыл бұрын
You'd still rather control that money yourself in the game so graduated taxation is still better as long as it makes more money i.e. you have high dividends happening.

In OPB's example of his textile mill, he could keep building up the mill to produce more clothing so the profit margin goes down. Given that hes on worker coops this would negatively affect the SOL of the pops in the factory a little depending on how much of their income is from the profits of the factory or their base wages. If he were not on worker coops then reducing the profit margin changes the demand ratio slightly but should ultimately cause an increase in general SOL.

Is there a specific mechanic that creates blocs of ideologically similar governments? Every game I play or watch, groups of communist/liberal/monarchic countries emerge from geographically-close nations. This seems pretty consistent but I can’t figure out what exactly causes this.
@woomod2445

There's actually some pretty major diplomatic bonuses for having similar governing principles/distribution of power laws. So the local big boy can drag the smaller ones to keep their relations close, or if a lot of smaller nations change it's in the big boys interest to swap to fit their sphere.

When countries get the Springtime of the people's journal entry (for liberalism) or another one for socialist (sorry i don't remember the name), they get a bunch of events that basically spreads radicalism to their neighbors. And I guess that happened in your games, which is really cool.

Huh, I wonder what is causing the port deletion, v. odd. Also I imagine they could struggle to make a proper fix to how OP it is because a lot of the problems that came with socialistic economies was large amounts of opposition diplomatically and also internally, the former contributing a fair amount to the latter as well as contributing to corruption etc. So like a good chunk of the disadvantage was with most of your neighbours and certainly the other powerful nations disliking you and funding your enemies, internally and externally, to the point where the advantages were evened out. I'd imagine that would require a larger rework than what they could easily do, as I feel it is a small flaw in the interest group system essentially flooded open by the sheer industrial potential of the workers. Though that said, I feel it could become much more balanced to tweak numbers, so trade and relations with non council republics is harder, and some tweaks to the numbers of the buildings themselves to make it so it's less insane. Maybe also a temporary penalty to credit limit due to lack of bourgeoise. I feel a decent chunk of the reason why it's so OP is the fact that essentially you can happily take advantage of all it's strengths with little worry, plowing forward towards a more prosperous future with little regard for stability. Which then realistically would again open yourself up to foreign undermining or invasion, or for it all to come crashing down - the last one could still happen though.

victoria actually got that anarchism is just socialism/communism as its defined by its terminology and NOT by the scammers who co-opted it and completely obscured the meaning. The game also exposes that anarchism is radical democracy thus has no classes and no authoritarianism, thus proving that it is the opposite of all the common known systems like monarchy, fascism, capitalism, leninism which in reality are similiar to each other regarding parasitic autocracy schemes.

Government: Alright then, let's dissolve peacefully and go straight into the happy anarchist future. Anarchists: THERE WILL BE BLOOD!!! For the glory of Anarchy we will terrorize the people! The people: No support for anarchy anymore. Me: Cancels the switch to anarchy. Anarchists: All is fine now, no reason to cause terror any longer. @@davidgreen3001 The downsides to multiculturalism would be purely political, such as lower power pops gaining more money and influence when your native pops would want to keep that power and influence to themselves. @@oracle372 Really? What about the higher crime rates? More dependents? People coming over and voting against the interests of the country because they want to allow more people in and vote for more welfare? @oracle372
@oracle372 Жыл бұрын
@@davidgreen3001 Higher crime rates and more dependents could be a problem, as for voting against a country’s interest, that is already simulated in them gaining more clout and thus more political power, which they can use to enforce their own ideologies. As for public healthcare being less efficient than private healthcare, that is debatable and depends on the goal. Private healthcare’s main problem is that they operate as a business primarily, which can lead to people who need treatment being kicked out to allow for people who are willing or able to pay more.

Rojava, Zapatistas, Pre-Marxist communism, and of course various communities who live completely outside the influence of their State for whatever reason (lack of State power, civil unrest, etc.) Communism works, but no state is communist because communism (political definition, not "lol Soviet Union") necessitates the lack of a state. Even barring *all* those counter-examples and "end of history" bias. To paraphrase Fidel Castro: People talk about the failure of socialism in China and Russia.
