You forgot to mention one plot detail. All the characters are not actual teenagers. Most of them are adults that plugged into Mobius to leave out an idolized high school life.

Idk why no one talks about the Character Stories. There are some amazing stories with relatable struggles that I've never really seen featured in games before. THAT is the best part of the game, it really makes you feel for the characters. The overarching story is pretty average but I feel like this game is more character focused. The sequel is gonna fix a lot of the issues I had with the game, so I'm excited for it!

The Switch version isn’t too bad. Sure the graphics drop noticeably when in handheld but it still plays well and the game works and looks perfectly in tv mode

Thanks for your thoughts, like you i saw it and been curious about the game. It looked interesting but I am always careful around JRPGS that center around school. (Kinda getting tired of that troupe since thats been the go to for many JRPGs since Persona 3) Ill give it some thought and probably pick it up on pc during one of steams many sales.

It's a bit different - as is the battle system - but I don't think that makes it a bad game. Overall, I do like Caligula (even if my time is currently preoccupied with Mary Skelter and Trails lol)

There is just one problem that is kinda nit picky but i still notice it and that is no lip movement when characters are talking, like i wouldnt have mind no lip movement on the 3d models but the 2d art could have had a little lip movement and a bit more expression, that would have made the game more immersive for me (especially for a game like this).............

I don't what it is, but for some reason Papiko has a lot of spots where if I enter battle, the game lags considerably, and I'm on PS4.

And this is why I wait for a remake/port of a game, I’d rather get that than buy a Vita that’s expensive and games that probably went up in price due to it being discontinued. This along with Trails of Cold Steel and other Vita to PS4 ports are on my radar, but I’m more focused on games like RE 2, DMC V, Sekiro & Code Vein (I like action, what else can I say?) Oh, and God Eater. That looks way better on PS4 than on Vita.

I agree the combat system was interesting, but depends a bit too much on luck to my liking, for a game based on linked attacks. I would have prefered either a fixed hit ratio on skills, or no hit ratio at all. And I agree too, the surface plot isn't excellent at all, kind of rip-off Matrix with Japanese high schoolers. However, I grew fond of characters' writing, how actual and realistic their traumas can be. The game mechanics have also a lot of meaning behind the "Caligula effect" notion, without explaining it too much. For me, it's a game full of potential on every aspect that are never truly explored, but what made it shining, what I want to see more in modern games, was definitely its writing.

Started on normal, but went to hard, it's kinda the reverse of say xenoblade chronicles or octopath, you can defeat most enimes or digiheads as their known that are 5 level's higher than you or so

Also, I wish people would stop the Persona jokes/comparing - not every school JRPG is Persona nor should it have to be lol (especially since a lot of the compared games are multi-platform and all the main Persona games are still exclusives so that's a point negative to them. Especially games like P4G, now exclusive to an officially dead handheld. That's lovely, isn't it?) Oh well, they ported Catherine to PC so there *may* be hope... who am I kidding? lol .... I'd love P4G on PC though, would finally be able to play since I only played the original on my PS2 and didn't want to waste money I didn't have on a Vita, either (especially now that it's dead) ^^

The worst thing about this game would be difficulty. Honestly, the combat is enjoyable but the bosses are so easy (even I am on hard mode). Sometimes it takes 1 turn and wah la the boss dead. Also the dungeons are pretty boring (wish there are quizzical mechanics for players to solve in order to move forward). Had potential but haven't executed that well. well 6.5-7 / 10 for me

Good vid. I wasn't a huge fan but you hit some of my biggest issues. Difficulty is definitely the weakest area here, and where I play all games on normal for the purpose of review, it made it a bit of a slog. Just held "A" in every battle. Easily killed people 30lvls over me without paying attention, even if it was just a 1 on 1 battle. Hell, I beat the final boss that way. Balance could use A LOT of work. Cast is good though, even if it is bloated to hell.

The sound effects are missing from the game. It feels plain. You don't hear any footsteps or anything. Just dialog, and music, it feels a bit off.

I got it on the VITA way back. The battle system for the rerelease has been really dumbed down. Combos and breaks in the original are much more important and there are many more skills for each character that come into play. It is fun at first, but gets pretty draining after a while. I feel like the balance for combat is somewhere between the two. Still, one trauma instead of two for those 300 students is far better. :p

Wait for a sale. There are some good ideas here..but execution is off. The main cast isn't bad but the side content is seriously mediocre and not interesting. At all. Social links in persona are some of the best part..not here. Battles are EASY. Hold X..win. If they survive the first salvo they won't the second 90% of the time.

The "repetitiveness" is a huge bane to the game, plus too much enemies on the way.....It's been very hard for me to get back into. I work 50+ hours the only time I can play this game is weekends, so I often think....Is it worth it to spend my weekend playing a game where I repeat the same enemies over and over?

The game had a lot of cool concepts but EXTREMELY lazy execution. There's no real character animation, the social links advance at a glacial pace with barely any development, the fights are way too easy, too much generic jpop, etc. I do live the 2d character art and the focus on psychology and character interactions. The director says he wants the to be a franchise so I hope he listens well to the criticism.

But I guess some people prefer portability over performance and such so... *shrug* ... for example, Mary Skelter. I have far less problems with the game on PC than I heard a guy whose LP I watched say he had on the Vita (some game mechanics during dungeon crawling feel easier to do on the keyboard, imo)

It’s not worth it. I love the idea, music, and aesthetic. However, I CANNOT recommend this game at all. Especially with so many other better rpg games out there. If you haven’t played Persona 5? Get that. I remember beating the final boss without being hit once on normal. Have fun running around most enemies. Super mediocre execution almost all around. But hey, nothing wrong with some vanilla cake. :)

Aura Nizharu Aura Nizharu I simply found the game less fun to get through than Persona 5 simply due to the gameplay, especially in the later portions. I understand the difference in story approaches as well and I can understand that as a matter of taste. Unfortunately I still have an issue with recommending the game to my friends even when I love the other aspects of the game, like characters and music. Maybe it’ll be better on the second playthrough, but I’m moving on in my backlog. While I’m glad I picked it up, I don’t find that the balancing of gameplay to dungeons to be worth it. As satisfying as it is to pull off a combo between party members in a boss fight, it isn’t worth navigating the mediocre dungeon design. At least I never found a need to grind, so it is much faster and easier to get through. If the normal difficulty of a game leaves me dissatisfied/feeling easy, then I think it needs some more tuning. I spent more time running around a map then bothering with combat. Plus I never felt a need to deal with that weird social tree thing with NPC they stuffed in. All of this is my personal taste. I got plenty of enjoyment out of it, but once again, I can’t say I can recommend it. If you can, great! For me, I’ll just have to get back to knocking off some of these Dragon Quest games off my backlog.
