But not keep it. She must go down that dragon and eat, sleep, etc. someday. Without an army, you can only fly around, burn things, and then hope nobody is angry enough to poison your breakfast. Aegon did have an army. Didn't his bastard brother Oerys Baratheon lead it or so?

@@jinpachibobochan3532 The army Aegon had was primarily a patchwork of conscripted levies from newly conquered territories that was not only fewer in number but also far less skilled and devoted to their liege then Dany’s Unsullied and Dothraki. Additionally unlike Aegon, Dany would have the support of Dorne’s army, as well as a number of smaller opportunistic lords who see a chance to gain power. Plus there’s plenty of marriage options for Dany out there to get even more support. And all of that aside, dragons are essentially nuclear weapons that can decimate an entire holdfast so she’d surely get supporters out of awe or fear

I feel like Drogon, if he lives, will be the largest dragon ever. Drogon is already quite a bit larger than most dragons have been, and he is only a few years old.

In fact, it has not been proven that Drogon has a better genetics than his brother's. Since Rhaegal and Viseris have been chained in Mereen for almost 2 years, in an initial period of development. We know what happens to chained dragons ... they just do not grow. Either way, dragons are dying easy in Season 8.

Idk, the dragons of the Valyrian Freehold must have been the biggest. Dany didn't even know how to awaken her dragon eggs, but these old Valyrian sorcerers probably used some big sophisticated rituals to ensure their dragons become big and strong. The bigger your dragon, the more say you have, etc. And the Targaryen family was one of the weakest/less important. They probably didn't own the biggest dragons, not even with Balerion, or their importance would have been greater. I mean, they didn't even have Valyrian steel armor! heh. Anyways, and the old Valyrians most likely knew how to rear big and strong dragons by giving them special food, training, etc. Dragons were their main weapon, so I'm quite sure they knew how to make them big, bad, and deadly.

you don't realize how much this comment means to me. this video was really difficult to put together. i literally started from scratch about 6 times iirc bc the scaling in the episode didnt seem consistent to me. sometimes he appeared to have a 130 foot wingspan, and others closer to 200 feet the final product took around 12 hours. but i technically spent 42 hours from start to finish. i wish i had made up my mind sooner lol i hope i didnt butcher it. i tried really hard to do this video justice :-/

Armours made from Valerian Steel. because During the episode "Hard home", when Jon was recruiting the wildlings, we see that normal steel swords will not work to that White walker's spear. It will just turn into shattered ice. But when Jon uses Long Claw, it is able to touch it. So here is the deal. If any of those two dragons would wear armours made from Valerian steel, The Night's King spear will just bounce off. Not only that Valerian steel is a tough material. I am sure that the Long Crossbow of Cersei will also bounce off.

Consider this as well: We only have Balerion's skull to work with. As a creature gets older, the head gets smaller in comparison with the body. This is true for almost all vertebrates. So even if the skull was only 20% larger, the body could be as much as 25-30% larger.

I was refering to her having a hot temper wirh tyrion But in wasn't clear so people assumed I was calling her clinichally insane for fighting with dragons and they tooK offense to it lol To each their own I guess. Dislikes don't hurt a video as far as the youtube algorithms so I dnt care. The only affect is if someone doesn't click on it after seeing the dislikes

That would be physically impossible. Dragons never stop growing, even the ones contained in the Dragonpit who were much smaller due to their being chained up and confined in a small space. Balerion the Black Dread was hundreds of years old. Drogon is about 3-4 if you use show time, about 2 in book time. It would be impossible for him to be as big given that dragons cannot stop growing.

but btw, Balerion's description in the books is way bigger than the skull in the show, bcz Balerion's teeth are as long as swords. by that description alone, Balerion is too big to be visualized.

drogon, rheagal and viserion are likely from a much older line of dragons then balerion, and possibly the offspring off wild dragons, which grew much bigger then the ones captured and tamed by the valyrian freehold, which grew smaller overtime, until the last dragons were no bigger then a small dog, these fozzilized eggs could have been a thousand years old or more, this could be a why dany's dragons grow this fast

They’re dreamfyres children. Balerion and his sisters are original dragons from the freehold. Those drafons were huge pre doom. Balerion at that time was not the biggest there were dragons in the freehold larger than balerion

+The Lady Olenna Tyrell It doesn't really matter if its a story that's already happened 200 years ago because it's a story all the same and it's being told and to show that in the cliché Hollywood way by returning to present like they did in Deathly Hallows would be too cheap. And by all the parallels between this and the past of westeros this is infact the making of history itself. The way we wonder about Aegons Conquest and Roberts Rebellion this will be the same and as grand and equally epic. And maybe like everyone thought that all the Targareyns died this time everyone will think Lannisters are extinct but somehow they will survive.

Balerion was SO enormous that his shadow could swallow cities whole just from flying over, Drogon is no comparison to that.

The title is dumb. How should drogon be as big as Balerion. Drogon is 6 maybe 7, Balerion was 200… surely you can’t compare them. But put them at the same age than drogon will be way bigger than Balerion.

Balerion the Black Dread was the largest dragon ever seen. I wish Drogon would get larger but I highly doubt it. Sadly the show differs in great detail from the books at times.

I think that drogon will outgrow him easily. If I counted correctly and drogon will grow as he did, he will have the size of balerion with around 30. he was like 6/7 in the show and was already huge. If he continue to grow like that, and considering he’s gonna die in the same age like Balerion Did he will probably be 6x the size of Balerion .. And don’t forgot that he is now free. Dragons who are living free where always bigger than tamed or chained up dragons. Look at viserion and rhaegal

im more used to the imperial system. but on my "tallest characters" video, i got a lot of flack for not using the metric system, which most of the world uses. and on the first dragon size video from earlier this summer, people suggested that i use a soccer field instead of an american football field so this one was for non-americans. an Emilia Clark is part of the matric system, right? (all of this messge was to set up that punch line lol... clearly, its been a long few days if thats funniest i can be lol) jokes aside tho, i needed a reference point. thought about using the spear, but decided to roll with "Danys" =)

1:40 - 1:50 This method of measuring Drogon's increase in size won't work, as the dragons get bigger, their wingspan will get bigger in proportion to the rest of the body. I'm not sure that the GOT creators take this into account, but by looking at Drogon at birth and now, six years later, I think they do. Which means that you can't take one measurement of say, neck length, and then increase wingspan linearly relative to the increase in neck length. This is due to the Square-Cube law. As he grows his mas will proportionally increase to his surface area, meaning he will need proportionally bigger wings to make up for it. The wings will be bigger, perhaps his length will have to be longer too, or more specifically his tail. I think this proportional increase in tail length will be needed to ensure stability as his mas proportionally increases relative to tail length.

Good breakdown bridge, I think most people know Drogon isn't close yet, but its nice to stop the spread of misinformation. I don't think Drogon will reach Balerion size, as I think all her dragons are gonna die, its just a matter of time.

+Saber0003 I with ya on all accounts. Even if he grew at constant rate (and this analysis is fairly accurate which is a big if), he would have to grow another 6 years or so. Doubtful the story goes that long even if he lives. And like you, I sadly think he'll die anyway :-/

Yeah, that bolt to Balerion's skull was like the desecration of a holy relic in my mind. Made me hate Cersei even more, not knowing that was possible. Cercei's my sinister's, err, sister's favorite character I learned not long ago. I'm her only brother so I can't puzzle out if she wants to fuck me or thinks I'm gonna strangle her. this one took 42 hours because i had to keep starting from scratch (dany and drogon scaling was not really consistent in the episode. sometimes his wingspan seemed about 130 feet, and sometimes closer to 200 feet) and i have no clue how to use my editing software properly, so whenever i changed my opinion, all my animations and scaling would get so messed up (which is why i didnt end up re-recording to remove the echo. im burnt out. 12 hours tuesday. 15 yesterday, and another 15 today...although the last hour has just been rewatching and second guessing... and afraid to hit "publish" lol. so i guess 14 today). i hope people enjoy this tho. its been the most popular request by far ever since episode 2. but i was waiting to get some good data of drogon. i hope i didnt let people down :-/

I noticed tht as well sonce I watched the scene frame by frame. The first time I thought it was a complete split. But I went back and some of the branches do get pushed down towards the edge of the tree. But his wing extends past where the trunk of the tree is. so his wing definitely just glides right through the thick of the tree lol Thats still my favorite shot tho bc of the water :)

It looks like two separate trees, with his wing passing over the 2nd (closer) tree, pushing the branches down. It's easier to notice when they first show on screen, since the difference in distance makes them move at different speeds from the focus of the camera.

Drogon is a few years old dragon, bigger than Rhaegal and Viserion, due to his freedom, while those two were captured. Balerion on the other hand was almost 200 years old when he died. It is quite impossible for a dragon young as Drogon to achieve such a size yet. Comparing them is at least ridiculous. I know this is a show/fantasy tale, but there is a pattern how they grow (mentioned in the books and even in the show few times).

@@siricharan90 I would say yes. He is now free, Balerion was not. And cannibal (a free living dragon on dragonstone on the time where Balerion lived) is named to be nearly as big as him but was quite younger. So if drogon is going to grow like he did, he will outgrow Balerion without any problem. If he continues to grow like he did he will be probably 6x as big as Balerion was with 200 years. Drogon is 6/7 in the show and already 22% of Balerions size. So most likely with 30 he will have the size of Balerion.

From pre-doom. Those dragons were hatched by valerian magic whoch makes them huge. Drogon does not have valerian magic. Just blood magic. He will grow bog. But not as bog as balerion

Imagine Balerion in his prime. His skull seemed more brittle - and it was cracked - than a living dragon's as it was quite old, and Drogon demonstrated when he took a shot from the ballista that his scales and muscle provided more armour. If his whole body was as weak as Balerion's skull is now that bolt probably would have gone in so deep we couldn't even see it. So imagine Balerion, alive, at his full size. Imagine trying to fight that. Even against a ballista shot like that, he really would be invincible. It might pierce his scales, but there'd be those and so much muscle to get through that they probably wouldn't ever hit bone or vital organs. All they'd do is piss him off. Even a headshot probably wouldn't have killed him then, unless maybe a shot in the eye. A headshot would probably drive him away though. It'd be like us having a crossbow bolt through our jaw or halfway through the outer layer of our skull.

Not sure a dragon could be fully armoured up and still fly, unless it was valyrian steel, and even then they'd still be significantly slower. And with the dragons still growing, and presumably will be for a hundred years or so, crafting armour would be extremely expensive. Valyrian steel dragon armour that you may have to make more than once would cost an extreme amount and may not be worth it.

I wonder if Balerion will be in the upcoming prequel series. After all, Viserys Targaryen will be in it, and according to his biography, Viserys rode Balerion for around a year before his death. Would be pretty sweet to see the largest dragon ever, even if he's old and dying.
