In today’s video we’re doing sword DPS testing, mainly with Falling Guillotine comparing it to other swords as well as more popular meta DPS options like Edge Transit and Apex Predator!

You guys seem to like the live testing videos so here we are again doing Swords this time! Honestly I was actually quite surprised and wasn’t expecting them to perform as well as they did, especially the new Wave Frame Sword from the Salvation’s Edge raid. The combination of the Expanding Abyss and Argent Blade Artifact perks actually makes Falling Guillotine a very competitive DPS option for bosses that can be sworded like the new Herald of Finality. Other options were shining too like the new Wave Frame Sword putting out very respectable numbers on par with Guillotine without the need for Expanding Abyss, definitely not what I was expecting. The Lament is still very good and Heartshadow also surprised me, since with Expanding Abyss only the Weaken effect gets buffed to 25% up from 15%, which is actually pretty nice since it basically negates the need for a Tractor user, though you do burn through your ammo very fast unfortunately. Compared to other options the raid sword, Lament and Guillotine all out-damage Grenade Launchers and Rockets by about 300-500k damage which is actually pretty nice and I’m glad swords now have a moment to shine, it’s been a while since they were this good. i feel like whirlwind blade is actually better than bait and switch but only if you're using ergo sum. the reason is cause the wolfpack rounds also give a stack of whirlwind blade so you're getting to max stacks way quicker and whirlwind at max stacks is the same damage bonus as bait and switch but you don't need to stop to reproc it

The rockets and grenade launchers had a lot more time left to do more damage from other sources when the swords took the entire damage phase.

I would love to actually see a video showing swords with full rotations (eg. using nova/strand super and using izanagis or witherhoard) versus edge transit and apex with their full rotations using the same supers and special weapons.

With the nerfs to Lament and Well of Radiance i would recommend everyone to not sleep on Attrition Orbs in a damage phase scenario with swords for survivability.

If it was Solar Surge, wouldn’t Apex’s damage amount to around 2.1 mil without? Also doesn’t seem like Wolfpack Rounds are spawning on aggressive frame swords RIP.

Worth mentioning that rockets falloff more when you're manually reloading than if you manual load gls both gls and rockets are more about the dps tho not total dmg

@@soraneptune4178it’s also worth important to realize that rockets are used much more optimally in a rotation, rather than just dumping your whole reserves with manual reloads

@@JuanSanchez-ig2eb yes we are basically touching on the same point. I am just mentioning that the rl numbers are more skewed than gls. As with gls with the env bait roll you're only normally doing 1 reload anyways which means dodging or ic dashing or whatever else is only saving you 1 reload time. Whereas rockets needs anywhere from 7 to less reloads depending on how you're reloading. (manual reloading is effectively reducing the number of reloads by half as it loads 2 rockets at the same time effectively due to recon, but this is still slower as the alternative is just to rely on instaload methods + recon whilst being able to fire other guns and abilities.)

Lament afaik is not buffed overall (discounting seasonal mods), the gun option comparisons were a bit silly as the whole point of using these guns is that you can dump them fast and combine them with other exotic or legendary burst options, such as the new sniper with apex and something like izi nessa edge or suprem still edge (still is so good that is still better than anything else basically even with no surges lol). As far a lament itself goes, it got a rev heavy dmg nerf that increases the more banshee stacks you have (so most nerfed at x9) this likely changes the optimal combo routes. Will need someone to do some more in depth testing for that though. guillotine is more recommendable than lament as you can still use burst exotics like horseman or still hunt to start your dps phase, but obviously they are different elements and if bungie keeps the surge changes and - 5 all raids then they aren't really competing with each other unless 1 is more than 25% better than the other.

I'm fairly certain wolfpack rounds doesn't work with exotic swords. You don't appear to be spawning them in your footage, and I don't get them in my own testing either.

I think a couple specific ones do, but not the actually good/interesting ones like Lament and Heartshadow. Specifically I've heard of it happening on Worldline, but I could also have been lied to about that, as I haven't tried myself. Likely it's not intended, anyway.

Which is weid because the wolfpack ergo sum does get them, after a heavy every light spams a rocket, i would love to see the dmg test with a void wolfpack ergo and guillotine with expanding abyss.

You are wrong. It works with some exotic swords. It works with itself and other people’s ergo sums which is an exotic sword.

for future testing purposes, i would recommend you use song of flame with speakers as that will basically be a mobile well lol only annoying thing is the scorch with kinetic and solar weapons, but yeah.. Another note: Aggressive frames (crown splitter and throne cleaver) do NOT gain wolfpack rounds.

Situational as hell. Yes its the highest but not everything can proc surrounded. Herald is the main boss everyone is using swords for atm and you cant get surrounded until final stand.

Bequest only works well with surrounded. With Crota you can proc surrounded easily but not in the other fight where swords are in the meta with Herald of Finality.

I just want to say I posted a comment this week in one of your videos asking about lament and swords and the new changes and now there is a video. I don’t know if you saw that post but thank you either way. Unsure if this is the correct lament combo, though after the changes, I think you have to do more light attacks before the heavy because you don’t want max stacks as fast after the strangest nerf of all time

12:04 I have been waiting for a DPS test like this! Although the only surefire way I found to get the most reliable numbers was using a Divinity Bubble because this boss is hard to crit for the full Microcosm mag/reserves without the Div bubble. Edit: In the one quick test I did with Song of Flame (on Solar with Ember of Ashes), a Healing Rift, Speaker's Healing Turret and Divinity (no other buffs or debuffs) i was able to use all my ammo and do about 1.6-1.7m (Div dude died once because I wasn't on Well and he was on a Hunter 😅)

I wish you tested argent blade vs weapon surge mods, since they both boost damage and consume armor charges, I wonder which is the better pick.

Well ideally you would use both as they stack. But for comparisons sake I'm pretty sure surges are better. x3 surges provide a 22% damage buff and assuming you're using Time Dilation each armour charge will last for 15 seconds. Argent Blade provides a 15% damage buff and consumes an armour charge every 5~ seconds giving it a much shorter up time. But like I said, they stack, so always use both and potentially even increase your max armour charge slots.

Aside from having to get the healing from a separate source, is there any difference in the damage buff granted by Song of Flame as well as the damage resistance? Becoming increasingly curious if Song of Flame inside of a Healing Rift with a Speaker's Sight Healing Turret is better than standing in a Well of Radiance with how they gutted the damage resistance it gives.

Just for future, if you’re actually looking at dps it would be good to compare how long it’s taking. First heavy test was way, way faster and had more damage than lights. While the damage was super close, you’d have more time for more damage.

You should try out ergo sum perfect fifth caster frame with ashes fragment and just use heavy attacks. Extremely slept on rn and people will slowly find out how strong it is.

too much is missing from these tests. Surges weren't accounted for on a few, no proper rotations for edge transit or apex, transcendence boosts sword regen so you can spam heavy attacks, no lightweight swords, only adding banner to one test when it can apply to all, and like a million other ergo sum combinations

Was this with or without 3 lucent blades? Tbh there are very few bosses that just let players lay in to them without there being incoming damage. Honestly I think Nightmare Caiatl is about the only sword boss that will really let you bully her without the need for much defense.

The slammer with cold steel can freeze and shatter with one heavy if you have Wolfpack. Also for relentless strikes you gain one ammo every 2 light swings and one ammo every power swing

So if you actually procc chaos reshaped before hand, i.e. shoot enemies until boss phase, then sommun bonum beats everything??? Ofc with edge transit you could also fire a few rapid fire sniper/fusion/shotgun mags to supplement DMG and beat out the swords tho.

I think the title is a bit Misleading as Swords definitely dont have the best damage per *second*, but they definitely have competitive dps while still having some of the highest Total Damage

@@frogsta360 the damage at the end is higher yes, but you have to take into consideration the time it took to do the damage. For the swords it took the full 30 seconds, for the GL and RL, it did not. Damage Per Second is the keywords. If you had infinite ammo on all 3 of the weapons over the 30 second timespan, the Rockets and the Grenade Launchers would easily have higher numbers. Swords are really good for Longer Damage phases, but Rockets and GL's are still the Kings of Fast Damage.

@@AlCapwndYou05 oh yeah of course. I did the math the GLs would hit 3.75m if they had the ammo in that case. Rockets didn't take surge into account so roughly 3m but they're better in rotations anyway in general

when i saw this video pop up i really hoped you would test caster frames, if possible please test them after the changes their damage is really good the heavy attack does 5k less damage than vortex but uses 2 less ammo and charges back faster u can do LLH from my testing surrounded caster frame is matching Guillotine with double damage perks

Vorpal Whirlwind is the roll I use mostly. If there is surrounded available I use Frenzy+Surrounded.

You can try prismatic subclass with thr fragment that lets you reload automatically while the boss is debuffed/suppressed. Two tailed fox is good for that. I dont know the damage numbers though.

i did a sample full damage phase with two tailed, facet of command, and Hazardous Propulsion here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q5x8rKaAytCoo4k.htmlsi=X3frYJbRhoRcfDuf got about 2.1 million. I think I could have done better, but while it may do less then some rockets its utility is very nice with suppression , ignitions, and jolts basically sunlocking the boss, and never reloading feels very good. Plus thanks to suppression any boss that can be suppressed(mostly minibosses), basically are stopped in their tracks for ages and free kills

The problem with swords is. When a boss is sword able that means they are also melee-able. Specifically strand grapple melee. Now that hunters have access to synthos as well its wild. But obviously not every boss has adds to proc synthos.

They're better... if the dmg phase is like 15 minutes long lol. The dmg ceiling is higher due to ammo, but the DPS is way worse than GL and RL.

You should start trying the solar weapons with Song of Flame active for the extra scorch/ignition damage.

I was testing swords on the first warlords ruin boss. I could get 1.7-1.8mil solo with only one totem for time, the problem is the sword has zero ammo. So its dogwater solo, but in a team with heavy generation its pretty nice

I suspect what you want to do is run an aggressive frame ergo with wolfpack and trance - big boy slam, swap to other sword, then swap back to reproc. pretty sure swords build energy while sheathed now soyou can just whip it out for the big aggressive trance slam for burst in the rotation. idk, it's still a sword, shit's weird, may or may not work

Light spam is ammo efficient and using heavy attacks on guillotine makes a difference but most of the times youd run out of ammo. Honestly, what surprised me was lament since I had bias it wouldve been bad since it was nerfed (didnt read the specifics on what it was nerfed on). Lament has both good dps and ammo efficiency i guess

Everybody knows that and izi gl swapping is way better than swords are most of the time a simple izi gl apex necrotic strand rotation does 3.4 mil in 22 secs without debuffs

You see lament there at 3 million. I don’t believe it is being buffed by wolfpacks so that means lament, if you can’t afford to have ergo sum in your special slot, is still a great solo player choice.

Falling has a combination of perks that'll make its damage sky rocket, you just need to have the boss to sit Fuc*ing still !

I wish they would revert the Cold Steel change to Slammer, they really butchered that for no reason, getting a freeze and shatter on a single heavy swing was what made it viable

To my knowledge adaptive frame swords are the only swords where heavy attacks aren't damage loss over the entire ammo count. Falling Guillotine is only good because of frenzy + a 30% buff in 4th column. relentless whirlwind is still the goat combination on all adaptives bait and switch would also be alot of dmg loss because ur reprocing that for like 2 seconds

And yeah, you don't pronounce the Ls in French but it's perfectly acceptable to say the Ls in Guillotine in English. The French won't behead you for it Watch some French people trying to pronounce 'thoroughly' if you think we have it bad.

Ofc swords have better overall dmg but in the time you shot 9 rockets you could fired a few izi shots which would make rockets better or u could used bns casacde gl for even better results. So swords have better total dmg and gl/rockets better dps

Why do people do tractor when testing damage? I wanna see what the damage does without multiple debuffs from teammates.

I don't normally use Tractor, the reason I used it here was to take advantage of Expanding Abyss (because Guillotine is Void) and also kept it for other non-Void tests for consistency.

sword shouldve always had to deal that dmg but with no buffs, since theres actually a good enough amount of encounters where we can just snip bosses, except lament, revert heal nerf and nerf damage
