Love it when fans of other clubs start defending Maguire, saying he's not that bad, or "he's a quality player", just because on International duty he plays averagely. We know how he plays, as we have seen him play, week in and week out for the past 3 years. So, when we say he is so bad that even a second division footballer that plays in Romania would be better than him, we are not joking. He makes a lot of mistakes on the ball, is super super slow, can't handle a single second of pressure, is completely unaware of his surroundings on the pitch, etc. The only average thing on him are his long balls, and as we don't have anyone tall upfront, they are completely useless. We don't even need to put the price tag on him, even if he costed us 40, 30 or even 20 millions, he would still be terrible and we would blame him for the mistakes he'd make. I'm sure than in a more defensive minded team he will play averagely. In a club like Man United, as we are trying to start to play attracting attacking minded football, he has no space at all. No hard feelings for Maguire, I've criticized him, just not in the social media, as criticizing players just makes the thing worse. But looking at him saying he "had nothing to prove" showed me enough of him to know he doesn't give a f**k, so he can leave. But even he doesn't want to leave, saying "he''l try to fight his way up the team", when we all know he is the 6th option for Ten Hag and so he just wants to get payed at the end of the week. He needs to move on, both for the good of him and the club.

I find it really bizarre that Buvey can slag off players like Antony, Zinchenko, Cucurella etc for not meeting the expectation that their transfers generated but has a COMPLETE blind spot for Maguire. Has Maguire given him money or something? His performance level is nowhere near the level that any top 8 PL club requires.

It’s sad to see because somewhere between wearing and England kit and switching to a Man U kit it goes horribly wrong for Maguire, I’d take him at West Ham but if he doesn’t perform for us we also have to be ready to give him his marching orders, I still think there is a decent level CB in him though, just needs that confidence back and West Ham fans will be a little more forgiving.

i’m with buvey on this one , i definitely see him walking into most team . he’s a good center back who will provide a lot for most teams; maybe not the united, city , arsenal but definitely see him at villa or westham

Phil Jones is better than Maguire. What's Maguire's best attribute? He gets his head on the ball. But have you every actually watched his defensive headers? He doesn't actually make clearances. He heads the ball so that it loops up into the air and is still in the danger area. People mention his passing. But the quality and timing of his passes are terrible. He'll look up, see someone in space and then decide to take a few more touches. By the time he actually passes the ball, the player he's passing it to has an opposition player close by. Maguire's passing kills the momentum of the team. His spatial awareness is awful (as evidenced by the Sevilla game), he can't organise the defence and he's as self-deluded as John Terry.

I hope he moves and has a chance to play first team football. But make no mistake, he is not a good CB and if he moves it will be shown week in, week out.

Maguire in that RCB spot for Man Utd would be magnificent. flanked by Dalot/Wan Bissaka and Martinez. with Casemiro and Onana in front and behind him. that position with those players surrounding him hides his weaknesses and bring his strengths to the forefront. A shame that the perception around held even by some of his team mates may make a second chance for him at Man Utd impossible.

I'm convinced Buvey's just trolling on this. "He's never let England down" is the sort of thing people only say about a desperately bad player. It's like saying "well at least he gives it his best". Maguire at his peak just about makes it into a team fighting to gain a place in Europe. Maguire at United would struggle in a pub team. It's not about unrealistic expectations in terms of playing style, he was abysmal in a defensive style as well. It's that when you watch him it's like he is secretly trying to make United lose, but not make it too obvious. Any time he's in a position where he might be called upon to defend, he seems to move away from the position he thinks the ball might go. Any time he goes to make a tackle, he seems to deliberately make it in a way that makes it ineffective and/or easy for the other player to claim a foul. He de-motivates the rest of the team. United might genuinely be a better team with 10 men than with him on the pitch. At best, he's been trying to hide. At worst, he hates United for some reason and is actively trying to sink the ship. He has been that bad that it wouldn't surprise me. He needs to be removed far away from United for everyone's sanity. If I never again watch him play for a team I support, it will be too soon.

The wilful incompetence of Buvey is incredible. Yes Maguire isn't at fault for his transfer fee, or the strategy at United at the time of his purchase, however when there is a clear shift in strategy after he comes in, and he is unable to play in the new system then he needs to be moved on. Maguire doesn't get into any of the top 6 or 7 teams from last season because he is incapable to play on the halfway. He is great when he is playing on the counter and defending his box, but he is incapable to play in a team that controls possession. If he is so great, who does he come in for City? Maguire had an interview where he said "I'm the captain of Manchester United, and I have nothing to prove" he said this while away with England and he wasn't playing for United because he wasn't good enough. Bruno Fernandes was literally the most creative player in England last year, created more chances than KDB and Odegard. If United had an actual striker, who was willing to play and had some ability to score, Bruno would have ended the season comfortably with 20+ league assists.

I’m with Buvey and although I think most people will disagree with him I think he is highly underrated just because he’s played for a toxic club slightly above his level. Athleticism is such a massive part of football, CBS are getting smaller and more agile but he is so heavy footed, he's a great box defender though.

A word or 2 for @Buvey: Man City would not sign Maguire; you would not take him at City even for 20 mil. There's a reason City passed him over when United signed him and I'm sure price wasn't it. You say Maguire has never let down England, then never let down England when it mattered. Well, he's done both at United. And finally, let me leave you with this: the hallmark of an elite footballer is the ability to adapt to different tactical styles. Clearly, Maguire hasn't or can't.
