Just a suggestion: do a “Will it run?” for snow blowers. There’s one at your in-laws that hasn’t been started in years. Could be very useful this winter for all of us. Keep up the good work, well done!

I can relate to that I was almost always fixing leaks and small problems with my 86 chevy k20 custom deluxe long bed well used farm truck but it was still the most dependable truck I have ever owned..

Check the fuel tank sending unit and the box fuses going to the gauge cluster for the instrument panel to. If that doesn't fix it. Check out the wiring going into the gauge cluster really good to cause it could need A repair made to it somewhere.

a good way to fix the hot starter problem is to bypass the gm solinoid and put a ford solinoid on the firewall or inner fender

Yeah that is because the solenoid has a like u shape fork that slides forward when the starter solenoid is energized to crank the motor over,, and the reason why I just changed the entire starter, because with it dragging the parts store is like a solenoid is $21 . I said yeah but the starter has had issues for two years before I got the truck and it darn near completely killed the battery starting the truck, so I would guess the brushes are almost cooked in the starter so nope I am not fixing it and add the fact I would have to change the starter Bendix drive gear since I have to replace the flywheel since it has both chewed up and missing teeth ..so no new starter please.

I put a starter and a flywheel on the 86 chevy k20 truck when I had it because the starter was never aligned correctly so it grind and kept catching on the Bendix drive and the casing on the nose was slanted towards the frame instead of the block and it would cause the Bendix drive keep jumping back in the starter which chews up the flywheel teeth...

I had to replace the fusible links on both the 86 chevy k20 custom deluxe farm truck and the early 94 Chevy Z71 Silverado k1500 extended cab short bed truck at the bus bar on the Z71 and the junction bolts on the 86 chevy k20 and I just bought 7.5 amp fuse links and spliced them back in,, and the starter and alternator wiring on the 86 chevy k20 was horrendous...

Oh yay I thought I was the only one that did that with the battery cables when I traded for my truck it's battery cables were covered in mud, so I could not see what color they were and I put the battery in at night,, but I soon realized that both the cables after I cleaned up the mud they were Chevy orange yay.... anyways I ended up replacing the battery cables that battery I just put in the truck, the ignition control module and the alternator so I do not suggest hooking up the cables backwards lol

My daily is a 74 F100 and has been since about a year ago when I got it running and driving. I still work on it every time I got money and time since I got it. It’s still not done. I. Looking at a box of parts as I’m typing. I don’t have a shop and cold with snow and ice on the ground so nothing is happening anytime soon

Great job and Happy New Year. After the Fusible Link repair, were the other in-cab lights still kaput, along with the fuel gauge? Sounds like one repair uncovered a few more glitches.

The dash lights never worked. The fuel gauge could be something as simple as a stuck float. I have no idea when the last time the tank was filled. Was hoping it was electrical, but doesn’t appear to be related to the fusible link.

@@Xthreadgarage Wouldn't surprise me if there was some mouse-induced buggery that happened. Or a few other fusible link wires that decided to nope out. I'll check the C10 Workshop Manual for anything that would jump out at me.

We did walk down that road, but the issue ended up being bad remanned starters. Been running great for months now. No starter issues.

The orange paint on the '41 Ford truck has to go -- it is patently UGLY. I have never been a "patina" guy and for that particular truck, it simply does not work. Were It mine, I would want it to look like it might have when it was with the CCC. Katelyn should start looking for historical images that show what that truck originally would have looked like. In this area, there are hundreds of Catalpa trees that were planted by CCC men on the property lines of farmers. These men lived in tent camps on the outskirts of major cities or in state and national parks. As you drive the back roads around here you can see that many of them have survived. Since the truck has an extended frame, it was not a pickup. it was probably a stake bed truck or one that would have benches in the bed to transport workers from place to place, much like 6 X 6 cargo trucks were used by the Army during World War II. That truck is too nice to not do something serious with -- patina is not serious.

K8lynn also wants to make it look like it did when it was in use with the CCC. The OD green on the firewall could be matched. I (dad) am a fan of letting a vehicle tell its own story, that's why I like the patina. We'll see who wins in a few months. Thanks for watching.

@@Xthreadgarage K8lynn is a smart girl. When I look at it, I think it was used on a farm & was painted with Allis Chalmers tractor paint. To be as old as it is, the cab is in amazing shape. I would expect it was stored under a roof for at least part of its life. Believe it or not, that build tag on the glove box door adds to the value of the truck. That grill is going to be a chore to find but they are out there. It will be interesting to see which engine the flathead is. It will either be a 221 cubic inch or a 239 cubic inch. The bore size of the pistons were different but the stroke & connecting Rod length will be the same for both engines. The power rating of both engines was rated @ 90 hp. The first new car my dad bought after WW II was a 1950 Custom with a 239, by that time they had increased the compression ratio & boosted the power to 100 hp. There are lots of speed parts available for these engines, multiple carburetor intake manifolds, the fancy finned aftermarket heads, high capacity water pumps and exhaust headers. When she gets older she might want to do some of this. Every year I attend a local street rod show here in our community called Frog Follies. It is for street rods where the base vehicles were built before 1947 (that truck would qualify). My beater is a 1955 Chevy so I just drive it out there and park in the back 40, but there are parts vendors there that sell parts for my cars. She could restore that truck to be the ultimate sleeper -- plain Jane on the outside with performance parts on the inside. I have always loved flatheads and at the show, they always impress me more than the small block Chevys that appear by the hundreds. They also have a very distinctive sound when used with performance mufflers. I would hope K8lynn would look forward to keeping that truck and driving it for the rest of her life. I can see a really pretty oak bed on the back with hand made wooden sides and a hand-crafted tailgate. That would be so gorgeous with the dark green paint on the cab and interior. I would go with tan or brown Naugahyde seats and some of the original rubber floor mats. She would be the envy of the entire neighborhood and the truck would be worth some real money!
