IS IT TRUE, WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT ADHD?: Drs. Katia Fredriksen and Yael Rothman are Pediatric Neuropsychologists that practice outside of the DC area. Their focus is the brain behavior relationships. Even though they are trained as clinical psychologists, they focus on the assessment piece. They assess, diagnose and recommend different treatments.
In this video, we talk about some misconceptions when talking about ADHD and how people can find factual information.

Our experience with seeking help for my daughter was that we were intensely shamed for "causing the problems" and this got in the way if getting an early and good diagnosis. She exhibited with shutting down during puberty (in a fight/flight/freeze reaction to intense anxiety and confusion, she froze). She was variously diagnosed with "problems we caused from parenting", defiance, depression, bi-polar, autism, severe clinical anxiety. With this last diagnosis she did get some very good help clinically, but I see it still missed the ADHD that seems very apparent to us now that we are learning to look outside the misconceptions. It was her sister, while studying Early Childhood Education, who twigged onto an ADHD possibility, and reading up I thought BINGO!! Looking back to her "quirks" in childhood I personally am sure. But it is now a decade out from her initial difficulties shutting down and she will not consider further exploration, saying she is just "weird". We keep quietly putting some ideas out there. But back to my main thought, the fact that ADHD is not well understood by the very people we asked; educators, spiritual leaders, doctors, mental health professionals, NAMI. I am looking at how I can take my experiences to put a broader picture of ADHD on the radar. Thank you very much for your channel ❤️

Yes, it can be hard when you see that there are so many that misunderstand ADHD. It definitely needs more support than it is getting.
