- I was asked by one of my viewers if I could do a review of this TonePros AVT2G CH. I was not going to do it initially, but considering the almost total absence of videos on this bridge, I decided to do it. There are a few things worth mentioning, which I cover in this video.
The guitar being upgraded is my 2015 Gibson Les Paul Junior. I've put in some money to make that guitar something worth keeping. This Tonepros bridge is hopefully the last upgrade needed.
Here are the specs for this Tonepros System II:
- Fits without modification for USA guitars with Standard Center Stud Mound bridges
- Clean intonation and harmonic overtones
- Bolt spacing: 82 mm (3 2/8")
- String distance: 10.4 mm (4/8")
- Finish: chrome
- Includes SS1 locking studs, Allen key and TonePros "Heighten & Tighten" key

After watching this video, I decided to go with the same bridge you bought. It's for my 2022 Gibson Les Paul Jr.I also have a question, is your tuning stability improved a lot after installing this particular bridge? Because, that's all I'm after.

Hey there, I’m thinking about buying a TonePros AVT2P N Wraparound Bridge for my Les Paul Jr. I’m having some tuning stability issues so I wonder would this type of upgrade help clearing out the problem ? Thanks in advance

Funny enough I’ve switched from a tonepros (I upgraded) back to a lightning wrap around, yes stability is a little worse but I love the original look on my 1960’s sg Melody maker

Tonepros AVT2G or Tonepros AVT2G CH? I'm going on based on video title. I have a Epoch and this looks perfect to install. Doing the same as you in taking a guitar thats cheap (price not quality) and upgrading.

The main reason why I would get it is improving the intonation in case if the stock bridge can’t fine tune it.

My SG Special has the same bridge (but in chrome) and if I fret too hard on bar chords etc. the notes get pulled sharp - I'm not sure if it's the nut or the bridge or both but this seems like a worthwhile upgrade! Thank you for the informative video 🙏

My pleasure George. Bringing it to a tech would definitely help. Sometimes a proper setup is all the guitar needs. If your bridge tilts forward, then this is a great replacement that does help with tuning and action issues.

Great video. The only reason I would buy a Gibson is that nothing gets the sound they have. Interesting that you changed the pick up.

The P90 in mine was very different than what we associate as a standard P90.The 2015 models had a design called a "slug" pole P90. They were flat pole and for some reason it sounded more like a standard single coil. This design was originally introduced in 1947, and was used on hollowbody guitars. On a solid body guitar, they sounded different. Hence why I had a P90 made to 50/60's specs.

I just put this bridge in my SG special with the aim to fix intonation and be more accurate. It does a great job at that, but somehow it lost some resonance and the sound of the bridge pickup became a bit more brittle, not sure if it’s because the space between the bridge pickup and the bridge is more narrow now. Another thing I noticed was that it did change the feel of the guitar as well so I think I’ll go back to the original bridge and maybe look for another solution, was wondering if you had any other bridges in mind before this one? Great video by the way thanks so much for your knowledge and taking time to make videos like this!!

@@TheToneLounge to be honest I am not sure, the only thing I have changed is the bridge but it just feel different :( I’ll give it a month or so to see if maybe I am just being picky haha thanks for replying!!! :)

What matters is the distance between the pickup and the saddles. As the bridge itself is bigger, any other physical difference is purely cosmetic.

I saw somewhere that you need to file your own grooves in the saddle on the tonepros, is this true and if so, is it hard to get right?
@TheToneLounge
@TheToneLounge 9 күн бұрын
@cornnflaek3271 that may be true where you are intending to put a bigger size gauge of strings. If you use 9s or 10s then it works just fine. At least, it did for me.

I doubt the original bridge is titanium. More likely zink pot metal or Zamak. Titanium is expensive and wouldn't be used on a budget instrument.
@TheToneLounge
@TheToneLounge 2 жыл бұрын
It's Zamak. My replacement nut is titanium.
@ijamsum
@ijamsum Жыл бұрын
To adjust the bridge nuts i use a quarter so you cannot scratch the nut with soft metal like a quarter ! Removing the bridge nut inserts you use a short brass rod and screw the nut down on the rod which pulls the insert right out of the wood evenly and carefully then insert the inserts that come with your new wrap around bridge.

@@danielguimaraes8705 I am sure you have your answer by now, but yes, the locking posts are clamping down onto the bridge to hold it in place. so before any attempts are made to adjust the bridge via the allen screws, you should "unclamp" the bridge from the posts. As far as loosening the strings, everyone will tell you yes. but for minor moves i don't find it necessary.
