Hah. I can wake up at 4 am five days a week, but then I get these totally random days where it's BoOm 1-2pm out of fucking nowhere. It's not perfect, but it is much better than a year ago, which is when I started to listen to Jocko and JBP. The other half of things that I'm really proud of is that now I know why I'm doing it. That's more JBP than Jocko. #humblebragg I'm still very far from the goals that I've set myself, and I'm failing most of the incremental small goals I set myself as steps toward the greater. But that's.. at least in part explained by the fact that when you fix the problems in your sight, new ones pop up and slow you down.

I think that most young people envision being a leader because they like the idea of being able to boss everyone around, but don't understand that a good leader has to serve under his men, and then the followers elevate him into the position of leader.

I am a career officer in the Fire Service. Sadly we have a lot of folks in leadership roles who demand “ military discipline “ however those same folks have never served in the military. We function in an autocratic mode only 20% of the time. I have to to earn the trust of crew. When I do that - we train. They buy in to what I need them to do. They are then able to function independently. They are developing their own potential to succeed once they are promoted.

This is in the Marine Corps a lot too. Exactly what you’re saying there. I found at times with some leaders and some of the guys in my squad I really had to figure out those little nuances that got people to work with me. I’m definitely not one of those alpha type personalities.. I found that I’m a pretty laid-back person even within something like the Marine Corps. So my personal “struggle” was finding ways to get people to work with me. Your podcast has always helped me.

Hey Jocko. I would really like to hear about one of your missions, one you can share to the public of course. My CS professor was a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War and this was one of the stories he told us. He was leading a team of 6 on a mission and they had to infiltrate a village. They were waiting outside the village and a tiger slowly comes up to them. They are all thinking of what to do, they can't just get up and run out of there, they wouldn't stand a chance against the cat. While they were coming up with ways to diffuse situation, one of his team members, slowly went over to the tiger and in his words "told the tiger to leave them alone". He described it as the soldier essentially talking to the tiger and he had never seen anything like that before. And the tiger left them and went away. Anyways, that's all he could share about his time in the SEAL teams but it was pretty cool.

I would love to see David Marquet on the Jocko Podcast. He was a USN submarine commander who evolved a leadership style called "leader-leader" ... as opposed to "leader-follower." It was very powerful and his sub went from worst-rated in the fleet to best in a year. His book is 'Turn the Ship Around!'

Jocko, I'm probably the not your typical demographic. I'm a mother of 7 and a grandmother of 5. Every statement you make about getting after it, resonates with my soul! I've been living the go-getter life for many years. I've searched for anyone who can present REAL motivation. I've had "trainers". I've done the guru-pay for it til you DON'T get it-self-help-mindset shifting things. What I found are a bunch of burn-out, unrealistic, inauthentic, ridiculous, wouldn't know true hustle if it fell down out of the sky, landed on their face and started to wiggle, types. Thank you for sharing your go-gettedness with me! It's so great to know that there ARE like-minded people out there! Our youngest son is currently in Marine Corps boot camp OOHRAH!!! He introduced me to your podcasts! He inherited my go-gettedness! His recruiter asked "Mom (as if I was some delicate little thing), are you sure you're ready for this?" I replied, "Well, considering our son was conceived using 2 forms of birth control, born 6 weeks premature, born breach via c-section, and he was the lone survivor of spontaneous triplets, and now he's 6' 5" & signing these documents of his own free will because of the innate integrity and love of God, family and country that has been instilled in him, the question respectfully, is the Marine Corps ready for my son?" 💪 Grateful for this country, for all who serve, for those of us go-getters who lead the way! Thank you for your continued service!

Have you seen the Enders Game? People get hoodwinked by the authority figure whom they have no reason to mistrust. On a lighter note, a suggestion: a video of Jocko Honest Trailers-style imitating Echo retelling his favorite movies. MiB with the worm self inside the big scary outside lump is my personal favorite. Or maybe a commentary over MiB4 breaking down the tactics and interpersonal hoopla. :D

Perfect timing Jocko, thanks! Real human stuff. This ain't Hollywood folks, it's real life👍👋👏 #Choices #Decisions doesn't mean failure. One makes choices concerning the in time situation. choosing reality over following blindly, when in your gut, knowing your real mindset at that particular time took a turn because of shiiits, so you choose what's best for you and your teammates. Love the real #Reality here Jocko👣🕊⚓

Jocko, in WW1 if you did not go over the top. You were shot by your own troops. The British executed over 300 of their own soldiers. The Russians were even worse in WW2. The French troops actually mutinied in 1917, over the senseless slaughter among other things.

M P I have seen prayers answered. I have seen people that were broken with despair have their entire life turned around by Christ. I have seen people healed by Faith. I was not raised as a Christian, and even though I don't deserve it, Christ went out of his way to try and save me.

@M P I got a buddy that was an atheist his entire life, he had gang ties did all kinds of stupid stuff. A couple years ago he went to Mexico for vacation and became extremely ill, he lost 100 pounds (something crazy like that) in a couple days, doctor made him sign his will etc. Before he was about to die a pastor came to him and gave him a way out, he was healed in a week by prayer, the doctors could not do a thing for him. Once he was fully recovered he went back to the apartment he was staying at, they dug out a spot in his living room and they found "cursed" objects. Now he is apart of an evangelist group that travels around the country exercising demons. Pretty crazy story I know but I'm fortunate enough to see who he was before and what became of him. He's truly a testimony of God's works no doubt.

M P it is said that if the demons fail in their missions to tempt us they become humliated and then beat up and ridiculed back in Hell. ... That people are used as an instrument of God's punishment to the demons in this way.

I see what the OP is getting at, however...it would be akin to saying that because you learned how to do math with numbers that you cant apply math skills to anything except numbers, which would be wrong. You can use math to divide food evenly between your family. Instead of numbers it could be food, wood, shoes, cars, clouds, files, ...etc. Literally everything Jacko talks about is about PEOPLE, including yourself, and how to apply yourself and how to engage with the environment and the different types of personalities people have. Everything is about problem solving which is LIFE itself, life is a gigantic series of problems that need solving from birth until death. Some things have become trivial because you've become so good at it that picking out clothes to wear when it's cold outside doesnt take much thought, the you have more complex financial decisions and relationship issues...etc.
