Neil has a HUGE catalog of songs that are very widespread as far as their sound and genre. May I humbly suggest "Cinnamon Girl" , "Down By The River" or "Cowgirl In The Sand ". Neil was with Crosby, Stills and Nash for a while. He does, as you mentioned, have a "unique" voice. Neil is an outstanding guitarist which is not obvious on this track. Great reaction as always. Take care.

Quite wonderful to hear reactions from people who have never heard Neil before! I have always loved his music, but did I love his voice when I heard him for the 1st time, I do not remember. What I do know, that I have loved his voice about 50 years. I can't separate it from his music, his voice and music are unique, nobody else sounds like him. I find him honest, autenthic, and I feel his voice reflects those qualities.

He is not a cookie cutter type of singer that writes distinctive songs. He has stood the test of time for close to 50 years as a solo artist and member of Buffalo Springfield and CSNY. He has also been called the Godfather of Grunge. My, my, hey, hey. Rock and roll is here to stay!

Great Reaction BARS & BARBELLS! I just a fan of Neil Young I’ve listened to his music my whole life! Harvest Moon is just that feeling good vibe! One of the backup singers is Nicolette Larson! One Neil and Nicolette were riding in his pickup and she found a cassette on the floor board she put in the player and liked to song she asked Neil if she could cover it and he just gave it to her! The song was Lotta Love and it blew up for her in 1979! It’s crazy how those things just happen out of the blue! Rest In Peace Nicolette Larson!🙏🏻

Neil is, without question one of the greatest singer songwriters there is. In the same company as fellow Canadians like Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot and Leonard Cohen, as well as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. Neil has a high pitched voice, but he uses it well. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but to be honest, one listens to Neil Young for the message and the emotion in his lyrics, not simply to hear his voice. That's not to take anything away from his music. Neil is a great musician with enormous range. And he did not write music trying to appeal to the masses. He had only one #1 single (“Heart of Gold”), but Neil preferred it that way. After the enormous success of his album “Harvest,” on which “Heart of Gold” appeared, he said that they tried to put him in the middle of the road, so he headed for the ditch. His next three albums, hailed by his fans and by critics as brilliant, were darker and clearly not intended for popular success. Throughout his career, Neil followed his own instincts, frequently reinventing himself, and thus remaining endlessly innovative and relevant. A product of the singer songwriter movement of the late 1960s, Neil also composed some great rock songs, especially with his backing band Crazyhorse. He is considered the godfather of grunge, acknowledged by Kurt Cobain, Pearl Jam and others for his enormous influence.

Neil is a very talented musician, singer & songwriter. He was with the groups Buffalo Springfield & Crosby, Stills & Nash in the later 60's. Also had his own group with Crazy Horse for a few years. Neil went solo & has had so many great songs over the years. The albums "After The Gold Rush" & "Harvest" from the 70's are considered 2 of his best.

The beauty here is not that it’s a lovesong, but that it’s a lovesong for middle age: because I’m STILL in love with you, I want to see you dance AGAIN, because I’m STILL in love with you, on this HARVEST MOON (autumn, late in the year, not summer or spring). This is what it’s like to be 40 and look at the one you love and to remember that you love them.

I watched a televised tribute concert where several musicians sang his songs while he sat and was being honored. He is renowned for his song writing more than his singing. Here is an excerpt from Rolling Stone magazine. In 2010, Young was named the 2010 MusiCares Person of the Year, another annual Grammy-week event. A massive tribute concert was held in his honor, featuring performances by Elton John, Wilco, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Leon Russell, Dave Matthews, John Fogerty and many others.

Always say it, Neil Young is The MAN. As a native born Canadian, Neil is a great American. For a more upbeat song I would suggest "Rockin' In The Free World", there are several great live versions, one with Pearl Jam and one with some random band in England where he keeps on rockin' and rockin' and rockin' in the free world. Also try: "Cinnamon Girl", "Powderfinger", "Cortez The Killer", "Down By The River", "Sugar Mountain", "Heart Of Gold" his biggest radio hit, "Old Man", "After The Goldrush", "Sedan Delivery", "Needle And The Damage Done" and "My My Hey Hey, Out Of The Blue" or "Hey Hey My My Into The Black" the "Blue" is acoustic and the "Black" is electric. There is lots more.

He is most known for "rockers" but I enjoy this a lot, perhaps partly because it is such a departure from his usual work... and in that vein, I also like some other emotional stuff.. like: "Needle and the Damage Done" and also "Long May you Run"... I've grown old with Neil Young and loved his principles and this song was all about his second wife Pegi. It was about growing old together as a couple, staying true and loyal through thick and thin till the end. That's what gave it credibility and made it so deep and poignant however that's not how things turned out. Neil dumped Pegi around 2012 for daryl hannah, . Pegi was left devastated and died of cancer several years later. As far as I'm concerned he shat on his legacy David Crosby criticized Young for this and Young broke up their friendship.

Lots on the to-do list for now but we'll keep April Wine in mind for a future reaction! Thx for the suggestion

He was almost 50 when he wrote this. It is a great song, but he is really known for his 70s output.

(I get it...this isn't your cup of tea)😏 No problem. He has quite an extensive collection to choose from, here's another one of his more popular hits to give a listen, if interested. "Neil Young - Needle And The Damage Done [UNPLUGGED]" or 2) "Neil Young - The Needle And The Damage done (Official Audio)" Enjoyed rocking with you two, thanks peace out

If you want to hear some of his older stuff, I’d strongly recommend Old Man (live from the BBC is a good version), The Needle and the Damage Done, Cinnamon Girl, Powderfinger. His catalogue is so deep, dig in and you’ll find something believe me.

Niel Young is also a part of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Their first public show was Woodstock...

Woodstock was their second show. They performed in Chicago a few days earlier, on August 16th.

Neil was a great songwriter and "broke in" to the music biz when I was growing up. With CSNY, his composition - "OHIO" was a fantastic hit and a blockbuster social comment. Another Neil Young social comment is "Needle and the Damage Done" is another blockbuster. More hits: Old Man, Alabama.

Neil thought of himself as a guitar player not a singer. Then he heard Bob Dylan and said if he can sing than I can sing. He is also known as the grandfather of Grunge music.

Great song choice for a very first Neil Young impression! 😀👍 'Cinnamon Girl' is awesome, too (and some others) 😊

I love your dad's recommendation! I'll be seeing AJ Lee & Blue Summit in December. One of my favorite bands I've been following for several years now. AJ's voice is angelic. Also saw The Brothers Comatose a few years back, such a fun band. Both are from northern California.

I have the albums, the cassettes, and the CDs. Now Neil is on my cloud playlists. But not Harvest Moon. Don't remember it being played on the radio much either. I seen lots of great suggestions in the comments, please give him another chance. Maybe instead of the cover even!

I've heard that those background harmonies were done by Linda Ronstadt in the studio.

I consider Neil Young as a very talented musician, that has great songs, lyrics, vocals, and I agree with some of the polls where he is placed in the top 20 of all time greatest rock guitarists. He is a prolific song writer, and has the ability to write great lyrics about societal events, and about what's going on in his life. Harvest Moon is an example of a beautiful love song, but Neil Young wrote a lot more love lost songs, and protest songs. I saw him in concert at the University of Colorado in 1971, and it was one of my favorite concerts. He played alone with an acoustic guitar, harmonica, and a piano. He was very intimate, down to earth, and I was amazed at how good he was. If you react to more Neil Young, I would recommend some of his rock songs like Southern Man, Cortez the Killer, that have great lyrics and electric guitar play.

Neil can sing you a lullaby, or rock your face off, and everything in between.
