Testing on oats and breakfast cereals is clear: glyphosate contamination is often very high in nonorganic oats and breakfast cereals. If you are fighting against infertility and autoimmune disorders, yes. It might be worth it to eat organic and whole food as possible. Kinda depends on the food type and area grown in as you mention.

I appreciate your talking about this. Food that I grow, I eat too so other than a little dawn in water to kill squash bugs, I don’t spray. But I also sell eggs. I tell people I don’t feed organic feed because it would drastically raise the price of my eggs and I really don’t know if it is truly organic. What we do is allow our chickens on grass, to eat bugs, table scraps and I ferment their feed. I also try to rotate what they eat meaning I don’t just feed them a pellet feed. They get scratch and whatever is available and appropriate at my local mill. It’s funny that when I start explaining this to new customers, at least half say oh I grew up on a farm. 😂 They know what’s good.

Western Arkansas here, I just stumbled onto this video and immediately subscribed. I am in the Ouachita Mountains and for decades now I have grown a garden because the veggies just taste better. After doing some research over the winter months I expanded my gardens. People need to read and research the pesticides and herbicides along with the preservatives used on commercial fruits and veggies like, Apeel, Organipeel, Edipeel, etc. One of the common issues with home growers is getting manure or compost contaminated with Grazon or other herbicides. These herbicides are applied to hay fields, they pass through the animals that eat the hay, and kill any garden where this manure is used. I personally bought some contaminated compost last year and every plant died. We tend to take too much for granted when it comes to details that are controlled by the government. Pay close attention to the pesticides and herbicides portion of this video, read the fine print. In the words of my late father in law, the government will never do anything for you that doesn’t benefit them. This includes regulating your food. Much praise for this video and I can’t wait for the next.

Really great info!!! Thanks so much! I grow my own too and people look at the odd shapes and scars on my tomatoes like euhhh!!! But they taste good and I cut around bug damage too. When did it become the norm to have perfect fruit? And then throw away imperfect produce when we have so many hungry people?

This is amazing information Andrea, and something I did not know! I try to purchase organic when I can but I am not very strict about it. I would much rather purchase something from my local farmer, even if sprayed, than buy from Walmart. Thank you for always giving us the tools to make our own decisions and not preaching as some other channels do!

I don't want my vegetables sprayed with Glyphosate. I understand organic uses some kind of pesticides, but hopefully not as bad as non organic. I prefer to buy from my local farmer and ask if they grow without spraying pesticides or harsh chemicals. I grow my little gardens without harsh chemicals, but I know it is a lot more work for farmers and I am willing to pay for their hard work. Thank you for your video very informative.

Great clarification! It's hard to ask farmers about practices. Some get upset but also when people are willing to go to the store and not research and ask question there, then it puts a lot on farmers who are already stressed. I try to grow things naturally and as organic as possible for health issues. I know I can't live without food but the pain and suffering food causes me from sulfates and nitrates is painful and debilitating. I try to limit eating processed foods, and trying hard to not buy and support bioengineered. If I can't find organic I at least try to find non gmo. It's getting ridiculous that I can't go out to eat and find realeat these days. Twice I've gotten something that didn't taste or feel like real...and it made me sick. So I need to ask questions. Not so I won't buy but so I know what I'm picking and choose options less of a issue for me. Allergies keep me away from what everyone's putting in food and products these days and the ones who care should be the producers of products. How easy would it be to build a lifetime customer buying products produced with them in mind and might create a whole new clientele. I'm thinking the bigger the farm and the more you put out the less likely you can not spray...especially with those army worms. I think there's probably safer products on family farms that understand both sides of the issue. Honesty is the best policy but it's pretty much a trust issue. Large scale farmers who product more can sell for less sometimes. I try to put away something home canned but also buy some canned veg and fruit if it's a good buy because having something to eat is usually better then nothing but with me less is better if the wrong thing cripples me and keeps me in pain. It is easy to know quickly when I've been exposed to certain things and I can loose a day or more from not being vigilant. Thankfully others aren't always that reactive but if those things do cause eventual problems, better to do the best you can to learn more. I appreciate knowing better wording to explain what I'm looking for and why!

We tell folks we aren't certified organic, but we grow usiny the organic method.

I read an article several years ago that our bodies had few pesticides, etc. in it in the 1950's. At the time the article was written it was not unusual for 350 different chemicals were being discovered. I am going to guess I read this in the early 2000's. Just imagine how many are being found now. Now jump to the increase of illness' through time. I believe you are what you eat. We try to eat as clean as we can because I am going to disagree that our bodies can handle all of these poisons. What society would allow them anyway? That is the biggest question. Andrea is right, we need to get over thinking our food needs to look perfect. If you are eating produce as nature intends, it has most likely been knawed on by little beings. So discard this part (our chickens enjoy the discards or it is put in a compost pile at our house).

We have never eaten organic. My dad lived to be 94, and I am 78. Of course we have never eaten inorganic.

If it's not real food you can keep it the vegetables you're worried about using spray on your food and you know what comes in that kind of crap

Not getting more money that what it cost to grow organic crops

So what does organic food mean? I’ve been buying organic bc I thought it was sot sprayed with pesticide. I am learning to garden and live in central Arkansas. Is there a safe pesticide to use. Squash bugs and pill bugs are the devil!
