This is what sometimes frustrating me as a KZfaq creator and a Chef that actually cares about what videos and recipes should be like. As a Chef, I see so many recipes that don't make any sense and still have so many views only because of the nice end result that shown to the viewer and the satisfaction of the KZfaq Algorithm. I am really not surprised that these type of creators don't want their faces in the video that they create.

I feel like "So yummy" and the likes are baking channels for people who do not want to bake. Instead it´s for people who just passively consume cooking content, thinking:"hey that´s a good Idea" only to never try and and not find out it´s fake. Or worse yet, some beginners may try and get discouraged because the bullshit recipe did not work and they blame themselves for lack of skill while in reality they are being conned.

The basil one made me feel like they were insulting my intelligence. As someone who grew up with fresh herbs, I know it takes a while for them to dry like that. However, if you've got fresh basil, why on earth would you instantly need some dried basil for a recipe? The fresh is tastier, you only need to dry fresh herbs if you want to preserve them for the off season, so the long drying time isn't a problem as you won't be using them right away.
@Fragenzeichenplatte
@Fragenzeichenplatte 4 жыл бұрын
I also the basil one particularly egregious. They're lying, plain and simple. And why? Because it doesn't matter if it's true or if it works. The only thing that matters if people watch and "engage" with it because you get paid by views and subscribers, not by likes or even quality.

@@Nolascana That is what I did. I looked up many methods. One girl showed how she does it in the microwave by turning down the power and also using different settings on it...however I don't understand then the point of going through growing your own herbs if you're gonna torch it in a microwave, microwaves change the cellular structure of foods. My favorite and only used method now, is preheating the oven to the lowest heat, while it's heating, lay out the herbs on a cookie sheet face up (Basil shouldn't be flat to sheet because air won't get to the underside.) It would even be best if you had a metal grate that fits inside the cookie sheet so the warm air gets all around the herbs. Stick it into the oven and then immediately turn off the oven. Keep the door closed and the herbs typically are dried within 45 minutes to an hour.

@@ewelinaewelinka2306 I don't know who invented this trick, but back when I saw it for the first time I read it on a Chinese magazine for children, and 15 years ago, in China, it wasn't very easy to find gelatine or jello mix in ordinary grocery stores because Chinese people didn't make those kinds of sweets at home. (I think agar was easier to buy, but they usually came in bigger packs.) Gummies (we call them QQ candy) could be found in every small or big store, and they were cheap, came in small packs, easy to work with, and had different flavors. So, yeah, it made perfect sense to my 8-year-old self XD

@@Fanible It's basically fancy clickbait (like a new round of "And you won't believe what happens next!") combined with flooding social media with their different channels. One other point is that sketchy social media accounts often use bots and other deceptive tactics to accomplish the latter. Some are based on artificial traffic by fake accounts / subscribers. Others are fake Facebook accounts that share videos into various groups (who's gonna say no to the sweet grandma profile pic that definitely wasn't snatched off of Google?). After a while, herd mentality takes over (sometimes led by grandma-bot) where people begin sharing these things without testing them at all -cuz the result looks "cute"- as they don't want to be out of the loop of something that appears to be popular.

That's why a lot of people are hoping for some sort of alternative to KZfaq. A lot of great content creators, not just cooking channels, are getting their content demonetised, comments disabled and strikes for things they either didn't do or simply voiced out their opinion on a certain topic. For instance, TheJapanChannel, an extremely friendly content creator that never uses profound language and only makes little videos about living Japan, had their comments disabled because in one or two of their videos they talked about children in Japan - how they generally grew up in Japanese society, what the kindergarten and school system was like, entirely informational material they wanted to share as a local to anyone interested in Japanese society.

Me too! However I really like the Buzzfeed Nifty and Tasty channels because they really do focus on the things they do and don’t just have minute long videos of life hacks/recipes they have in depth tutorials with the actual chefs/crafters.

Thanks for sharing Ann, this is a real eye opener. I have stopped looking at 5 min crafts and so yummy and anything else that resembles them because of you. I came across your channel when I wanted to know how to temper chocolate and have loved your content whether it is decorating a cake or a so yummy burn ever since. Hope the family is well, keep safe.

They must have used some very high butterfat (read:expensive) ice cream. So, probably only worth it if you think your Häagen-Dazs is better as icing than as ice cream. Basically, not worth it at all. It's faster and easier to make icing from scratch anyway.

@吳子佑 NG TSZ YAU 3C24 That people steal content from Tasty? Well, they might and probably do. But there have been multiple times I see a recipe on Tasty that I know was developed by another blogger or baker because I read their post about it and all the details that went into the recipe. Now, if they credited someone else, I'd have no problem with that. I mean, you can't follow every single cook and baker out there, you know? A consolidated page would be nice. But I've never seen credit. Go see what Kenji Lopez has to say about Tasty; you'll get an earful!

@@oracleofdelphi-4059 If it's implied that it's their own recipe, it is. Listen, like I said, if they made a video and say this is Betty Baker's recipe and here's how it looks making it, that's completely different. Recipes are a tricky thing because you can change some tiny little things and say it's your own. 1/4 tsp salt instead of 1/2 tsp, an extra tbl of butter, etc. and voila, new recipe. Look at Smitten Kitchen. She started with trying the recipes of other baking bloggers and then tweaked them to make them her own. But she gave 100% credit to where she got the recipe and still does.
