Imagine how heroic subaru is in everybody's eyes in lagunica. He is been there only a few months and just destroyed three of the most evil and destructive forces that had been on rampage for centuries. And the fact he did all that just because he loved his friends is literal definition of a hero.

Subaru is like the side character who compliments the MC and improves them as a character.

What makes Subaru a Hero? I believe it's only because he's a truly good person, and only that, from the very start to the end. Even in Hell. You may say, the goodness inside him is stronger than anything Zero world can throw at him.

In my opinion Subaru is the best hero because he’s kinda useless. He can’t fight and relies on others. It’s nice to see that the mc isn’t overpowered and it shows he only as good as his thinking abilities

When I told my friend about the Subarus from the what if stories he automatically cheered for them cause they weren't "failures" like our Subaru what he failed to hear was the flaws of every what if Subaru and their respective worlds I pointed out. From his shallow perspective the what if Subarus are better, likely because I kept his anime only mind spoiler free so he doesn't know what Subaru did past arc 4 , but from what I see those stories only emphasise how good the main Subaru is and how much he develops each arc

He's the greatest hero in the re zero universe, not anyone is on his level as a hero

Hell yeah! Subaru is definitely a Hero in the eyes of the cast (maybe except for Echidna who is observing him?). Having been able to defeat the white whale, Petelgeuse, freeing the Sanctuary and achieving what he achieved in arc 5 and 6 (I have yet to read arc 7) must be seen by all his friends as an incredible and amazing guy. But from our point of view, we know very well he is not like that, and we get to see all his flaws, weaknesess, defeats and failures time after time. He is human after all. He is definitely an anti hero in that aspect. Yet despite all the shit he goes through he does not give up and proceeds to continue for the sake of his beloved ones. May that or not be considered part of being a hero, I just can see Subaru is an amazing guy. And an amazing main character. We just have to look at how deep he is as a character. I have never seen a character having such a character development after arc 6. I like him a lot. Quality content man. Keep it up

What a great video man! I can tell you put a lot of work into it and it turned out amazing. In my opinion I do think Subaru is a hero. He has never given up to save the people he loves and people he doesn’t even know. He will kill himself to try to fix things that ended with people dying. He shows constant bravery and always steps up to be the one to help out. He has become the complete opposite of what he was at the beginning of arc 1. Re: Erring Life in Another World From Zero Published on April Fools of 2017, Tappei Nagatsuki wrote a chapter, commonly known as Ayamatsu or Pride IF. The point of divergence from the main story is Subaru's fourth return-by-death, where Reinhard saves Subaru from hoodlums and ultimately goes on to save him from Elsa. In this timeline, Reinhard does not appear, leaving Subaru to his fate. At the absolute rock bottom, Subaru finds that the only way he can go is up, and bound by his own pride, he resolves to "save" Emilia by any means necessary, bringing himself down a much darker path. In Pride IF, "pride" does not necessarily refer to pride in a traditional sense, referring to a lack of humility and excess self-gratification. Contextually, pride here means unrelenting determination, even if the consequences are fatal. He did actually call for help, but no one arrived, hence the other failed loops. It's not as clear cut though, since the translation can be a bit wonky, but Reinhard did never come to help in the 4th loop, like the other comment posted. And honestly, when you think about it, all the IF divergence points are not really 'Sin vs Virtue', since it's implied that Subaru wasn't really given a choice in any one of them, only the external factors changed.

you say that everyone only sees his good moments, but all his lowest moment exists in the current timeline, at least till up to where the anime is. His blunder in the capital is def his lowest moment character wise, and that was something EVERYONE saw

You know I did it kinda ironic how similar Aganu if and Greed Subaru are because they are on two different ends of the same extreme spectrum Aganu mostly only cares about getting his revenge (with some scenes showing he does genuinely care about his new allies) and using emotional manipulation to get it whereas Greedbaru only cares about saving his friends......and Is willing to use emotional manipulation to keep it that way. There's no one this isn't intentional and it shows how even though he grew since arc 3 he was really only treating a part of a much greater problem with his sheer drive blinding him to how unhappy he can make himself through sheer stubbornness

Is Mr. Adequate?, after all, he saved those who killed you, this is already a bell, he continues to save everyone while dying, whether he wants it or not, he wants to value his life, but at the same time he is constantly dying

Man, there are so many things wrong with this analysis that I don't even know where to start. His concept of the hero is clearly simplistic and biased. From his perspective, Subaru is not a hero because: . He runs away from problems . He has no self-confidence The first point is a complete lie, as Subaru tends to meddling himself into trouble even when it's not necessary, something he was even criticized for in Arc 3. The second is simply irrelevant. Does his low self-esteem make him stop being a hero? So Percy Jackson is not a hero. Neither does Emilia and Reinhard, who you immediately praised as heroes in the comments, as they fall under those two points, Emilia at point 2 so far and point 1 through Arc 4, Reinhard at both points always. Using the dictionary: "a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities." Subaru has it all, though he doesn't even need to. Courage, outstanding achievements and noble qualities. Subaru is extremely brave, facing serial killers, terrorists, and extremely powerful monsters to save his friends and even strangers, suffering gruesome deaths in the process. Not to mention the times he literally killed himself to save people. Remembering that until Echidna enlightened him in Arc 4, he believed that each death could be his last. He has numerous achievements, more than any other character in the series, with the exception of the 3 Legendaries Heroes (the fact that you believe Reinhard is a bigger hero than Subaru shows how mistaken you are, since since Arc 5 everyone trusts more in Subaru than in Reinhard and the only great heroic achievment Reinhard has is killing Regulus, which would be impossible without Subaru), and Subaru might even be one of them. Subaru saved millions of lives. And do I need to speak of noble qualities? Selflessness, kindness to the point of forgiving and saving people who torture and kill you, etc. If we go in literary terms, we have this: the chief male character in a book, play, or movie, who is typically identified with good qualities, and with whom the reader is expected to sympathize. "the hero of Kipling's story" (in mythology and folklore) a person of superhuman qualities and often semidivine origin, in particular one whose exploits were the subject of ancient Greek myths. The second concept is irrelevant as it is unique to mythology. The first Subaru fits perfectly. Subaru died more than 100 times to save others, without being able to tell anyone. And if he did, he would be seen as the greatest hero of all time. And no, Rem isn't right, and she knows it herself. "Subaru's deeds are not heroic because he has some secondary motivations, like loneliness, not out of pure altruism (whatever that means)." Wow, yes. Peter Parker, used at the beginning of the video as an example of a hero, clearly has no motivation to honor his uncle, whom he feels the death of. It's also clear that Subaru saved Felt, Rom, Lusbel, and dozens random civilians in in the square of Priestella because loneliness, as he clearly planned to live together with them. It's also not like he cares about the random people he's saved, like the adults of Vila Arlam, the Crusch army, the population of Sanctuary, Priestella, and Guaral. It's not like he has monologues where he shows concern for them and blames himself those he didn't save, is it? It's also not like the reason he didn't kill himself to save Sirius' victims in the shelters was explicitly stated by him to be fear of his death spawning alternate universes, i.e. altruism.

Subaru's heroic feats so far were motivated by his fear of abandonment, it's not genuine heroism. I think in arc 7 Subaru will forced to let go of his hero mindset and kill someone to protect his loved ones. Subaru's sin vs virtue choice will probably be whether he overcomes his fear and learns to love himself or not.

Actually Greed if Subaru is a hero he is just misguided he wouldn't have done any of this if it wasn't for echidna he feels guilty about hurting his friends but echidna always tells him he did the right thing and there's no other way they could have did things

About the whole Sage Candidacy thing, how many do you think there are in the story? Do you also think that Subaru is one of them? Or heck even Aldebaran? XD

Is Subaru a hero , the real answer is no he's not. He's just pretending to be a hero because he still believes himself to be the protagonist and this story is about him(which it is but from the world's perspective it shouldn't be) , he's putting himself in a position where he will be the hero . You ask why I say this , well let's look at it shall we First case : Emilia Nothing shows that Subaru is not a hero more than the whole archbishop arc where they fight Pete , Emilia did fight and beat petelguis but what did Subaru do in the next loops ,he sent her away , Not only was Emilia the perfect counter for guise she was more than likely going to beat him and she did before and because of her contract with puck he wouldn't have taken her over and if Subaru had the sense to be as far away from the fight as possible he wouldn't be at risk of being taken over. Secondly case : The entire second season He didn't have to do everything by himself but he did because he still believes himself to be the hero , even during the final of the second season were in he's normal stupid nature chose to bet everything on the off chance he won which realistically he should have lost but plot is plot , and to compound it off he didn't bother to tell Emilia what was happening, he's just doing everything and ignoring what Emilia needs , every gain in the election the Emilia camp has is because of him , Case 3 : The love between him and Emilia I'm just gonna say it here the love between isekai MCs and the girls there is normally fucked up and one sided and un-earned , and it's worse in rezero , Basically Emilia didn't have a snowballs chance in hell at ever loving anyone but Subaru , He's literally making it so Emilia can only ever fall in love with him wether he realises this or not I don't know , Emilia is his and his alone because of everything he's done for her ever since he came to this world, by continuously keeping Emilia from danger from growing and learning as a person and doing everything for her and literally rewriting the past and future to his liking he's making a future were Emilia loves him without ever getting to know the real Subaru and deciding for herself wether she like him or not but I suppose that what he's doing to everyone in the setting.
