People saying peak, flawless, or whatever else is just vernacular people use to hype their favorite series. There is no such thing, because humans are flawed individuals. I think flaws always exist and its healthy to mention them in things you like. But I think its disingenuous to feel defensive when people critically acclaim a series. Re Zero has flaws, its my favorite anime of all time. Subaru is my favorite protagonist of all time. But I think the series does have some flaws. Arc 4 has pacing issues that fuck with the flow at times, mitigated by the LN. Arc 3 has a few issues as well, arc 2 is honestly a really sound arc. Yea its not groundbreaking or crazy, but its very solid and has not as many problems with pacing or character motivations. But theres a reason people love particular anime and shows. I personally dont gaf when people call something peak. Its just hype talk man. And theres a lot of great things about media where people do gas em up a bit more than others.
@demifolk8940
@demifolk8940 3 ай бұрын
First off, the idea of something being a flawless masterpiece isn’t a real thing. Humans are naturally flawed, so no piece of media is flawless. Something is a masterpiece or a 10/10 for me when it can flourish despite its flaws. Re Zero, for me, can do this. I can recognize its flaws but I think it can be amazing despite it. You seem to be really defensive over people thinking its a great series, which is stupid. From the beginning you were already being disingenuous from the beginning. People just say peak fiction, flawless, masterpiece, 10/10 just cuz theyre excited about the thing they love. You can find issues with literally any piece of fiction. That said, you seem to be really stuck on the fact that Subaru HAS TO lose someone. I understand you make it clear that its not just so he can suffer, but then contradict yourself by saying he has to learn a lesson or feel grief/loss. But then you also say its not fair that the Emilia camp is protected by plot conveniences. What Roswaal was saying was that he was threatening Subaru with keeping his ideals. Subarus ideal of never sacrificing anyone was what beat Roswaal and his 400 year old ideology. He’s basically saying he has to stick to it or everything is meaningless. I personally don’t care that they have “plot armor” which is just a redundant criticism to have, because thats not what Re Zero is about. In that same vein, the lore is also not what Re Zero is about. I understand you want to know whats going on, i do too, but I don’t mind waiting or being fed small bits of info. Its fun to talk about and theorize. You also completely misinterpreted what Subaru was talking about near the end of arc 7. I knew this video is older so you couldn’t have known but Subauru is definitely keeping everyone alive. All the new shit happening in arc 8 basically proves it. Although arc 8 was out when this released and it almost seems like you just… didn’t read it? Maybe the vid took a while but you mentioned arc 8 in the description so idk. Anyway, he wasnt willing to let people die he was just trying to minimize any casualties as much as he can. Which is still ideological opposed to what Vollachia does. Subaru isn’t doing it to get revenge, he’s trying to prove himself in a place ideological destructive to his mindset. This was being imposed onto Subaru during all of arc 7, so Subaru is getting back at them. He obviously cares about them. And yes, its contradictory that Subaru is using RBD so much to achieve this. Thats the entire point. But Subaru using poison thats intentionally made to make him suffer is exactly the reason why Subaru is trying to keep his humanity as much as he can. You made it sound like hes just resetting when thats an important detail. I love it, Subaru is still keeping to his moral code. But hes taking such extreme measures to do it. Making himself suffer like that is such an interesting way for him to do it, cuz like I said, its contradictory. You also don’t seem to understand what arc 6 was actually saying. It wasnt about Subaru loving himself completely, he never even said anything like that. Yes, he showed appreciation for himself. But he wasn’t magically fixed. As someone who suffers from severe self esteem issues, its not that easy. I really don’t think you actually get it, its hard to accept that. Especially when Subaru has a secret he can never tell anyone. Repeated trauma always regresses him. And moving on to regression, Rems talk with him in arc 7. Subaru most definitely regressed despite you not seeing or agreeing with the reason. First off, he’s completely alone like you said. Which makes him vulnerable, and hes been repeatedly dying until that point. Hes stuff with an archbishop, and in a completely fucked up land where his existence is an issue for multiple reasons. He can ONLY believe in Rem, even if she doesn’t have her memories. So he clings to the one thing about Rem that gives him strength, her words to him. When she denies that, it breaks him. This seems completely reasonable, I haven’t even seen anyone else have a problem with this. Subaru is interesting because he regresses. Thats what makes him interesting TO ME. I do the same, my confidence is up then down. Humans don’t stay the same. And Subaru has experienced loss, his parents. This is real grief, he knows he cant see them again. Dont give me the “Its not for sure”, no, Subaru genuinely was saying goodbye to them. And he never got true closure, just something close to it. Todd being a werewolf was genius, I really don’t see the problem. It changes nothing, hes an incredible foil to Subaru. Todd also protects the one thing he cares about, in that way hes the image of Subaru that Roswaal wanted. And most of all, he stands as a mirror to Subarus actions. Showing us that Subarus idea of being able to pick who lives and dies, has a real effect. His tendency to scale lives is problematic. Todd sees through it, even if hes being harsh and we know Subaru isnt bad. Seeing his actions painted that way is eye opening, and Todd being a race of people discriminated against makes perfect sense why he wanted Subaru dead. His obsession with killing him, it explains why he thought Subaru believed that. Subarus fear of Todd, was very strange. It was the only reasonable explanation. And it showed a real divide between the two that Subaru didn’t know. His named chapter was incredible. I do get some of your points, maybe RBD has some issues. But I think Tappei has still done some interesting things with it. Subaru and Vincent chapter in arc 8 was fucking incredible, one of the best chapters of the series. I think you just don’t like how Re Zero tells its story which is fine. Tappei doesn’t have to do anything, he can write how he wants. No one needs to perma did, thats just how YOU think consequences have to happen. Maybe Tappei doesn’t agree? Maybe he doesn’t think the characters need dire consequences to be interesting. I would agree with that. As for kid Subaru, I was also unsure but I have grown to love it. The plot reasons for it being a way Vincent kept him a little safer, was kinda cool. Also, notice how Subaru starts dying a lot when he became a child? Its inarguably the moment when he really started racking up deaths. Because its supposed to be brutal. Its supposed to represent every worst aspect of Vollachia. Subarus need to be perfect being an extension of his prodigal mindset as a kid makes sense. They don’t need to explain everything, narratively it works out. Thematically, its very powerful. And most of all, Subaru is likely repressing all negative emotions. His memory issues dont need to be addressed rn, because they aren’t even a big issue. Just a small detail that may hint at something bigger. I think kid Subaru added a very interesting aspect to the story. It’s why Subaru is a bit more petty, why hes willing to make everything perfect still. Why hes a bit more flexible in how he handles things, like using the poison. Long ass comment I know, but Re Zero arc 7 and 8 have been great. Vincent has been one of the my favorite characters, and theres way more interesting characters. The O’Connel siblings are great, Flop is not an Otto copy just cuz hes a merchant. Taritta was cool. Chisha was SO badass, you didn’t even mention how cool the stargazer stuff was. Arc 7 ended fairly nicely, setting up the antagonist of arc 8. Everything coming together so perfectly. The Emilia camp came back, and they have mixed so perfectly with the new cast of characters we got. The action has been improved greatly. Cecilus is amazing. More Al is always great. Even if Subaru might feel a bit stagnated, I personally love the situations hes been in. And this ride has been a really great departure from what we expect. I understand if you still dislike it, I know Re Zero has flaws. But I also feel like sometimes people will always look for stuff to see as flaws, I personally think many of your points painting plot points and characters way more negatively than they actually were. Don’t take being calling RZ “flawless” so seriously, because nothing is

Smash Summit 8 may be the biggest butterfly effect for Melee competitively -Cody goes 0-3 in pools and at Smash Summit 9 that same year introduced a system where last place is eliminated before the Final Bracket on Sunday, but for 8 he gets to continue on -Moky SDing in the lead of Game 1 gave Cody the counter advantage/momentum -Overcoming his eventual demon in Mango when it mattered most -Beginning his dominance against aMSa and Hbox The Summit 9 fact is the most shocking, cause it would have all but certainly ended his career. If not for the low placing and payout, it'd be because he got bopped by players like Spud and Ginger. If any of these scenarios play out differently, it's likely Cody leaves for that degree and 2022/2023 look much different

I went from an absolute cody hater to, I think, a fan. While I dont like seeing him win tournaments most of the time I at least can respect the ahrd work he has done, not just with melee but his personal life. During 2021 till like early-mid 2023 he just seemed unhappy and the reverse pop-off on hbox just made me really dislike him, not that I am a massive hbox fan or anything it was just kinda weird. But then something changed and he started having fun again and laughing while playing. Mainstage 2022 was the first time I, sort of, wanted to see him win. Had it not been against mango I might have actually been cheering for him. Then salty suite was hilarious at apex was gold. Then the insane losers run at SSC. I think thats when I came full circle to seeing how much he has changed. I still think his fox is boring for being so optimized and damn near TAS level, but I do think he belongs in the era of the new gods.

great video, the audio and writing need help doe! I mean this with sincerity and no hate. The audio levels between you and cody is not good, I had to keep increasing volume when you talked and decrease when anyone else talked or music for a montage played. The writing has so many loose ends and is overall too slow paced and repeats a lot.

An absolute behemoth of a documentary that left no stone overturned as far as I'm aware. My only main gripe, as some others have pointed out in these comments, is pacing and by extension, video length. There were many instances where the script felt like it needed to repeat certain keywords or dates or add in sentence fragments to meet some arbitrary quota. You could probably prune 25%-40% of this runtime with more revisions and not cut out any important details. A smaller nitpick I had is about inflection and delivery. This could tie in with the final version of the script being longer than it probably should've ended up and thus, affecting the recording process, but there were plenty of times where you go too monotone, which takes away some amount of impact the section of story you're telling has. That said, I found the audio mixing and song selection particularly well done, so props for that. If you do decide to make another documentary about Melee, I would gladly watch. Cheers! (:
