You can explain this to someone who’s scared of sugar and they’ll ignore it and say “well I cut sugar and I feel way better”. Leaving out the part where by cutting sugar they slashed their calories by a third, lost some bodyfat and finally started eating a healthier to compensate for the hunger. Sugar didn’t make you feel terrible, overeating shitty foods and under eating healthier foods did lmao

AFAIK the vampire "bleh" came from reproducing in Bela Lugosi's Hungarian accent from the 1931 movie Dracula (where he played Dracula), particularly when saying the word "blood." People were apparently parodising his accent and character with saying the line "I want to suck your blood" in a thick Hungarian accent ("I vant to suck your blehd") so much people actually started thinking it appears in the movie, even though this is never actually spoken in the movie.

Somewhat right, but you really missed a few things. First look at the signal to noise ratio of any study on glycemic index. You know how. You will find that this should not be a clinical tool. Second, sugar causes glycative damage. As a primary energy source it causes harm in doing such. Of particular importance is that it damages arterial walls, and if the damage is frequent enough the body will have to form plaques to prevent you from bleeding out. 3rd, sugar is the primary source of energy for cancer cells. The Warburg hypothosis has survived every level of scrutiny. This isn't even being contested. 4. In regards to the randle cycle, energy substrate competition which you implied that you are aware of to some extent. It isn't just a bodyfat problem that can result from this. When the two compete for uptake they drive systemic inflammation. If you do it consistently enough then you have chronic systemic inflammation. A causal mechanism to to many disease processes. Show me the test which is regularly done in basic blood work which can measure every consequence of inflammation. Thats what you need to show somebody is healthy on a mixed macro diet. It doesn't exist. These are the actual arguments made by the low carb community. We are not claiming it to be the only way to lose weight.

@@kakefisk I would say you need to show how a cell without mitochondria, or with very little left can utilize fatty acids, and ketones. Either that, or show that they do not need energy. @@kakefisk If you want to make the case that eating no sugar alone doesn't stop them past a certain stage then that's fair, but it does slow them down. Why do you think diabetics have a higher incidence of cancer? You actually have cancer cells in your body right now though. Even if you do not have a tumor. The more sugar, the more the chance the situation can get out of control. This is the pg13 explaination, if we talk about how glucose can damage the mitochondria, and provoke a cell to become cancerous you would be deathly afraid of it. You should look at whats happening at Paleomedicina in Hungary. Glucose reduction is being used as an actual treatment there. It is also being used to help with other treatments everywhere else.
@kakefisk
@kakefisk 2 жыл бұрын
@@leinekenugelvondoofenfocke1002 diabetics having increased risk of cancer , if true, could stem from a multitude of different sources, as risk of diabetes, and overall health, is also impacted by a multitude of different factors. You know this. Just saying "because sugar" is just a god of the gaps fallacy until it has been demonstrated or shown causally. Reducing sugars in the diet does not necessarily slow down cancer in general, some types of cancer actually gets more aggressive as a response to a lack of available nutrients. I would love to know how you define "cancer cells", because i dont agree with that having cells that didnt replicate flawlessly (ref hallmarks of cancer) is the same as having cancer cells in the body. If anything i'd wager that the factors that cause mitrocondrial dysfunction is independent of sugar intake.

Im not anti sugar but in general drinking sugar REGULARLY isnt ideal for most people. Or I would recommend to most to cut them out, accept for occasional craving or use as an aid for recovery if desired. Why, I dont think its good for your teeth and its mostly empty calories so unless you have trouble getting your desired cals in, its best reduced. I think junk food is better then soda tbh - like salt, protein, and animal fats still have various nutritional benefits and gives you a full feeling. Is there no leucine in a quarter pounder? I do think you can easily overeat fruit too. I was born on an island with mangoes and bananas among other fruits, I have enough personal experience to say you can overeat fruit. Apples I agree with that there is a limit and usually around 1 but if I have access to an undimmed amount of grapes or mangoes, yes they can be overeaten . You can develop cavities, obesity, and diabetes with fruit being your only/main source of sugar. But I do agree with the sentiment of the video. Personally I see fruit as a way to appetite myself especially if tired and probably the best desert to include on a regular occasion. Occasionally Ill have like a mocha, sometimes a smoothie, rarely a gatorade, and soda super rare. Really ice cream and milk shake are my go to cravings which can range from three days in a row to three times a year. In general i think worrying about this or that as compulsively as many do is probably more unhealthy then the potential stress of what they are worrying about. Chronic anxiety is worse then fruit and the occasional sugary drink imo.
@Janmann2007
@Janmann2007 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say you can easily overat while you're consuming fruit regularly. But it's likely not the fruit that's the issue. And while it's anecdotal to some degree, this is coming from someone with weight issues in the extremes in the past and is consuming a lot of fruit daily. I LOVE bananas, mangos, apples, grapes, melons all sorts of berries basically all fruits. I'd even go so far as to say that fruits is the one food group that keeps me sane. My blood sugar is amazing. I feel energetic. I don't slow down during the day due to digestion. I'm as full as I can reasonably be (considering the issues that I had). On the overating. I eat fruit by the pound almost daily. I eat more fruit than I have ever seen anybody else eat fruit. However, even I don't eat 15 bananas in one day. I could, but I don't. I eat a lot of apples during the day, usually 3 to 5. But I don't eat 15 or more. Why is that? Probably a variety of reasons. Fruit doesn't give me massive cravings. I want to eat fruit, I like eating fruit, but I'm not going insane over not eating it. It also doesn't HAVE to be inhuman amounts. It's filling amounts, certainly that's kind of the goal here - but I'm not completely overdoing it. And if I did - 15 bananas likely isn't even 1500 calories worth of food. I need about 3500 cals at maintenance on a regular day. So there's this massive amount of bananas with all the volume and fiber coming along with it and I'm not even halfway through my daily calories. And even if I did overconsume calories that day it a) either won't be by much or b) it won't have been the bananas that were the issue here. And going even further: Overeating is only really a problem if you're doing it regularly. Maybe I do eat 15 bananas in one day, then. Am I going to do it every day? Certainly not. Again, fruit usually doesn't come with massive cravings like donuts, cake, pizza, fries and such, which people don't usually get sick of. I'm just going to go ahead and assume that if you're consuming 100 bananas over the course of a week, almost certainly will every single person be absolutely sick of it. Actually my main issue with this theoretical approach to overeating bananas would be digestion due to all that fiber. EAT FRUIT. It's chockful of healthy shit. It fills you up. It gives you some energy. It's sweet! It goes great with almost anything. It does actually improve digestion if you don't eat insane amounts.
@jarldue123
@jarldue123 2 жыл бұрын
@@Janmann2007 I mean, technically you can overeat on almost anything, 15 bananas would actually net you around 1500 calories. But the question is not "Can you overeat", the question is, "If you just eat normally, will you overeat". Put a bowl of 10 apples in front of yourself, and then a bowl with an 200 grams of candy, I know which one is most likely to be eaten.
@Janmann2007
@Janmann2007 2 жыл бұрын
@@jarldue123 Not sure what you think I'm saying but I'm saying the exact same thing as you. You CAN technically overeat on fruit, but it's a) highly unlikely and b) highly unsustainable (like, on a mass phase almost nobody could keep up a 8-12 week surplus with heavy emphasis on fruit). And even if you are not able to moderate fruit intake and do overeat - again, hypothetically, as it's highly unlikely 98% of the population would even get this far - , it's just not nearly as bad. If I completely overeat on bananas while eating normally otherwise I'm going to max out at like 4000-4500 calories AT WORST while overeating on pizza and cake I know from my own experience I can easily hit 10000+ cals in a day for an extended period of time and only that one is an actual problem.

I think he is making a mistake comparing a fruit GI like "oh this fruit has a lot of sugar but the GI is low!" like yeah, but fruit also has a lot of other things like fiber that isn't present in most cereals and other sugary things. The fructose glycemic index thing is incredibly stupid because most humans have enzymes called aldolaseB and fructokinase in liver cells which allow us to catabolise fructose for energy without conversion to glucose. Plus fructose does not trigger insulin release and fructokinase is not repressed by insulin unlike the corresponding enzyme for glucose. However fructose absorption reduces markedly in the absence of dextrose, so it's better to eat fruits rather than sugar.

Completely agree with the video. With fitness and nutrition in general, everything needs to be in moderation. I wanted to just add one thing. I think the biggest potential set back with sugar is consuming in excess and then lack of movement. Because these are such fast digesting foods, consuming and then sitting for hours is a huge mistake and I think it is a leading cause of obesity; not the sugar itself but sugar without movement. I am not necessarily talking about the low GI fruits but candy and junk. Hopefully this makes sense - just wanted to emphasize the significance of getting off your ass lol

No one seems to really know for sure, but there are several theories: 1)It is a bad imitation of Bela Lugosi and his Romanian accent in Dracula (1931). 2) Lugosi actually said “He wants Bluuuuuuuuuuud!” in the musical satire Vampire Over London (1952) Also the film includes the Allen Sherman comedy song My Son, The Vampire, which opens with “blood!” being screamed in a strange way that sounds rather ‘bluh’ like.” 3) Comedian Gabriel Dell was playing Dracula on The Steve Allen Show (TV Series 1951-1957) and said, “bleh, bleh, bleh”. From there on, it was history. 4) In the 1960s, Lenny Bruce did a parody of Dracula as a Yiddish man, and the Eastern European accent may have made blood sound a bit like “bluh.”

You are 100% correct this video is delusional and TERRIBLE advice in the sense that assumes everyone is a perfectly calorie-counting discplined machine. 99.99% of the population are NOT counting calories that's why say 800 calories from sodas are HUGELY different from 800 calories from apples(with all the fibre), which in turn are different from 800 calories from say nuts. Saying high carb works on calorie counting diets it's hugely irrelevant so much so that even mentioning it is kinda stupid except for professional athletes or bodybuilders that count calories satiety and letting your body self regulate food with hunger is MASSIVELY important
@JoshBenware
@JoshBenware 2 жыл бұрын
@@Goriaas it's nobodies fault but your own that you lack the ability to listen. He said multiple times in the video that calories must be equated, and even addressed the fact that people eat junk food that isn't satiating that is generally a mixture of sugar and fats. The only people this video is dangerous to are the people that are dangerous to themselves (probably much like yourself)
@Goriaas

@@JoshBenware I stand by what I say not cautioning against highly processed carbs is irresponsible. Of course you won't gain weight on a junk food diet if you properly count calories(which 99.99% of the population don't), but it's unhealthy anyways even if you don't gain weight. sugar from whole fruits is fine and he said as much. That was the only good part of the video. Fatty and high carb junk foods(french fries, chips, donuts) are bad too but sugar without protective fiber is the worst offender period. Sodas have no fat and moderate calories but they are the worst "food" in circulation. Of course they won't kll you outright but drinking 20oz of soda a day is pretty similar to smoking when it comes to health deterioration and years of life expectancy lost. There are plenty of studies on it. If this video was called "are 5 cigarettes a day ACTUALLY bad for you" people would lose their shit rightfully so....
@JoshBenware
@JoshBenware 2 жыл бұрын
@@Goriaas to be fair, he never did say drinking coke is healthy. However, comparing it to smoking is on the other extreme end of reasoning. Eating healthy is optimal to being the healthiest you can be. Eating not so healthy while keeping health markers in check is not optimal, but most elderly people have done just fine despite it.

Helpfull vid. What about added/white sugar?
@gummixx6885
@gummixx6885 2 жыл бұрын
The glucose part of white sugar is not problematic at all, it goes from the gut straight to the muscles where it gets metabolized. The problem lies with the fructose part of sugar, the body NEEDS to metabolize it first in the liver which is perfectly fine up to a point. But endless bombardment of fructose all day, every day causes NON ALCOHOLIC FATTY LIVER DISEASE. Dr. Robert Lustig covers this pretty well.
@JezzaN1
@JezzaN1 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely a good 1 dimensional approach, however an important distinction needs to be made between the numerous beneficial phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals in fruit alongside the fructose content vs a candy bar with the same amount of sugar, as well as the fibre found in fruit which slows digestion. This also doesn't really take into account the lack of 'real' nutritional value of sugar itself, and detrimental effects on your teeth, but overall people in general could be a little less carb-phobic.

@therealfitshorty
@therealfitshorty 2 жыл бұрын
@@mihailmilev9909 I think you need to watch the video again. Sugar itself is not bad. Fructose, glucose and sucrose are slightly different chemical bonds because they come from different sources, aka fruit, milk and something like table sugar, but are all monosaccharide carbohydrates that your body uses and stores relatively the same. One is not worse than the other. They are all carbs that your body uses for energy or stores for later usage. It's overeating macronutrients that causes weight gain/fat gain and more serious diseases like heart disease, diabetes, etc. derive from multiple factors, not just one. So sugar is not THE single cause for heart disease. Overeating, excess body fat, poor cardiovascular health, poor nutrient consumption effect things like vascular health, which makes it harder for blood to be delivered to tissues, which makes your heart have to pump harder to deliver blood and is ultimately stressing the heart more, which could cause a heart attack. Serious diseases are multi-factorial. I recommend you check out kzfaq.infovideos for in-depth videos on nutritional science.

When you are eating 400 plus grams of carbs as a bodybuilder then eating high fructose fruit is a no go. I stick to strawberries, blueberries and kiwis for micros but less of the fructose. At times I'll add bananas for extra potassium but not consistently as I eat potatoes every day. I'll stick to powerrade for my intra carbs as it sits better in my stomach than say a banana which alot of people still eat pre intra or post workout.

The claim I often hear for people in the rehab setting (DPT here) is that it is pro-inflammatory. Thoughts?
@KotaTiGaSmota
@KotaTiGaSmota 2 жыл бұрын
I think the pro-inflammatory effect is simply from the amount of excess weight/food in people who eat a lot of sugar and aren’t physically active/do not control their calories. I’ve seen a lot of bloodwork from either obese or lean individuals and the obese individuals almost always have high inflammatory markers. While in people who are not obese(they don’t even have to be lean-just not obese) inflammation is rarely elevated and is caused by an underlying condition, even after a day of binging on “cheat” food. Again I think, it is the caloric control over long periods and not letting yourself get in an insulin resistant and heightened visceral fat state.
@actuitivevisrl1014
@actuitivevisrl1014 2 жыл бұрын
@@KotaTiGaSmota I believe you're conflating two different sources of inflammation. Yes, obesity etc can be inflammatory but so can too many refined carbs, regardless of weight, at least I believe that's what the JDBD was referring to, as opposed to body composition based inflammation etc. Anecdotally eliminating refined carbs made a difference to my joint pain, and I've never been overweight. I'd like to know more about the science behind why this is although I have a theory that it's multifactorial and will vary with immune system, genetics, cytokinetics, and microbiome. For the record I have nothing against sugar in moderation.

I think the video might want to make a clearer distinction that this is specifically meant for those who are more extreme and think ALL forms sugar are bad the body. Should make a clearer point that sugar sources that has good nutrition density and fiber is pretty damn good choices for safe, go-to sugar fixes and more moderation for the more junky stuff. I think this would help guide folks who are curious but don't actually hate or even really like their sugar. My concern as a relative beginner to fixing dieting habits is watching this then have some room to misinterpret the video as a sort of a misguided justification for current sugar consuming habits (thanks, confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance). I think I have a bit of a sweet tooth, if this was me watching this 3 or so years ago before I started fixing my diet and watching my calories, I'd see my fruit juice, sodas and ice creams to be totally fine and will keep consuming them on the regular, because I really disliked fruits since I didn't know how good they are for you.

@@Danuxsy if you're consuming sugars around training at the appropriate time & in the appropriate quantities, it really isn't that deep whether you choose added sugars or natural sugars particularly if the GI score is similar. The main difference are the added benefits(micronutrients) you would get from fruit for example making it a superior options vs a biscuit/bar. Some natural sources of sugar (some fruit for example) have a high GI score too so obv looking at GI score is probably a better option, & we usually need high GI foods if we're training intensely&need to top up depleted glycogen stores + especially if we're training again in less than 24hrs in which case topping up these stores asap post training is important&a high GI option would be good for this. I'm qualified in advanced sports&exercise nutrition so I understand it alot better now. I was very OCD&EXTRA about ALL sugars, including fruits with a low GI score not realising that other foods without "added" sugars like corn, white rice, boiled white potatoes etc. also have a high GI score & whatever is left over/unused is stored as glycogen regardless anyway! Now I take a moderate approach&consume the sugar that is needed around training & if that means it's abit of added sugar then so be it. I generally eat more fruit now vs before as I'd still like the additional micronutrients & try to stay in check w/myself to ensure I don't obsess too much as I've actually seen a benefit of sipping on maltodextrin & even pure glucose powder too during and after training when it comes to energy+recovery,&on those days total sugar could be as high as 60g total including EVERYTHING which is fine since it isn't every single day & my training sessions are long & very intense + I keep active (how else are you meant to progress+make gains if you aren't fuelling yourself properly?) I would not have done this back when I became obsessed over it. If I had more than 25g of total sugar a day , it felt like the end of the world which is a terrible mindset to have, particularly when your body NEEDS it ! Common sense, active individuals who train more than 5+hrs a weeks need more than the average person so we need to keep that in mind & we also have more room to manoeuvre w/how much we have than an inactive individual does since we're using what we consume. Either way, balance is key 👌🏼

If your cutting or maintaining your weight what you eat is not that important if you getting all the micronutrients that your body needs. But if you are in surplus i think that is not that simple. Because if you're in surplus your body is anabolic it stores what you eat in muscle and fat cells. Fats store as fats way easily than carbs in bulking phase for that reason its better to eat high carbs and low fats (there is a research that they compare who eats high fats versus who eat high carbs in a cheat day and people who eats high fats stores much more body fat than who eats high carbs). as we know fructose metabolises in liver and result of that triglycerides occur and will likely to stored as fat in our fat cells. Am i wrong ? please correct if im wrong

Sugar is lightning, the body needs energy however sugar is just so powerful that the body can't handle it well in large amounts. That's not to say sugar is bad period, sugar in reasonable amount and with a balanced diet can have it's place in your lifestyle, especially with people who practice heavy workouts or who suffer from hypoglycemia. But for the general population, think of it as a guilty pleasure here and there, for you ALWAYS have enough of it.
