What is the type I Carano? Some say it is the best Carcano ever developed. Some say it’s what the Italians should have went to during World War Two. But even though the Italians never went to this platform, is it still pretty good? What about compared to a Carcano M1891 or a Type 38 Arisaka? Here is some of the history and other information regarding the unique Carcano Type I.

Thanks for the shoutout! Here’s the video referenced on the Type I: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jpypg82K1M2tfX0.htmlsi=mYUKn7aG6UxEew30 There is still much research to be done on the rifle as many of the source materials are in Japanese but a few Japanese researchers active in the community have provided a new narrative about its origin.

Fantastic rifles. The Italians had already committed to the enbloc. Had they upgraded the M38 to an internal box mag it would’ve been perfecto. This and the beretta modello 38 prove Italians could make great weapons.

A famous quote from someone whose name escapes me: "Amateurs talk about strategy. Professionals talk about logistics." Italy had already suffered a near-disaster logistically when they decided to switch from 6.5 to 7.5 mm ammo in 1938. Luckily for them, the Winter War broke out and the Italians were able to sell all those 7.5 mm rifles and ammo to the Finns, who made good use of them. Ditching the en-bloc system would have been a similarly boneheaded move. Cheers! Splice.

I got one myself and I will say it’s very pleasant rifle to shoot however it shoots much higher with factory ammo than any of my carcanos, I do plan making some reloads to see if that brings it closer to the point of aim

Are you using the sight like a carcano or are you lining up the notch on the rear sight even with the front sight?

@@DelGTAGrndrs I tried it even at first but found I was hitting 2ft above the target, then I buried the front sight and aimed to where the waist would be and found it hitting directly on target, but in all it shoots a foot high

Such a dopey thing that Italy didn't just go to this completely, and just ditch the en bloc system.

Italy would’ve had to replace millions and millions of rifles already in circulation, retrain millions of troops to use a system that was new to them, and retool every factory, right before a major conflict. Furthermore, the enbloc clip system was extremely efficient as it was intended for the Carcano so there was no real reason to drop it.
