Is The Goal to NOT Dream?

Some teachings suggest that dreams are a side effect of our cluttered minds, and that with continued mindfulness, you'll cease to experience dreams in the traditional sense. What does this mean, and does this mean the ultimate goal is NOT to dream? In today's video I discuss this concept and go into why I think this is a slight misunderstanding of a concept referred to as "Clear light dreams", that I've previously referred to on this channel as SILD, or the "Sleep Induced Lucid Dream".

David eagleman has proposed a very interesting theory that dreams are simply our brains way of stoping the visual cortext from being taken over from other brain regions. Not sure if I'm fully convinced but it is definitely an interesting theory worth attention.

3:30 I’ve experienced this without rigorous or intense mindfulness practice and/or extensive meditation sessions. All I do is set the intention to “experience the void” before drifting off to sleep. Or I can enter this void state through a lucid dream by setting an intention. Except mine isn’t a “clear light” or white light space. My void is vast endless and completely pitch black darkness. I can also induce a lucid dream at will from this point or choose to wake up if I want. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The same thing happened to me...I just focused on the blackness behind my eyes for 2 minutes, and suddenly I was thrown in! (as consciousness) there is only black space and my normal daily consciousness... not do meditation or anything, I went out because I don't know what it is. one important observation: when I got "there" I had no information about where I came from! as if that information was cut off from this 3d world. because the astral does not belong to the 3d world at all! as I heard...is that it?, I mean the road to Astal, what next? I am a person without visualization.

I tried wbtb and the dream started in the bed, before this ,i got a sleep paralyse and went to lucid dream, but there was no white light just the fact that i was dreaming. And i also talked to my classmate in school earlier and he said that he has very rearly dreams where he stand in just a white room/space and he said it needs much concentration to imagine something. But he dosent seem mindful to me,he is always thinking. Can you explain that to me?

3:48 "sleep induced lucid dream" is a misleading term, since sleep does not induce lucidity, conscious or lucid NREM is a more suited term, also it's NOT dream induced lucid dreams, it's dream INITIATED lucid dreams, I can't believe after years of you teaching lucid dreaming, you still get established terminology incorrectly, you really need to do your research with reliable sources because there's a lot of misinformation about lucid dreaming online, not trying to be mean but I have to call out misinformation, Have a good day

Appreciate the comment! I chose sleep induced lucid dream because I think to me personally "lucid NREM" conjures an image of someone becoming lucid during one of their NREM periods, while this experience of (perhaps it could be better described as "lucid sleep") involves a constant state of lucidity that seems to pass from closing ones eyes to awakening in the morning, rather than a sudden lucidity at some point. That's just my personal choice of words though, and something I've said a few times when discussing what I call SILD is that there's probably a million better names for it, which I encourage anyone to use, but I've been describing it as SILD now for a good number of years so that's the one that's stuck with me. As far as DILD goes - yes, I'm aware DILD was coined as Dream Initiated Lucid Dreams, and WILD as Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams, but in my 15 years lucid dreaming I've seen initiated and induced used interchangeably since day 1, and I too use them this way and think it's okay to use either, since the meaning is the exact same, as are the initials. It's similar to if someone came up with a technique called ALD for Assisted Lucid Dreaming and someone else called it Aided Lucid Dreaming - nothing wrong with that, same initials, same meaning. But I have mentioned before on my channel a few times now that the original terms used "Initiated" rather than Induced, and I just use both.

@@Tipharot I respectfully disagree, while initiated and induced seem synonymous they don't mean the same thing with lucid dreaming and a quote from Daniel Love's "WILD: The Crucial Error That Immediately Signals a Bad Lucid Dreaming Teacher" article, he explains the distinction perfectly "For example, pressing play on your remote control initiates (starts) a horror film. This action sets the film in motion. However, it is the scary storyline within the film that induces (causes) fear in the viewer. The nuance here lies in the causal relationship of each term: initiating begins the process, while inducing causes the resulting effect. Incorrectly using "induced" instead of "initiated" in the context of WILD or DILD implies that being awake or being in a dream state causes a lucid dream. This interpretation is clearly illogical and shows a fundamental misunderstanding of lucid dreaming." I recommend reading the full article, again not saying you're a bad lucid dream instructor, but you have a responsibility to correct things and give accurate info when you have large following.

@@San37815 I actually had the same problem with initiated that he has with induced - to me "wake initiated" could imply either that something was initiated while awake (correct), or that something was initiated DUE to waking up (incorrect), just as wake induced could be read as induced by waking up (incorrect) or induced while awake (correct). Neither term is in my eyes semantically infallible, and to me the reason to use one or the other doesn't come down to semantics at all, but to: correctly quoting the original source material (in the case of Initiated), or making material available to a larger audience (in the case of Induced - as Wake Induced Lucid Dreams and Dream Induced Lucid Dreams are searched ~5x and ~2x more respectively than Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams or Dream Initiated Lucid Dreams). To me my goal is to teach people to lucid dream, so I'd rather use the more commonly used and searched variation of the term, as that'll allow more people to find these videos and learn - but I also do agree that the official term is "initiated", and state as much in my videos every so often when it comes up.
