Forget plush....Lets invent lightweight mountain bikes again. I don't mean 25 pounds, i mean sub 20 pound full suspension bikes, at sub $5,000 prices. I could care less about super burley, i only weigh 140. I want to bikes to be lighter than they were in 1997, not heavier!

XC is the most accessible form of MTB. Manufacturers would benefit from advancing this category if they want to retain users especially as they get older and less willing to break themselves. Tan sidewalls are badass on 26” retro bikes 🤘🏽

So bit more info on the kashima coating. My understanding is that the molybdenum disulphide oil is embedded in the metelugic crystal lattice. So as the metal wears the oil is released limiting the wear that can occur. Therfore prolonging it. So close enough to what you said 🤣

21:15 in: Those SPIN wheels! I has one set from new, wore through the brake surface and couldn't get them repaired (company went out of business). The outer edge of the rim that mates with the tire actually peeled off the front rim about a third of the diameter after an unintentional hard rock strike on a fast fire road descent. Sad day, those were the best 26" wheels I've ever ridden.

I've never needed special tools to work on RockShox forks. the wiper seal press in pretty easily by hand with a piece of cutoff PVC pipe. That's about the most specialized tool I've needed. The old seals can be popped out easily with an appropriately sized wrench without much effort and no damage to the shock body. In fact, I just rebuilt my Pike this weekend. It's been a minute since I've had to rebuild my shock but I think I just made a vice clamp out of some wood I had lying around. Other than that, all you need is an oil filter strap wrench.

I want to like XC but it's difficult because so many XC riders on my local trail are huge egocentric A-holes. They act like they own the trail and nobody is allowed on it because their timed lap is more important than your enjoyment. Well, here in Europe, most XC guys are absolutely great people - like when I first started training XC more seriously, I started meeting people and without a single spoken word, just from riding by each other on occasion you start to greet each other, you go for a ride together, follow each other on strava and most important of all - you go for segments early morning, evening or when you are sure it's safe to do so. Also, no, you don't need to wear lycra to be a part of this community, in fact, all you need is a helmet. And the best part is our entry-level bikes don't cost 5k. And all you need to do, to not break the bike, is avoid those horribly designed large drops to flat and make sure that the frame limit weight isn't lower then your bodyweight and bam! You can have fun on all terrain.

I switched to and xc bike its a trade off. Its is great for long rides easier to get going and such but its less comfortable on steep down hills and I find it harder to get off n away from the bike in wrecks

#AskGMBNTech Why don't all seatposts use this mechanical operation? It seem far more simple. Easier service, less things that can break or fail. Also lighter.

@@user-ou3si8lx7t A coil in a fork is very heavy. I assume the engineers have tried 200mm spring droppers and they didn't work so well. Hence the 63mm spring dropper from DT Swiss.

They don't need to be that big and heavy anyway. Why do you keep reffering to the dropper lenght? I don't get your point.

Loved the top mod of the dropper post but led me to think I just use my finger, Which then led me to think of the old joke - The Americans spent millions of dollars developing a pen that could be used in space and upside down and on multiple surfaces. The Russians used a pencil.

If memory serves me right, it was John Tomac who was known as ‘the lung’ and Ned Overend was the first unofficial MTB world champion. He was referred to as the old man of MTB as he was some years older than the newbies on the scene in the late 80’s & early 90’s.

Might see a few broken cable that way though. I swear that I stared at that dropper post for 20 minutes. It's cool!

Hardtails make some trails that were perhaps built a number of years ago more fun as it brings back the technical tricky aspect whereas if you ride them on a full sus, the bike just soaks up the entire trail instead and you might as well be road biking! I own both type a and each have there specialties IMO. Also for xc you will want an efficient peddling hence all the hardtails
