An update on the Wendover Arm on the sections currently under restoration but with a CRT stoppage on

The Wendover Arm Canal, or Branch is part of the Grand Union canal and currently in Restoration in Various phases. In this video we look at the in water section from the start of Phase 1A. This takes us from Little Tring to the Aston Clinton Bypass, Passing Tring and Drayton Beauchamp as well as the old site of the old Whitehouses pumping station.
Canal restoration in the UK is looking good and this is a fine example of what can be achieved with good planning and support, support your local canal restoration either as a member or a volunteer. Links below for the Wendover Canal Trust, a truly exciting canal!

I plan to cover right into wendover, I’ve gone as far as Ashton Clinton bypass on older videos. The towpath is being relaid further down though so that’s one for later

Thanks Steve - yay.! for the graphic arrows.! 😁👍 You were wondering/hoping to see more water by the time of this visit. You've probably caught up by now (info not available when filming.?), but for others reading here, the Chairman's column in the Wendover Arm Trusts latest newsletter had some clues. He writes in there that all work has been on hold for around 7 weeks over the summer.! This has been due to CRT requirements for further successful groundwork test results, before any restoration efforts can restart. They're hoping for better news/resolution from them in the next few weeks. Great info about all the history of leakage problems with the chalk - and hope it is true it came from the Falklands...! PS - over 3K subs now... 🙂👏💪

I was disappointed to be honest but I understand why it’s empty, it’s just a shame as I know they have such exciting targets to get the whole line open. I’ve tried to do more research on the chalk from the faulklands but I’ll be honest I don’t have a clue what I’m looking for, I can’t even find the original article I read it in but it’s so cool if it is. Yes it hit 3K in the week! If it carry’s on at the same pace I should have 5K by December, that would be a great Christmas present, well unless anyone wants to buy me a boat

Thank's for a very informative update. Chalk is highly porous, so its not surprising water loss was such a major problem. Making the canal leak-proof is both time consuming and costly, one imagines. Is this a problem all the way to Wendover, or only in particular sections?
