This is reality in Gaelic Football! Since about 2021 teams started pushing goalkeepers out the pitch, first to press opponents goal kick, then eventually just to create overloads in possession. Many traditional goalkeepers have been replaced with former outfielders, who’ve maybe lost a yard due to age or injury.

@AV57
@AV57 Ай бұрын
@@wilder17the risk of giving up a goal late in the game is a small factor in the coach’s mind, because if they lose by 1 goal or 10 goals, it’s still just 1 loss, so the coaches don’t mind the risk at that point. @SuccimusPrime

@@wilder17the stats dont matter because even if the odds are 1% better to win, you try it. Tho a big factor is that goal difference doesnt matter in Hockey. I feel like City could genuinely do this with Ederson if Pep was brave enough. A lot of the players and staff (both current and former) speak highly of his technical ability on the ball, and there’s even a clip where players like KDB and Gundo mention that he is the best penalty taker at the club (and he recently took one against Madrid). I just think it’s an absolute dumb risk to take though because the counter attacks would most certainly result in a goal.

This is like in futsal with fly keeper and it is a commonly used tactic when losing in the later period of the game To explain, a normal goalkeeper shall be playing in goal but when they have possession a sub (not needing a board or anything) will be made where on on court player will come on (wearing a goalie kit) and will play in the opposition's half to have as many time and touches as they want. On the other hand , when out of possession, another quick sub will be made and the keeper will come on for the player. Etc ...

That’s exactly what teams do in hockey. If they’re down a goal, they’ll pull the goalie with about 2 minutes left in the game for an extra skater on the ice. It basically creates a 6 on 5. In hockey, it usually doesn’t work and sometimes for extremely specific reason (such as needing a better goal differential than another team to get into the playoffs) they purposely will take the loss instead of pulling the goalie. One of the reasons it doesn’t work well in hockey is because the rink isn’t that big, it’s 200 feet (60 meters) long. But, on a football pitch, it could actually be really effective assuming you can keep possession and lock down the wings.

In water polo this is actually common in the last minutes of a game. If a team is 1 or 2 goals down they’ll sub in a field player for the goalkeeper and they’ll play with a man up

He's proposing the extra attacker strategy from hockey into soccer. For those who don't know, in hockey, you can pull the goaltender for a different player, usually a fourth forward, if you're down in the game or else waiting on a delayed penalty. In down situations, it's a way to try to push for a win while giving up the defense of the goaltender. In delayed penalty situations, there's very little risk of being scored against so you might as well get another offensive scorer on the ice. Either way, it'd be a interesting thing to add to soccer.

Hockey already does that and it often ends up with an open net goal against you BUT when you’re going to lose anyway it’s worth the chance!

If you've ever seen hockey, they do exactly that. The only difference though is that hockey standings aren't reliant on goal difference so losing 1-0 and losing 3-0 is effectively the same result. But in soccer, goal difference matters a lot more. And considering that in hockey goalie pulls only work about 15% of the time, that means that to rescue that 1 point for a draw will likely cost you 6-7 extra goals in lost games. The only way I could see this being genuinely useful is in a cup competition or at the end of a league season where goal difference isn't a factor and you know for certain what you need.

this is pretty common in indoor football, where the gk gets subbed for a player with a gk shirt on, this is so you can play with a numeric advantage

So kinda similar to hockey in a way in which the final few minutes of the game the losing teams gains an extra player while having an empty net

Thats why Onana and Ederson are the best gks for an elite team, they have the passing ability of a midfielder with decent shot-stopping (best in the world occasionally for Onana)

This has been a thing in hockey for a very long time. In most games, in the last few minutes, if a team is down by 1 or 2 goals hey will basically always pull the goalie.

This is what they do in Ice Hockey. Almost every game ends with an empty net for the losing team while they try and chase the game. Hockey is played in a much smaller space but teams are really able to make use of the extra skater.

This is a pretty good idea in some situations, but I think that generally the trend will be for goalkeepers developing good enough passing skills that it’s not worth replacing them for a midfielder.
