Notifications and updates render the phone seemingly alive and/or sentient. Definitely seems interactive. Craving attention and affirmation of existence.

I can last several days without the smartphone (and then get told off by everybody because they couldn't reach me, haha!). I'm old enough to remember what it was like to not have a mobile phone and am, more often than not, nostalgic of those days. Somehow, I find solitude and silence more "addictive" than the phone and social media etc. (Whether that's right or wrong I do not know...).

I've not had a smartphone until about a year ago (my family wanted me to get one--I'm Gen X, so didn't grow up with this technological tether), and I'd not shed a single tear if I were to lose it. But I have plenty of other attachments to other modern contraptions (e.g., to my computer, books, CDs, etc.). Good reminder to work on shining the light on this to figure out how much my having these possessions benefits the world at large (other than as props for the ever-needy ego).

10 days camping in a field used phone only to record, but a year later addicted again a terrible psychological spiritual waste of time, so yes who can use them properly ie for research, e mail etc but not endless You Tubes, it destroys the mind eventually passive receptors to.. Help.
