I hadn't thought about polish. Something to bring up with my hygienist. I think I don't want to have my teeth polished. Thank you for this information.

I asked my hygienist not to polish my teeth anymore because it was causing sensitivity for days, & up to a week or so afterwards. They put a note in my ?patient profile? so the other hygienist would know, too. I was afraid to ask, as I thought it was a required step of the cleaning, but I guess it's really not. 😊👏

I’ve been using Himalaya Botanique toothpaste for a while and discovered they now have a hydroxyapatite toothpaste. I’ve seen your video on hydroxyapatite, but was wondering if you’ve reviewed/seen that brand?

What exactly. How to do it or talk about benefits/if it works?
@nothing-98
@nothing-98 14 күн бұрын
How to do it :- 1. Take a spoon full (1 tablespoon,may depend on the size of mouth) of any cold pressed oil (coconut, sesame oil ,castar oil but not refined oil or mineral oil). 2. swish it in your mouth for about 5 min to 15 min. 3. Spit it out in your garbage bag or drainage (it may block it in cold weather) Benefits:- 1. Reduces overall bacteria content in mouth 2. Improve facial muscles & blood circulation to mouth 3. Remove light staining 4. Helps in bad breath Other benefits :- (These benefits are seen in many people but I don't really understand how it works) 5. Helps in gum recession 6. Helps in removing early cavity 7. Detoxify blood through blood vessels in the mouth (this particular one is a claim). 8. Also helps in digestion (claimed too) Personally I have experienced all the benefits except 7(don't know if it works but my face acne and sinus blockage has reduced a lot). Tips:- 1. It could be done in the morning before brushing, generally after drinking water. 2. For cavity prone sesame oil + clove oil would be best but Coconut oil is already. 3. On the first day your facial muscles may be sore but Try it for a week. 4. If you can't swish it around for 5 min due to soreness, Try swishing for 5 sec and rest for 5 sec then repeat the cycle. To specify things it does not benefits me in any direct financial way or I don't own any oil producing factories 😊😊 For any other queries feel free to ask it out.😁😬

My friend has always had black spots on her teeth that don't seem to cause her any problems but she sometimes gets polishing to have them removed for cosmetic reasons. Have you ever seen this black teeth spot thing? I wonder if there's a better way of dealing with it than polishing.

I would try a hydroxyapatite toothpaste! It smooths out enamel imperfections over time, which are the culprit for collecting stain. May need to remove the stain professionally a few more times while using the toothpaste as it takes some time to smooth out those pores..

@@askahygienist interesting ok cool. I just started using Boka (dr. Jens doesn’t ship to Canada) so I’ll see how it goes and maybe I can convince her to join me if I get good results!

The hygienist at my dentist's office in Chicago does this 2 step process: She cleans my teeth and then polishes them, but the hygienist at my periodontist does both the cleaning and polishing in 1 step with a watery abrasive solution. I don't remember what it's called but I guess it's a new way or another way of cleaning and polishing teeth. I think it's just pressurised water with an abrasive in it. My dentist in Mexico also uses this new way. Have you heard about, seen, or used this new method? If so, what is your opinion on this new 1 step method?
@askahygienist

Air polish I believe is what you’re talking about. I’ve used it once in school haha. It’s a more effective/abrasive way to remove stain. Basically blasting some sand at your teeth. It makes sense to use at the periodontist because it can help remove some stain-plaque from deeper gum pockets, a common occurrence with periodontal patients. It’s not necessarily a “new method” it can just get pretty messy and sometimes uncomfortable to patients especially if the clinician blasts soft tissue like gums, so often times clinicians use alternate ways to clean teeth. No wrong answer here in my opinion, whatever the clinician is more comfortable and capable of using.

@@askahygienist Thanks for the info. I only assumed it was new because both the dentist in Mexico and the Periodontist in Chicago started using it about a year ago. When you mentioned "air polish", I remembered that it's called "Airflow" and it's a mix of air, warm water, and an abrasive material. You're right there is more overspray to the face so it's a bit more messy.

Polishing "is" the cleaning, for kids?
@askahygienist
@askahygienist 2 ай бұрын
Polishing helps remove soft plaque, which is what most kids have. It’s like taking an electric toothbrush to their teeth with gritty toothpaste.

umm, I can smell my own breath haha. you do have to breathe into your cupped hands to get a good whiff but definitely can smell it. if you can't smell your breath that way, it either 1) doesn't stink 2) your sinuses are clogged, or some other olfactory issue.
