You definitely have the best content on KZfaq! I’m a behavior modification trainer with over 40 years of experience. I’ve sent a bunch of clients to your online course. I have setters who i hunt as my personal dogs, but my first love is working and giant breed dogs. Most of my clients have either out of control malinois, shepherds, rotties, dobies or herding dogs. I would mention one other issue with adding an ecollar to inexperienced hands. The ecollar becomes another distraction for the handler. It’s why I don’t like clickers for handlers who have “inattentive dogs”. Of course inattention is a human problem, not a dog problem. Anything that splits the handler’s attention from the dog is a real negative in our quest to get people really communicating with their dogs! With some handlers with a real problem about staying “present in their dog’s moment”, even food rewards or a toy reward is too much distraction. Each handler is of course as different as each dog.
@hamiltondogtraining8 ай бұрын
That's an excellent point about being another distraction for beginner handlers. I totally agree! There are so many things to think about, pay attention to, and remember in the beginning, and it's overwhelming for many beginner handlers. Also, if you're interested, we just launched an affiliate program where you can provide a discount to your clients and earn a commission on each referral. I purchased a dog training program offered on FB, for about 300.00 dollars. this taught training for look, touch, and so on. I had minimal results. But I found watching your videos, way more informational and easier to follow. The price for your instructions is 4 or 5 times as much. I was wondering with the information you have already posted on these videos. What extra value would I get by paying for your lessons VS just watching all the videos you have made for anyone to see. I'm impressed with the way you explain the way a dog thinks, making it easier to understand why and what I probably doing wrong. Peace to you. .

The last point you made is the key, that the basic mechanics of training exist outside of the tools and if the dog and handler already know them then once you use the ecollar it's an easy transition. I have always thought about it as you teach to 80% then reinforce that last 20% with the ecollar.

I have 2 Aussies that I have spent years working on all the skills and commands. I was never able to break my oldest from jumping on people and my trainer said that there will always be a habit that you can’t break. This has been frustrating since they go to work with me, and clients come in. I have to lock the door and send them to station before opening the door. Additionally, my dogs have to sit before I open the door and walk outside and give them the go command so I can make sure the environment is safe. HOWEVER, lately my youngest who is 3.5 YO has started bolting out of the door when they are released and runs behind the building chasing squirrels. Not only am I a wild banshee chasing him screaming, while my other is going the opposite direction. I am not sure where I went wrong. I purchased e collars because I wanted to be able to correct issues when I have them going in different directions but the more videos I watch, the harder it is to figure out where to start. Working them at home or at the office with no distractions = perfect dog. I am trying to introduce the e-collar and now I am not sure that is what is needed. HELP.

Can you please start posting more ecollar video in relation to leash reactive aggression?
@lisabadger33996 ай бұрын
So, e-collar training is not for correctional training? The impression I am getting is that it is only for enhancing the training of a dog who's on leash training is tip-top.

Man I have seen all your videos in one day. They are very, very helpfull. Can you suggest any e-collar with a resonable price? Or what kind of e-collars to avoid
@learning2no2 ай бұрын
I have heard that the inexpensive e-collars are very dangerous because they don’t always stop the stimulation once you release the button, or it increases the stimulation on its own. Many of my clients have said how they don’t trust the inexpensive e-collars.

My aussie is so reactive that he's dislocated my shoulder more than once and caused tears in my rotator cuffs. I'm at the point where I can't hold on to anything but a loose leash anymore, it's tough to break out of this! So much of getting control of a leash reactive dog and helping them find alternative (better) choices involves some sort of leash correction or pulling and I just can't. D:

I have a pitbull mix who is one year old. She has kinda lost her mind. Im scared she is going to hurt someone real bad. She has killed two opposom and a cat. Tried to kill a little cat but i was able to protect the cat from poppie. She does not like very many people. She will and has bitten people. She reacts absolutly lightening fast in her reactivity. She is very syrong and can be single minded when she is about something. I call her felon and killer. But not to her face. She barks and growls at Everything. Many tell me she is a lost cause. But i know popie. She is a complete a sweet heart. I think something is going on with her that can be redeemed. The whole story is ...I Am The Problem(and problem solver) I Need Training. I need help right away. She is out of control sometimes. My older dog got an attitude now too. Im desperate to make changes. Dont know where to start. Please help me get started

Do you recommend using a retractable leash after obedience to simulate off leash walking?
@hamiltondogtraining8 ай бұрын
Yes you can, or you can drag a long line
@anonymous7.6276 ай бұрын
It was just the difference between luring with food and not luring with food. The dog didn't do a magic transformation. Vid 1, no food, vid 2, constantly feeding.... take away the expectation of food reward and see what happens.

An electronic collar is not a prong collar and not an 'electric collar from the early 1990s... An electronic collar is just another tool to use and is NOT an aversive tool. That is part of why a professional trainer needs to explain and show you how to use an electronic collar.
@ragdollyally8 ай бұрын
To declare it’s “NOT an aversive tool” is either disingenuous or misinformed - it doesn’t have to be but it certainly can be and is an extremely effective tool for instilling AVERSION TO livestock - the proposed ban on e-collars is of massive concern in the UK for this reason as livestock graze freely on public land (‘common’ land as it’s called) - without being able to instil aversion to livestock chasing in highly prey driven dogs, those dogs are going to be confined to leash for life.
@greatmack12658 ай бұрын
i have an Akita whos prey drive is through the roof we have an e collar shock collar its looking like i will be having to use it soon as i've tried everything Akitas are super stubborn he's my second Akita i know the breed my last one could not be let off the lead.
@BigBADSTUFF698 ай бұрын
I'm 100% a fan of the collar and use them, but it's absolutely aversive. I think were you are confused is that you can use an aversive to promote a behavior i.e. for positive or negative punishment. But it works because the dog doesn't like the feeling. And that's perfectly ok because you are literally telling the dog that you do this and this is uncomfortable.
@Lil_Kumquat8 ай бұрын
@@ragdollyallyagree it definitely can be used for aversion. I like people are scared to use that word and so they try and down play that concept with the ecollar🤷🏽♀️
