June 8, 1989 - Mired in first-half foul trouble, Detroit Pistons point guard Isiah Thomas bounced back to score 19 of his 21 points in the second half to clinch a 108-105 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2 of the 1989 NBA Finals. Thomas also chipped in seven assists and one gash over his left eye (3:25), resulting in a blood soaked jersey for the duration of the fourth quarter. I was 10yrs old watchin this back then an I'd Go Crazy Everytime He scored Then id reenact watever he Just Did in the Game lol Family an Friends Musta thought I was Crazy Ha But Seriously He was Awsome an Clutch as it gets an like i said I tryed an mimicked his Game the Best I Could an the Fact that he was a streaky player is Somethin I think maybe i aquired from watching him in my own game as id get in Streaks of my own as I played HS Ball an or just 3 on 3 tournaments..Not to toot my own Horn but this one time we were Down in a 3 on 3 tournament an was about to get sent packin for Home untill I pulled a Isiah out my u Know wat as I preceded to score the next 7 buckets in a Make it Take it game i Knocked Down 4 3's in a Row to end the game from the Top of the key as a older guy who was guarding me kept dareing me an tellin me i couldn't an Boy I made Him Look Dumb lol an for the next hr we was the talk of the tourney cuzz this little younger 14yr old guy Just beat these older bigger guys an knocked them out the tourney Ha..THAT ONE WAS FOR YOU ZEKE!!!! Magic pulled a hamstring because all 3 DETROIT guards took turns exploiting his weak defense. Folks need to stop acting like he was a difference maker in this series. DETROIT won all 6 games that year against LA and won 9 of the previous 13.

Right after Isaiah Thomas scored his first points on game 2, A.C. Green and Michael Cooper got technical fouls. They got into it with Rick Mahorn.

They won both regular season games with Magic and Scott. They dominated Game 1 and Magic played. They were tied in Game 2 when Magic left. The injuries were a excuse. 1988-1989 LA versus DETROIT. DETROIT 6 LOS ANGELES 0

L.A. should've won this game. They were in control of a large part of it. Pistons had ugly win in this one. If Magic Johnson had stayed healthy, Pistons still would've won, but not in a 4-game sweep.

What were they calling on Magic at 0:58 then? I wasn't born till 94 and didn't grow up seeing that brand of basketball. I've seen video's where they allow it but then I've seen ones like that play and a few other ones where they call it. Just kind of confused.

They "Got away with it" on paper. When there were big games during the regular season and the playoffs the kinda didn't enforce it all that much, especially when a player played with their back to the basket. It didn't fully go away culturally until the mid-2000s.

+KobeConfidence;you COULD,until Stern outlawed it completely in 1990 to ENABLE Jordan to move past Detroit!! At same time outlawed zone defenses!!! Jordan needed NBAs ASSISTANCE to beat Detroit!! LA wasn't fortunate to win Game 6 in 1988 with a BS call or Game 7 when the Lakers and Fans came on the floor in a one possession game and Detroit had the ball?

@@frankbj1152 exactly. In 1988, the Lakers NEEDED a Phantom Foul, Isiah's ankle injury and the refs swallowing their whistles when everyone ran on the court when Detroit had the ball in a one possession game.
