It’s so weird because when it’s Christianity it’s “yea you’re awful and clearly wrong and backwards” but when it’s Islam it’s “oh it’s just a different culture” but it’s so difficult because criticising islam puts you in a trap of being called “racist” and “imperialistic” because Islam is so much more deeply rooted into Middle Eastern culture that it’s difficult to distinguish the two as separate things

What is currently seen as "traditional" muslim custom, is actually an invention of the recent times. I don't want to claim that its all just a misunderstanding, but we need to realise that Islamism is NOT a traditional way of living but in fact a deeply modern reactionary movement, targeting people who actually know very little about their own traditions (western muslims and convertites are probably the easiest targets)

Abigail Harp In Saudi Arabia having sex outside of marriage is punishable by law (straight or gay) but you have to have Four witnesses in order to be proven guilty, this law comes DIRECTLY from shariah but, rape is punishable in Saudi Arabia unfortunately most assaults happen with in families and there’s a huge stigma attached to reporting any assault not only by a family member. So most times rape just goes unpunished if the family didn’t honor kill the daughter to wash her shame away
@MFYouTube683

Abigail Harp I’m reading a very good book on that topic by Lebanese-born author Ralph Ghadban. He lives in Germany and teaches at a University in Berlin as an expert on Muslims, Islam and the sociocultural consequences of their migration to the west. Here’s a link to the book. It is called «Tarik Ramadan and the Islamisation of Europe». It explains the history of Islam and Muslim societies and compares it to the development of Christianity and Judaism, explaining how philosophers dating back to Aristotle have impacted these processes of emancipation into enlightened, rational society or rather lack thereof in the case of Islam and how attempts by Islamic scholars to do the same in Muslim society were silenced and / or killed along with their work. Tariq Ramadan lives here in Switzerland in the city of Geneva, so for me, a Swiss citizen, this was of even greater importance to read, but Ramadan is so widely influential in many countries and the book explains very well why Islam is «backwards» in many ways - seen through a westerner’s eyes - that it’s an educating read for all of us living in secular democracies that were mostly built by a society rooted strongly in some form of Christianity and Judaism. I also recommend Alex o’ Connor’s KZfaq channel CosmicSkeptic, he’s a brilliant young English lad, an atheist studying Philosophy and Theology in Oxford to basically debate these topics with arguments based in a deep understanding of the subject matter. en.qantara.de/content/book-review-ralph-ghadban-tariq-ramadan-and-the-islamization-of-europe

Every Muslim imam / Shiekh (Muslim priest), tells the Muslim community that homosexuality is not a sin when it comes to the feelings, however the act is the sin. This conversation needs to be had more often. I believe that this video paints a very realistic picture on how’s it like for LGBT people and for women to be brought up in Islamic countries. Ignoring the problem and never talking about it in fear of offending Muslims is not a good tactic and it does more harm to the minorities in these countries than just being “offensive “ encouraging the Islamic mentality not speaking against it is harmful to people in these groups
@daivahataka
@daivahataka 3 жыл бұрын
There's also the argument that blind faith is worthless, and while not perhaps the goal of such conversations getting people to consider why they feel a certain way or believe a certain thing can help strengthen then faith so the religious leaders should actually encourage it. But then I'm often baffled by the hostility to drawings of "Mohammed" when no-one actually knows what he looked like, and so all people need to do is say "I don't know who that is but it is not my Mohammed". I typically think of the famous scene from Spartacus but with them saying "I'm Mohammed" instead. 😅 Heck look at how many people think that Jesus, who was born and raised in the middle east, was white and that he was nailed to the cross through his hands and feet, not the wrists and feet.

Also I bet you would be surprised by the lifestyle in Istanbul - Turkey an islamic country... and how many Egyptians are atheists... anyway all of the comments, video etc is a reflection of US centrism and lack of knowledge about other cultures to be honest 🤷‍♀️. Thank you Arielle. You never shy away from telling it as it is! I would love a video about the forced transitions on gay men in Iran. The state pays for them to not have gay men in their society. There was a tragic, heartbreaking incident in my country (Switzerland) last year in the picturesque Emmental, that gives the famous cheese its name: Pstiwan, a 17-year old Kurdish Muslim boy was almost killed by his own father, when he tried to cut his son’s throat in their family home for being gay. The boy, bleeding heavily, jumped out the window and ran to his neighbours who called emergency services. Pstiwan was flown to the hospital, where he had to be put in a coma so the Doctors could perform emergency surgery to save his life. His father almost cut his carotid artery, his trachea was injured. When you think about the fact that religion and state in most Muslim countries are very interwoven, how this religion’s cultural influence has consequences for gay people like Pstiwan - even after migrating to secular western democracies, there is no denying, that there is something wrong at the root of it all. Pstiwan decided to make his story public and was consequentially invited to several TV shows and KZfaq talks, most of them in Germany. What stunned me is, that he states the opinion, that from his perspective, Islam and homosexuality are clearly incompatible, and these superwoke TV hosts and debate participants just talk over him, always trying to emphasize the examples that show the «other truth», like that one mosque and Imam in Berlin that invite gay Muslims to prayer and what have you. I sat there and imagined what a teenager who almost died because his own FATHER cut his throat - all based on a stupid old book of partly insanely barbaric texts, must feel like when he gets told how super peaceful Islam is! 🤮 You can find numerous articles online about this. At first, his name was changed, but as he started appearing on TV, he began using his real name and has since come out as trans - voicing the wish to transition once he’s worked through the psychological trauma and after the screening doctors do here before getting on hormones (US take notes ... 😬). @pstiwi is his/her Twitter handle, if you want to follow the journey. The culture and tradition that are set in stone and lived/experienced by a very dominating majority 95%+ of Muslim societies are simply not compatible with being gay. It will take centuries to change that - if it is at all possible (example: German journalist Constantin Schreiber, clearly an open-minded liberal and fluent Arabic speaker wrote a book called The Mosque Report, detailing his visits to random German mosques and how shocked he was by the content of the Imam’s speeches in regard to living in the west, our culture, integration and core values of society). The political overcorrectness of politicians on the left, like our gay MP Angelo Barrile from the Social Democratic Party, refuse to address this because, it doesn’t support their political agenda. «hOmOpHoBia iS nOt a pRoBLeM iN oNLy OnE cULtUrE oR sPeCiFiC tO oNe» - agreed 100%. But the verbal and physical attacks which are not necessarily increasing in numbers but in severity are predominantly - and I’m talking in the realms of 90%+ - committed by young men of patriarchal migrant backgrounds and Muslims are clearly overrepresented while most attacks are directed at gay men and trans women. It will have to play out like the clan problem in Germany or the grooming gang epidemic in Britain (please watch Tommy Robinson’s Oxford Union Adress, it is a punch in the gut). The political climate in western nations is so explosive as the superwoke dictate the discourse through cancel culture to the point, where public figures especially in politics divert the issue, scared of losing their job and reputation until the problem is so obvious, so prevalent that you can’t deny it any more and we’re past the point of having the ability to react. Just an example: in Berlin, the district attorney had to change the law to seize 70 objects of real estate, that had been purchased with laundered money from one single family clan, active in organised crime with several thousand family members living in Germany. I am not an islamophobe - on the contrary! I have family in Tunisia who live a very progressive Islam but even there, homophobia causes problems. My Cousine just got divorced after being married for three years, because it turned out her husband was gay and lied about it. She says for her, him being gay is not the problem, there is an underground gay scene in Tunis and even in smaller urban centres like Sousse where you can live your sexuality if you’re careful. The problem is, that society and the laws are still homophobic enough, even in a westernised progressive Muslim country, that is governed democratically since the Jasmine Revolution, that the consequences lead to suffering for everyone. If you’re interested in these things, I really recommend the books by the gay English author Douglas Murray, an Oxford scholar who wrote my literary beacons of light in recent years «The strange Death of Europe» and the «Madness of Crowds». If you agree with Arielle’s content on Trans issues and other heavily politicised and omnipresent topics like the problem with Islam, they will be your read of the decade! Love you Arielle 💕

I worked for a small family business that hired mostly people from within their culture (Arab) who originated from countries throughout the Middle East. I soon learned that the thing they all had in common, was that they were Christian, and had fled to Canada to escape persecution in their own countries. Turns out that a lot of them hid their Christian faith in their home countries, and had to leave when they were ousted as it became too dangerous. The stories they told were heart wrenching. One of them told me a story about how they saw their Christian neighbours being dragged out of their house in the middle of the night, mother, father, and 8 year old daughter. They were beaten in the street, and then doused with gasoline and lit on fire.

Thanks for showing the fun fact that one can't shout "racism" when someone is critiquing religion, because it's not logic 💚 Fun fact: I studied sociology and at one point, in a seminar about racism and the connection to xenophobia,we were given a test to see if we were "having Muslim phobia", and back then I thought it was weird, because I scored to suffer from "Muslim phobia", because I crossed "yes" that I do believe this religion was surpressive towards women and homosexuals. I felt suddenly "guilty" and "uncomfortable" because I was raised in a humanitarian family and suddenly I was put in a corner from left winged teachers that I am xenophobic and probably an unaware racist. "The left" has changed. I used to call myself leftwing. I haaaated the rightwing. But the parties have flipped. Now its t he "right wing" who promote freedom and equal treatment under the law... And its the "left wing" who promotes tyranny, violence, racism, hate, etc.

@@terminsane Both the left and the right are way too vast to generalize. I consider myself a moderate liberal. The far-left keeps pushing me towards the center but I still identify as a liberal even though I acknowledge certain things like there are only two genders, gender is not a social construct, Islam is homophobic, and you shouldn't believe all women when it comes to accusations of sexual misconduct.
