This topic truly goes deep. As someone of Arabic descent raised in the West for decades, I've always marveled at how little is known about the glorious Islamic Arabic golden era. It seems this remarkable part of history has been largely forgotten even in our Arab collective memory, and I'm not just referring to the golden ages of Islam but also the earlier civilizations in the Arabian Peninsula which delivered humanity so much. Your discussions have inspired me to consider starting my own KZfaq channel.

Starting a KZfaq channel is one way to express something deeply rooted within me. I've carried this burden since i discovered the tree of my family.. Since then is it for me a calling I've dodged due to uncertainty on where to begin. Discovering your channel yesterday has ignited a spark of inspiration in me. Who is your favourite modern calligrapher? Personally i love Bin Qulander's work. The beautiful backgrounds which are art in them selves, then bold shaping of the letters accompanied by smaller flowing flourishes. And the use of empty space to accentuate the core and allow reflection over the piece as a whole. His work seems so much more dynamic and unique compared to other calligraphers

Thats a good question. I never thought of it. And when doing so I really cant say. I am more of a traditionalist in that sense. But that doesnt mean that I dont enjoy or admire more modern pieces. I checked out Bin Qulander and I see your explanations about compositional intensity about his work. I saw a lot of depth in this work.

اعتقد الخطاط الياباني فؤاد هوندا الذي تعلم الخط العربي في السعودية هو من نقل فنون الخط العربي لفن جديد دمج جمال الرسمة مع جمال الخط العربي فأنجز فن جديد مُبهر . اخي طارق، للتوضيح الخط عربي والأبجدية عربية ومسجل في اليونسكو كخط عربي من قبل الدول العربية .ومسيحيي العرب يستخدمون فنون الخط العربي في تزيين لوحاتهم، بينما المسلمين غير العرب يحاولون يحاولون نسب كل شيء جميل في فنون العرب وتاريخهم للمسلمين . الخط الكوفي التسمية الصحيحة هو الخط المدني وستجد أن الخط في اصلهُ مكتوب في جبال المدينة المنورة . لغير العرب اسهامات في تطوير اشكال وفنون للخط العربي بلا شك لكن هذا لا يخفي ولا يعمي بصيرتنا بأنها خط عربي وستبقى كذلك .

Can you truly have the art of calligraphy with an alphabet based writing system? Or is true calligraphy possible with Chinese writing??

The first question suggests that there is only one calligraphy out there. That’s not the case there are those that are based on an alphabet based system and others that follow a symbol based system. Both are calligraphy. Just a different means to a similar expressive end. The second question is a definite yes. As mentioned a symbol based calligraphy is still calligraphy. Beautiful! thank you. arabic is the most amazing of all languages that ever existed and that exist today. it is unlike any other. german neurologists found evidence using functional mri techniques that speaking and thinking in arabic involves activity of both the cerebral hemispheres unlike the indo-european languages. this gives arabic and its speakers a mindset that is capable to abstract thoughts that is not possible with any other language. pure, abstract imageless thoughts based entirely on words and their sounds can result in ideas that are nearly impossible with any other language. a single word or a single sentence in arabic can express something that will require pages and/or entire paragraphs in any other language. this is why there is nothing similar to the ideas of ibn arabi, rumi and innumerable sufi masters in human history to this day. the written arabic using calligraphy gives a glimpse of the richness that is present in the ideas expressed by spoken arabic. we see an amazing unification of language and geometry in arabic calligraphy. this is also seen in the arabic/islamic architecture. the islamic architecture is intimately connected to arabic calligraphy and both are partial physical manifestations of the fundamental abstract arabic language. when we zadokites came to arabia we were mesmerized by the arabic language and quickly discarded our proto-hebrew and aramaic and adopted arabic. we developed the language to such a level that to be an arab meant someone who can "speak" while a non-arab, or ajam, meant someone who is a "mute". arab no longer meant a particular ethnicity. though we were ethnically bani israel, we considered ourselves arab linguistically.

I appreciate all the commentary and I believe at some point maybe we should touch base and see how we can generate content about your ancestry. Ultimately this channel is about bringing forward in a new and "as professional as possible (forgive my aspiration)" manner that relates to people in a way that our archaic text books and methodologies dont. Let us maybe have a think about this possibility in the near future. Always willing to learn myself.

why you aren’t tell about nastaliq script?

Nastaliq is indeed a most beautiful script. It wasn't mentioned not to diminish it by any means but due to the nature of content creation. Listing too many scripts or their offshoots can confuse the viewer. This is the only reason.

Also Nastaliq is Persian or Urdu script not an Arabic script, this video is mostly about Arabic script i guess that also can be the reason.
