After a heap of DMs on when the D-MAX would get a canopy.. well today's the day! Full STEEL UTE CANOPY from Tradecap and CaneToad Equip is going on, and will be tested on a 7000km CAPE YORK OTT TRIP, will it survive? This the first of 2 canopy videos, this is the full install and the second is will be post the cape trip showing how it went!

⏩ What's with the gloves?
Not after any KZfaq fame here which is why I'm not in the vids - they're not about me they're about the how-to! I used the gloves for the first couple of projects I filmed which just happened to be messy ones and it kinda just became a thing - easy to spot my videos! If that's not your thing and you'd prefer to watch a face, all good, I won't be offended, there's plenty of better looking ones to watch already on KZfaq ;)
⏩ Where did this start?
I really enjoy tinkering with different projects - they usually require a whole bunch of research and learning along the way. It's satisfying on doing a thing and standing back and going 'Yeah! Totally did that!'. I had a bunch of mates asking 'how did you know how to do that?' and 'I couldn't never do that myself so I thought; I need to start something where I can help others that might be thinking the same thing :)
⏩ What will you find here?
The purpose is simply to make these videos as top quality and helpful as I can. They will always be free, there's ZERO agenda and the only motive is to try and upload what I would want to watch to help with that particular project. I'm also keen to keep building this little community and will try to answer all questions when asked - fire away :)

Yes they have replied within a day But there is about a two month wait if you want one at the moment as I'm getting it colour coded so takes a few weeks nore

Hi Adam. Great video! I'm shopping for a canopy myself and this looks like a nice alternative to a RSI. I imagine price was a major factor in going with this unit.

Just some d rubber from Bunnings and have recently installed a positive pressure vent with fan so will see how that goes

Hi Adam ao watched you as you have been installing the Canopy onto the Isuzu D-Max Ute. I have purchased the new 2023 Isuzu D-Max Ute Space Cab model. I selected this model as I can camp in during trips here in NSW. I have not seen any Canopy that would go onto my D-Max Ute. I will be very grateful if you can help to advise me how to have a Canopy built for my vehicle. I would appreciate your assistance in getting some information who can help me please. these are available on various sites ebe and gummi and aliwawa etc but they are not powder coated. I notice yours is blue. Did you coat it yourself or did it come like that? Its good to see that these are holding up ok. i might get one if i see yours is still holding now as you have had it awhile.

Hey mate do you have a video of how you mounted your roof rack? I’ve got a rhino rack platform and wondering how you mounted yours to the canopy?

I originally mounted it to the two crossbars on the top of the canopy and bolted it down there but have since modified the rack that it came with so they would slot inside those steel racks from all flush fit (and so I can be under 2 m and get into car parks 😂)

how did you connect the tail light did you buy. any adapter to run it from the original lights ?? thanks mate

Nope, just ran down the inner and ran up under in the rear corners where there's a small gap that goes into bending the tail light. Just made up a connector

How do you feel about the supplied clamping brackets? I find mine could can be a bit of an obstruction and a potential hazard if I have the pups in the tub with how much they protrude out! Thinking of trying an alternative clamp or a nutsert type of system for a more streamlined finish. Have you thought about this too? 8:48

Seem to be fine so far? They kinda sit flat ish from the front anyway. Haven't noticed anything getting caught under so far :)

Quick q….. is it a simple process attaching the roof top tent? It looks like the rails run north south along the edge or are there other rails required? Cheers

Yeah I had attached to the rack that I got with it as mine was north south rails also. Have since modded the rack to install inside the rails if that makes sense so nice and flush 👍

Hey hey, yep sure did, ran it down the left side and in the back corner there's a gap up under the tub corner area to run a wire to the tail light area

Awesome mate! I see the load rating is 200kg rated - I wonder if this is static or dynamic load? One of these with a RTT looks very appealing to me, I'm just wondering if me + my partner + RTT's weight would exceed it, but we're only small... 😂

Dynamic 👍 Had a 110kg on it for the whole cape trip, all the corrugations, the OTT etc. You'll see the outcome next vid (p.s did excellent 👌)

Comes powdercoated black usually, I opted for the colour match that they can do as an option

No such thing as silly Q's .. no not underneath line I show in the vid, I did sika around the edges to seal

@@VideoShowMeHow oh sweet I noticed you didn't under the tub. Guessing the clamping down would squeeze it down so you wouldn't require the Sika. I can't help but feel I should sika the joins, taping off each side of the joins to keep it neat, just in case 😂 but it's probably overkill.
