I watched IT when I was like 5 or 6 and it didn’t really scare me that much it gave me a feel like goonies. Kids going on an adventure but to kill a monster instead of find some treasure. The shower scene with eddy spaghetti did make me scared of shower drains tho. I remember my older sister really being afraid of IT tho.

His death was so much better in the book anyway. His arm was pretty much torn out of it's socket. The description of the scene was much better and more brutal than either movie of TV series. The horrible CGI takes me out of it. Plus, by the end battle the kids do not fear It, which makes part 2 pointless. In the book they're scared shitless because they can be killed by It, Henry and his goons and the flood in the sewers, where they're risking being drowned in a maze of darkness. I hope that they make a Netflix type series where they can delve into the book more and keep the original time frame to keep the classic monster motif, and not just what the director finds nostalgic. This movie will not age well, like part 2 of the mini-series because it lacks effective scares.

captainpungent I hyper disagree with you. The movie is a coming of age story that is more about the loss of innocence and facing your fears. Also CGI is amazing and almost flawless because it is combined with the makeup. Also why in hell would the kids be afraid once they’ve faced him and all their fears? The more you experience something, the more aware and less scared you are of it.

Thank you. I was trying to get my point across without writing a novel, hoping people wouldn't take it like I was saying something negative about younger generations. Honestly, I don't believe it's really fair to pit these two adaptations against one another simply because one is rated R. Had the miniseries been an actual movie with a theatrical debut, an R rating (and, in my opinion, a better adult cast... besides Pennywise that is), who knows what we might have today. However, when it comes to movies that are made for TV, there are a LOT of guidelines that have to be adhered to. Especially ones from back in those days. We didn't have shows like The Walking Dead where violence and gore is perfectly fine. That's why I always get so irritated with these types of videos because It's honestly not a very fair comparison.

While the movie may be a better adaptation, it has an R rating to back it up. Something you need to take into consideration. People can understand that scene better when reading the book. It was one of the ways to tell how they needed the seven of them to get rid of Pennywise. In the book, the kids are always thinking about how it seems to have a type of force bringing them together and that's true, it's the Turtle (the entity opposite of It). It helped the 7 in many ways when they were kids until they realized it was needed the Lucky 7 to win over Pennywise. The bloody sink only finally getting clean after all the kids help Beverly with it was part of understanding it.

@@Donnouri1 I have a couple issues with this take on things. Firstly, I don't think it's really necessary for them to perfectly adapt the book. Making changes to suit the medium is a good thing. The way things are structured in the book simply wouldn't work as well in a movie. I think it's far more useful to compare the miniseries and the movies on their own, without worrying about the book. The miniseries/movies need to stand on their own anyway. If people have to read the book to understand a scene in the miniseries, then the miniseries did not successfully execute that scene. This next part's just my opinion, but I would even disagree that the book is better than the new movies. I got super into IT in anticipation for the movies, and honestly, the book has a lot of issues. It gets super weird. All the cosmic stuff (especially the turtle) really ruined the tension for me, and you also get stuff like the infamous scene when the kids were leaving the sewers. You know the one... When I learned Stephen King was doing a ton of drugs while writing the book, I was not surprised in the least.

EXACTLY!!! some people claim him to not be affected at all and blame supposed: "poor acting" but I know from experience that denial is a really heavy thing. My mom died in 2013 and to this day: I expect to see her, talk to her, laugh with her; just about everything we used to do. but despite me knowing she's gone, my brain clings to an inkling of hope that it is just a nightmare

Denial is not a something everyone experiences, in fact most people don't go through this even when a loved one is missing ( I work in the legal system); further, both my brothers died when I was a child, I never denied their death. So, to each their own on that one. Nevertheless, this is the problem with movie adaptations of books. Of course things have to be changed. However, directors often pick idiotic things to change. In this case the George-Bill story arc. George's death in the book, and unchanged (mostly) in the mini-series, was important to the overall story. IT feeds off fear, not really the people, which is never really explained in the movie (or, the mini-series). George was the first child killed in 1957, after an event woke IT up (how IT is awakened is also yet to be or may not be explained in the movie, nor was it in the mini-series). George's death was purposefully gruesome, and yet it wasn't for IT to feed, instead it was meant to provoke fear, especially among the children who's imaginations run wild. That's why IT left George's body to be found. Notice, that after George is killed, all the children go "missing" which further promotes the fear, but it is because of what happened to George that makes these "missing" cases more terrifying to everyone in Derry. There is more to it, but basically the way the new movie portrayed the events both eliminated that gruesome fear and stripped Bill of his true character. Bill was originally a grieving brother, who knows his brother was murdered, and knows that the adults are ignoring what's going on (an overarching plot in the book and in the mini-series, and hinted at stupidly in the new movie), and is therefore determined to find out what happened to his brother (which is how IT is actually discovered). Bill is the leader of the "Losers" because he is strong. However, in the new movie, the decided to make him a weak and frail character who cannot face reality. Seriously, who believes that a child can be swept away in an average rainstorm, yet leave a large pool of blood on the ground, be missing for months, and still be alive... They stripped away his purpose, and instead they are left with stumbling dumbly into IT. I like the new movie, but they definitely ruined that part and in the process ruined a few major plot points, and a major character and his major purposes. They also ruined a few other characters, and the directors upcoming "plans" are not going to fix them.

Shadow Force were you alive when there were movies of the week? Danielle Steele books made into cheesy movies or movies based on famous murders? They were not like movies of today. Considering when it was made in the late 80’s, and for television, it was pretty shocking at that time. I remember being open mouth shocked that they were going to make Stephen King’s IT into a tv miniseries. How could they make such a risqué book, that I had only read bits of in the stacks at the library, into something I could watch on my couch.

In the book, the neighbor across the street from the sewer finds Georgie right after IT finishes him off, and if they would have gone that route and added in the scene where Bill and Richie were looking through the picture book in Georgie's room afterwards, /that/ would have been way more terrifying.

It also helped make him a deeper and more well rounded character on a variety of levels. But to each their own. I don't think any less of you for your opinion. Just giving an alternative opinion from the other side of the spectrum. :)

I definitely think Tim Curry’s Pennywise is more unnerving. Bill Skarsgard did a wonderful job, but somehow his performance as Pennywise reminds me of the movie “Clown” which is... not a good movie, hahaha.
