I only mention that proper training makes this kind of stretch fairly easy because I've seen the horrible videos of Chinese kids being forced into positions they're not ready for at acrobatic schools. The teachers don't seem to care that four and five year old children are screaming in agony.

@@sebumpostmortemyesss omg I rarely see people comment about that, ESPECIALLY THE “NO FORCING”!! So important! I stopped spending so much time every day in the studio because I went to school to become, and then spent a year and a half stabilizing and maintaining my career as a doctor, but even when I only went in three times a week, every single morning and usually afternoon I literally could not feel comfortable or stable without stretching for ten minutes 😂 I’ve had the same wake up routine for about 20 years- wake up, step onto the floor, point flex stretch my feet (and hear all the cracking 😅), usually do a lazy deep lunge then bend my torso all the way back then forward (idk what it’s called I know it has a name), then when I brush my teeth I usually finish stretching my legs using the bathroom counter and my balcony railing as balance in lieu of a home barre since we moved to dc and i haven’t had all my stuff from Russia shipped here. I stg it’s the WORST feeling when you’re going about your normal day un-stretched and feel that vague slight rigid/stiff/tight out-of-place feeling in your muscles. I can’t focus like that! @remy.sequoia May I ask your age? Skill level? Recreational? Competitive? Apprentice?Professional? I will try to give you a real answer. I was a nurse, and I danced for a lot of years. Basically, though, you need to help them understand that you're relaxing and placing your trust in them, much like a partner. Like a teacher really, but... So, it's okay to ask if they can communicate with you to prevent the possibility of an injury. This is YOUR body. You only get one!
@xoxo.remedy10 ай бұрын
well he never places our legs so high to where it’s uncomfortable. he shows us where our flexibility is and how high we can really lift our leg. how our leg drops means that we need to grow more muscle in our hips. i don’t see how this leads to an injury.
@bethanybrooks15810 ай бұрын
Never done ballet, but I had a karate Sensei that did this with our legs while we held a kick to show us how to properly extend through our target, and I was FLABBERGASTED at how far up I could reach. The hard part isn’t gaining the flexibility. If you’re doing the kicks and stretches every day that’ll come. The hard part is training your muscles to hold the stretch without outside assistance.

Yeah, but this is why ballet dancers have back problems by the time they’re in their 20s from all this hyper extension. Pre-Balanchine, it’s true that women did not have to have their ankles by their ears, but they also were able to dance into their 40s.

ok, but, when I was training, it was considered incorrect and quite possibly tacky to do leg extensions that high if your hip was raised like that, I mean we were consistently yelled at if we raised our hip in a leg extension, hips had to be squared off, if you could not do a leg extension with squared off hips, you DID NOT DO THEM AT ALL!!!!!! And my instructors were from all forms of training backgrounds, Vaganova (kinda, more Balanchine than Vaganova, ok), Cechetti, Royal Ballet, you name it, this new fad to do leg extensions like this just to get your leg as high as possible is super weird to me and I don't know if I like it, I feel like dancers who do this don't have as much control over their body placements
