Күн бұрын

Welcome to part 5, Exciting times lay ahead with more building and engine work :)
The first job on today's list was to refit the swing arm to the frame but first it needed new bushes pressed into it so into the trusty old vice it went. After that it was just a case of bolt it to the frame and stick the rear wheel on. None of the rear end bolts will be torqued down at the moment as the chain still needs to be fitted and adjusted once the engine goes in.
After the wheel was on i decided to finish off most of the wiring by fitting the handlebars, switch gear and lights. This took longer than expected due to the polishing and inlaying that the switches needed but a job that was immensely satisfying to see the results of!
The it was onto the big job that a lot of you have been waiting for tearing the engine apart for restoration. At this point i would like to say all specs have been check for the engine and everything is within those specs so the gearbox wont be coming apart neither will the bore be getting honed or the piston replaced as compression tests show it has full compression. The casing were all lightly blasted then buffed back to a satin finish, a vapor blaster would make this process easier but i dont have one and no one local has one either so im stuck doing cases the hard way for now. The barrel was painted high temp gloss black and the side cases were repainted in there original silver gloss finish.
Next week i will be rebuilding the engine with all new gaskets and seals setting the tappets and ignition timing, then refitting the engine and finishing off the bike.... fingers crossed.
see you again soon RRC.
A little more info below if this is your first time watching the C90 restoration.
The item in question is a 1979 Honda C90 motorcycle , scooter, moped or whatever else you want to class it as lol. It was a barn find that has been sitting off the road for years and when i got the chance to buy it i snapped it up.
From the initial inspection it didn't look to bad but tearing it down uncovered a series of areas that will need rectification work if i want to get this back to factory fresh.
The plan is to go thorough the bike methodically restoring, replacing and fabricating as need be to make this one of the best restored c90's out there and as you can probably tell from my other videos the finish will be second to none ;)
so sit back relax and enjoy a series of videos documenting the full restoration of the bike from start to finish.
If you like what you see and have any ideas for the channel or would even like to donate something to restore to the channel please get in touch. :)
And as usual if you liked the video please like share and subscribe and help the channel grow.

There's an incredible beauty to be found when rebuilding a completely clean, fresh bike. When you assemble it, you want to take time to step back and stare at the what you've assembled and what's next, knowing you don't want to fuck it up. You want to do it the cleanest way to avoid scratches or smudges.

Using the vise to press inthe sleeves brought back a lot of memories because that’s how my Dad did a lot of things around our own garage as we worked on Antique Sportscars, Motorcycles and boats many of the cars and Motorcycls were British and often the Imperial tools available in the United States wouldn’t work as intended we even pressed U Joints in and out of a drive shaft that was about 4 feet long so I stood on a ladder to get the alignment correct for the vise on super tight jobs it was common for my Dad to freeze parts in our kitchen refrigerator

I feel stupid, i've had the same kind of lift for several years. I only thought the hatch was for servicing the hydraulic pump, never though that it could be used for easier wheel removal. I've been lifting the bikes with sketchy wooden blocks under the centre stand until now, duh'! Great project and videos, thanks!

I have one of these bikes but a newer version, year 1993 or the GBO-J with square headlights. Have some mods including electronic ignition with CDI. This bike is really easy to maintain and never easily break down except punctured tyres . So far this is really a good buy so far! Sadly it is no longer with me after I've sold it to someone who really needs it more than me.

In my early days in the trade i sometimes had to assemble these out if the crate. They came two in a crate with the handlebars packed to the side and the front wheel so you had to put those on, also the pillion rests as I recall and rear indicator's. So early on my brain was programmed blue wires right, orange wires left. Also that new bike smell. This looks like a Z2 to me.

In 1997 I bought a blue 1984 c90 for £25. I used it on the farm roads and woods for 6 months or so then sold it for £40. I wish I'd kept it now. I would love to do a resto like this but I don't think I would manage the engine overhaul bit.
