I'm known for showing people how to clean like a Pro, but I've been in survival mode because it's super cold, so I'll share what a -27 day off grid in an RV looks like. Here are the challenges of the cold Canadian weather, things that I rely on to stay warm, comfort foods that help to heat the house up, and my diy hacks that make freezing winter off grid life more comfortable. Join me and my husky Dakota to see how we go from cold to cozy.

You’re so sweet Pam! Thank you! Every day is a learning experience and just when I think I’ve learned something, it changes! 😅 It’s a balmy 11 degrees inside this morning and the wood stove went out, so the weather improved greatly! Happy Saturday to you lovely lady! 💕💐💕

The poutine wasn’t as soupy as I thought it would be! ☺️ It was yummy! 😜 I’m sure that any new comers to BC wish that they chose to move south during that cold spell! I need more socks Rob! There’s never enough warm, fuzzy socks! 😅 Thank you for stopping by! I appreciate you! 😊💐

Sending warm thoughts your way!! 🥰 🔥Love how your furbaby talks to you! You have such great ideas for off-grid...and in such COLD weather, besides!! I wonder if putting some reflectic on the walls of the propane tank cover would help protect the tanks from freezing? But Gary says you would need to keep some ventilation for gas to go out, so not cover the entire thing. Ours is inside a bay on our rv. No other protection. We have never had them freeze, even when we went below zero a few years ago. But when we had the freeze here earlier this month, our neighbor's tanks froze. 🤔 He has a travel trailer. ??? Your meal looked yummy! Down here in Corpus Christi it gets dark at 6 pm now!! Loving that! But we don't have the beautiful mountains you do. And I would much rather see survival skills (that are going to be very important to know, the way things are going!) than how to clean my home! Lol! Glad it has warmed up there! Take care!! ❤

Bless your heart Orlene! Sometimes my ideas are not traditional in any way, but most of the time, they work! 😅 The cold snap lasted nearly two weeks and I’m sure glad it’s above zero and melting now. The propane only gelled one time thankfully. When the tanks get low, they seem to be more susceptible. I try to have extra tanks on hand when I know cold weather is coming. The little addition I built on the front of my RV has reduced the wind and the windows on the front of the propane/Dakota house help to warm the space on sunny days. It has lots of air circulation since the doorway has a simple blanket hanging. I have used reflectives on the tank wrapped loosely before. I think it is better than the plastic lid. Thank Gary for reminding me about that option. Your last comment really did warm my heart Orlene! Thank you so much for your support and kindness! Sending you and Gary very best wishes! 💕💐💕

That sure was a nasty cold snap we had, Im on straight propane heat, fireplace and furnace ,diesel heater didnt help much,burned up 30lb tank of propane every 3 days, glad you made it through

Thank you Jimmy! The little Grizzly mini woodstove was my saving grace. I had to tend it regularly, and it was hard to get the rv above 17 degrees at it's finest but I now consider that to be a pretty balmy temperature 😅 I used the propane furnace sparingly and my 20 lb tanks lasted about 3 to 5 days. It gets expensive during the cold spells. I'm glad you made it through too. Hopefully it's an early spring! Wishing you the best! 💐

@@Caution.beware Very true! I have great gloves, but when my feet are cold, it’s pretty hard to ignore. Maybe there will be some good sales on some solid boots that I can take advantage of since winter is half over 👍 warm new socks too!

About plastic bags , you can still get plastic bags in grocery stores for produce , candy , spices, etc . As well many stores like Sobey's and Safeway will put your packages of meat in same plastic bags to protect leakage of blood to other items in your grocery bag. But then again nowadays there is no such thing as common sense in most people
@DebbieNobodyneedstoknow1

I was speaking specifically to the shake and bake bags. Perhaps some stores do have plastic bags for meat, but I haven’t seen that here. The produce bags went away for awhile, but came back after the ruling that banning plastic is unconstitutional. The rule when in full force did not seem to apply to all things and it didn’t make sense. I’d like the shake and bake bags back ☺️ Wishing you the very best! 💐

Makes no sense about plastic bags . You can still get plastic bags in stores for produce , bulk candies , bulk spices etc plus grocery stores such as Safeway , Sobey's offer small plastic bags for meat packages to prevent blood spreading to the rest of groceries in your grocery bag. This is because nowadays common sense is far from being common .

I agree! I hope since the ban went to court and was ruled unconstitutional, I hope things change. The gov appealed the decision of course though ☺️
