Hey buddy, as your Texas neighbor, I wanted to say that I appreciate your work. My grass is different and my season is a little different, but I enjoy my lawn work and I like hearing sensible information about other folk's tactics. Blessings to you, brother.

Hey Travis👋👊👊 It's been fun these last 2 weeks watching my neighbors yard across the road from me in its transformation from all green to brown! 🤣 That round up is putting a spanking on it! Lol That property has never seen any love like I showed it and I can't wait till spring to witness its continued transformation! 👍💯

Nice. Been warm in many places this spring. I’m in northwest Arkansas and really no green up here yet. Just along the house slightly where the bricks heat up on the south side. This cold snap stopped that. Appreciate ya watching and commenting.

Great Tips Travis. Patients is key for sure. Just finished running a brush on lawn to fluff up then cut the orange tips down with earthwise manual reel. Holding off on fertilizer until my 2nd legit mow. My thought is to allow lawn to naturally wake up on it's own and allow roots to grow deep vs. creating unnecessary top growth early in season when lawn will naturally grow like gangbusters. That's my cool season plan. Almost there. 👍🏻 Maybe sand cap in fall since I still have some spots to fill in with sifted top soil.

Remember me? I'm the one that couldn't find my bag of bermuda seeds (I found it!) When I till the dirt, should I mix worm castings with it? Then when it warms up, I'll throw seeds down.

Here in South Texas, grass was fully green by March! Had a few weeks of high temps that brought everything out of dormancy. Then Spring Break kicked in, decided to put fert out, and then all of a sudden we had an unexpected cold front come in and bring soil temps back down to low 50s... 😑 Why I will always wait until Mid April like I usually do.

I did a winter PRG overseed in NWA this year and I went through some nitrogen in that last warm spell. The last few weeks I’ve been getting compliments almost daily. PRG isn’t Bermuda, just came here to brag
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
Nice job. You make a good point. If you overseeded bermuda with a winter grass, your first fertilization will be earlier if you want the rye to keep going. Some people kill it off early though to not impede their bermuda wake up. I've seen a bermuda lawn not fully take shape all season after a botched overseed not being killed early enough in spring. Thanks for watching.

The majority of homes in my neighborhood in central Oklahoma had their lawns scalped by mid February. Temps last night in mid March were in the teens. My plan was to wait until first week of April but I may wait another week or two. Very poor idea to scalp so early in the year, more detrimental than it is helpful in my opinion.

Hey dude, we’ve talked before but I’ll tell you, I thought I was all geared up for this year, I have two big silver maples in my front that basically turned my front yard in to mush my wife has heard me complain about them for years now and for Valentine’s Day this year she got a tree company with an arborist come in and prune everything way back. So I thought ok , I’m gonna go r Through all the steps thisyear so I stock piled the tools and product to start this year off right and so far this year weather and and soil temps told me not yet wait for it wait for it, then I look out at the front the other day and I see all these yellow flowers out there and I was likeWTF is this ? I researched and found out it’s called yellow wood sorrel or oxalis and in my area of Pennsylvania I apparently was supposed to have another month before I was supposed to put down a pre emergent!
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
Don't sweat it man. Lawn care is full of curveballs. That's what makes it fun if you ask me. The yellow wood sorrel, or oxalis, isn't that bad. I've dealt with it before. Very easy to pull out with shallow roots. That's how I got rid of a patch in my front lawn. However, it's also easy to kill with a post emergent herbicide. It's all good. Thanks for watching and commenting as always.

Travis, Matt here…here is what I have done. I have tons of weeds, so I went to price milling a while back and bought some Atrazine 4L and Bermuda seed…It smoked the weeds. I basically have no Bermuda in my front and side yards. Should I till up my yard and clean that..apply top soil and spread the Bermuda seed? Or can I just throw Bermuda seed without tilling it?
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
Hey man. Yeah, sounds like you need to cut it down as low as possible and bag to get as much trash outta the way. A light layer of topsoil would prolly be a good idea, unless you go across the lawn roughing it up somehow. You just wanna make sure that when you spread the seeds, they’re making good seed to soil contact. Wanna keep it pretty moist too. Wouldn’t wanna do this until it warms up quite a bit. Bermuda seed will need warmer temps to see success. Overall, it sounds like you’re thinking in the right direction. Hope this helps. Great to hear from ya. Hope all is well. 👊👍

Gotcha. I’ve been reading about soil temps needing to be about 65ish degrees? What’s stopping me from taking a thermometer and sticking it into the ground ha? Our night temps getting in the 50s still too cold?
@BudgetLawns

Yeah, I’d wait a few weeks more until we get consistently warmer temps. It’s still a little cool for Bermuda seeding if ya ask me.

What do you or does anyone think of using the 3 in 1 products? Like the Scotts turf builder, using something that has a pre and post weed killer. It's the first spring, taking on a lawn that was neglected.

Hi I live in MD and wanted to know if I can put down grub control, a fungicide and my weedkiller all in the same week if not same day and also what is a good month to do it then
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
I don't use fungicides or pesticides. You'd need to follow your label and see if those need watered in. If they do, you would want to keep them separated from the weed killer because it shouldn't be watered in. I'm gonna point you to Turf Therapy and Elevated Lawnscapes. They're a little closer to your location and have some great stuff on the applications you mentioned. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I have repeatedly heard about not mowing before spraying weeds and I am going to respectfully disagree. I have had way more success spraying herbicide on a freshly cut weed. The science probably doesnt support what I am saying, but to me spraying herbicide on a fresh "wound" would allow it to enter the weed that much easier.
@BudgetLawns
