The first rookie mistake I made was listening to all the self proclaimed “lawn scientists ie lawn professionals” Then I found Budget Lawns. A common sense approach to lawn care for the average home owner. Great videos and info. Is my check in the mail for this comment 😂 Just kidding guys. 🌱🌱🌱🌱

🙌🙌🙏🙏 Thank you! That's awesome! I can promise you and others this...I am no professional or scientist. I'm certainly no authority in lawn care for that matter. I'm just a guy who shares what he's learned out in his lawn. I don't want to be seen as an expert by any stretch of the imagination. That makes me uncomfortable just thinking about it haha! Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad you found me and grateful for the support.

Exactly we don’t always know who we are taking our advise from. If you are going to use KZfaq as your lawn care guide you can use several different channels to get the overall feel of what should be done, but remember not every lawn is the same (I should say not every cool season lawn is the same nor is warm season) to begin with a soil test should be preformed so you know what nutrients your soil needs. Also as Budget Lawns is telling you you need to know if you have a cool or season warm season lawn. That really is the first step. Good luck on your lawn care.

@@BudgetLawns -- Informative but also clear that every breed and country needs its specific maintenance. I live in Belgium and there is absolutely no Bermuda there... Below is the type I sown, a thinner variety but very firm. Perennial rye grass to be exact. A variety that you also have but are used less often. Shade is possible there as well as sandy soil and clay. Mowed too short? Then you always have moss in the spring. Or then the grass turns red in the summer. An NPK of 15-8-8 in the spring is recommended, two types of nitrogen that give the grass a boost first, followed by a slower growth afterwards. The added iron then kills moss, just like potassium. It is best to apply from 15 degrees Celsius. COMPO Floranid Permanent DCM Vital Green is an absolute winner. Festuca Rubra Maxima Festuca Rubra Brahms Poa Pratensis Anisha Lolium Perenne Angelina Lolium Perenne Cleopatra Three weeks after the fertilizer and after two mowings, scarifying is only appropriate, as is overseeding. Conclusion, advice is welcome but should never be taken literally. Regards. ps = I subbed to :)

Good stuff, as always. I did find out what kind of grass I have. So I luckily avoided Mistake #1. I’m slowly, slowly mowing it lower and lower with the new (to me) Cal Trimmer. I took it a shade below one inch today, which is down from 2 1/4” a couple weeks ago. It’s a little brownish in spots and nicely green in other places. Amazing how easy (now, with it cut lower) it is to see where sand needs to be added for leveling. Great YT channel; that you for posting such sound, reasonable advice.

Talk about making mistakes. This is the first time I have a yard and time to work the lawn. The area had not been mowed or taken care of for about seven years. So the first year was really the lawn care people used chemicals that killed everything and left the dead husks I the lawn. So the next year was ripping out the dead weeds and the top soil that had weed seeds so think it was about an inch to an inch and a half deep stripping the lawn was difficult. I filled the community dumpster about six times. The next season was seeding the back yard with a drought resistant fescue and Kentucky while leveling watering and weeding the front trying to save what was left of Burmuda and buffalo. So this year I have cool grasses in the back and warm in the front.

We've got cool season grass here, I've given up a bit on looking for that perfect grass. The past 2 years I've overseeded with a random mix of rye, kgb, and fescue different brands and strains around the same time I aerate. I cut once a week at about 3 inches, no more irrigation, milorganite 3x a year. Now I have a relatively low maintenance lawn, army worms didn't, that rust mold, dog spots arnt a problem anymore. Diversification is the best choice I've ever made. While the neighbors fight to keep their monoculture free from bugs and disease mine stays healthy with only minor damage not huge swaths of destruction. Random rant on grass. Haha.

i was just in the garage changing oil on car when a guy w a ford f 350 pulling a big travel trailer backs out a seeder to fertilizer neighbors yard. the temptation was there to walk across an ask how much to fertilize my loan, but when i went inside an watched the news. they said alot of the fertilizer comes from Russia. well sorry lawn no fertilizer this year. the moles can have at it

Yeah, the world of fertilizer is going crazy with that. Sad what is going on over there. I hope a resolution is found soon. Thanks for watching.

Should I use a bagger to cut Bermuda grass?
@BudgetLawns

No, mulch the clippings unless scalping in spring. Thanks for watching.

So what if you have Bermuda but can't mow twice a week? Should you cut it higher or lower than normal?
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 2 жыл бұрын
Mow at least once a week and a little higher. The shorter it is, the more often it needs mowed. Thanks for watching.

Here's an old vid I did that touches on it a bit. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5qTh9ibqty3c30.html I don't have first hand experience with St. Aug. so I don't like pretending to be an expert on something that I'm not. I stick close to home base where my real world knowledge lies. Sorry. Appreciate you watching!

Who has time to mow 2x a week. I wish I did but I got a busy life
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 2 жыл бұрын
I do. I have an extremely busy life as well. Mowing is my time to myself, my hobby, my de-stresser. If it brings value to your life besides the grass, you'll find the time for it. It's not just about the lawn. It's for me. It's therapy.

Step 4 This is a big one of mine. Dont fall victim to some of these KZfaq salesman. I get tired of watching (one in particular) push a product and expect it to be used weekly/bi-weekly. Drop ship me a pallet of bio-juice-shocker and I could achieve the same results. For the average homeowner its cost prohibitive to use at the frequency suggested.
@BudgetLawns

Lots of victims out there unfortunately. So many people making themselves out to be an authority online to make others think they have to buy their products or their lawns will suck. You don’t have to worry about that here on Budget Lawns. I’m just an average homeowner looking for a slightly above average lawn. Appreciate ya watching and your feedback. 👍👍

@@BudgetLawns yeah we shared our love for the often neglected Spectracide. I have 1.25 acre lawn and most lawn care "experts" suggestions would never work on a yard of my size (budget wise) I would like to see a channel that uses your same lawn care ideology only on a bigger scale.
