In this video I'm talking about my house move, where I'm at with it and why it's taking so long! If you haven't watched the previous video 'Where Have I Gone? Closing Down the Workshop and Moving On...' it would be worth you watching that one first.

Life is bananas right now. Every story I hear I realize the world is just in chaos. One day we'll look back at this with wonder. I wish I could travel 500 years in the future to learn how this all turns out and the changes Covid made in the world. Hope you get to move soon! It will be so nice when you're in your new space and make it exactly how you want.

I am a builder and have seen the price of materials rocket recently, for example, an 8'x4' sheet of OSB has gone from £18 to £56. 30% of building sites in England are 'on stop' due to same. On the 1st of this month, I was on a motorway on a beautiful day heading out for a motorcycle ride with a dear friend. I came to a stop at the rear of a queue of traffic and put on my hazard lights. Moments later, I was hit by a car, the driver of which was obviously more interested in her boyfriend and her children than me. My life has been changed forever. All things have a perspective. Your move will happen and your life will find move on. I wish you every luck with your move.

keeping the shop going has been challenging as I'm doing everything from a temporary space (it's a piece of my old worktop balanced between some drawers in a room full of boxes!) but I've managed to get all my orders out as usual. Most of the items on the shop which are ready to purchase are things I made in the old workshop though so I can just post them if anybody buys anything

Omg I feel for you. I retired last January. We could not find anything that was good where we wanted to go. The market is so strong nothing last more than 2 weeks. Plus crappy houses were selling for outrageous prices. So we decided to pack our things and sell our house and hope something comes up during the time. While packing up my shop I ended up with two slipped disc in my neck which crippled my ability to pack my shop (leather knife and fly rod shop). Then we had repairs to do on the house and during that I slipped on the tile by the front door and fractured my knee in three places. I still kept trying to fix the repairs and pack while Living with the pain I was in. We sold the house put most of our things in storage and took what we needed to live in a apartment. And left. Spent a week in a hotel trying to find a apartment but they were going as fast as the house market. Only one available was a third floor apartment without a elevator. So we got moved in found property and started building a house. Knee is now almost feeling okay after 9 months and the house will not be done till June. So no shop for over a year. Long story sorry. But I feel for you.

So Sorry to hear about all your troubles. COVID has wreaked havoc on the housing industry in the US also. Supply shortages cause building shortages which in turn causes higher prices for older homes. Glad you found a nice home though, even if it's taking a bit to get into it. Stay Strong!

I fully understand all the delays and supply issues caused by COVID and in the your Government's Brexit and the subsequent impact on labour. For me it's a case of do what I can and the things I have no control over just let go. Otherwise the changes to life the pandemic has caused could amplify stress and lead to depression and anxiety issues. I am excited to see what you do for a new workshop.

Oh Ian! I hope your buyers are happy enough to wait and you're not getting pressured, if you do don't be afraid to turn the screws on your sellers to shift their butts into a rental to avoid a collapse of the whole chain due to their delays. You've missed all the stamp duty discounts because of them. You'd hope they are actually on site regularly to check progress rather than taking the building firms word for when completion is expected as to push it out months at the last minute at the end of Aug suggests it may have not even been water tight or fully built at that point, hopefully they are a larger building company so no potential cash flow problems which is the other issue I've heard of lately.
@Leodis.Leather
@Leodis.Leather 2 жыл бұрын
my own house isn't actually sold yet, I am moving first and will be putting my house up for sale as soon as I go. It's a good job really because if I'd had buyers of my own hanging about for the same amount of time that would have been even more stress I don't think I could have coped with it. The stamp duty thing has been a particular kick in the balls, although it was unlikely to have gone ahead in time for me to make the biggest saving (which would have been a fortune) when they pushed it past September I lost out on the end of the taper and that cost me another £2500 overnight. With hindsight they should have gone into a rental months ago though yes.
@outoftheburrough

@@Leodis.Leather phew that's a relief you are able to do that! & it's good you will have time to move things across when you do get access (I speak from experience of being in a chain, getting the keys just before 5pm when the movers were minutes from taking it all to storage & couldn't have returned for several days, which nearly broke me) Hopefully the price you agreed was before the nutty rises we've seen all over the UK so counteracts the loss of the stamp duty holiday a bit but use the SDH as a bargaining chip if needs be. After waiting this long I definitely think you are well within reason to start issuing them with requests for a more fixed plan as you can't hang on forever. I know you said it's a fairly specific area you're wanting but viewing other places in the estate agents books even if you'd never consider them can help to focus the minds that you're getting pissed off with waiting.
