One thing I learned about leatherwork is the only way to make money at it is to cut up second hand clothing and furniture and handbags. New leather is ridiculously priced by a small number of suppliers who dominate the market making the trade financially unviable.

I've been using Resolene for some time but don't like the finish as it's more a plastic feel and prone to cracking, also stops you moisturising leather later on

I don't get any edge burning -but my laser is low powered. It is a 5w diode and I run it at 87% and set it so that it takes at least 4 passes to cut. it works great.

I use a steel washer with a slightly larger hole, to sit on top of the copper washer , to use as a spacer for cutting off the post.

Hi Ian. I have some John James needles 001, 002, 003, and 004. The 1,2, and 3 all seem to be same length and diameter. Am I missing something?

Thank you for the excellent video. As I watching this it hit me...If I was a self-respecting Gondorian soldier who stood at Pelennor Fields or the Black Gate, that engraving would offend me to anger, to see the symbol of my kingdom surrounded by the black speech. And then I told myself to just appreciate the insights in the video instead.

My current door bell isn’t hard wired but is battery operated- is this still doable or will the Ring Door Bell run the batteries down really quickly?
@Leodis.Leather3 ай бұрын
You just need to buy a battery ring doorbell then you wouldn’t be using the existing battery

I feel like this video gives the impression that the sticks with a wick are "traditional" and the ones that are cut up and melted are supple. This isn't the case, supple wax comes in both forms as well as beads, the form factor does not identify the type of wax. In fact I'm fairly certain both of the ones you're using are supple wax, their resulting appearance only being different because the J. Herbin wax is much higher quality. It's also worth noting that historically, sealing wax didn't have a wick in it at all, it's a relatively modern addition.

I don't know about the UK, but here in America or at least where I buy leather, it's wrapped in a heavy duty paper (that I use for dying and painting under the leather) but also in a long box. Keeping it in the cardboard box should be good, right? As a beginner, I'm always looking for these tips. Thank you.
@Leodis.Leather3 ай бұрын
Yes if you have the space keeping the cardboard boxes is a good idea

I know this is an older video, but I'm just now coming across it. If you see this comment, could you tell me if you know of any issues with zippers with metal teeth vs. plastic teeth regarding strength and/or failure tendencies?

Brilliantly explained. I was having trouble tying the Diamond Knot for a knife lanyard. I still need practice, but I'm now understanding the concept better from this video than any other video I've seen on the topic!
