Same as Italian tubular cast on in the round for rib 2x2 but with "0" tubular rounds. Beautiful and very stretchy. Without using a waste yarn.
In this video I will share with you the method I developed for a neat jogless connection in a circle for a ribbed casting on. Great for hand knitting hats, socks, sweaters, sleeves, top down knitting.

LisaR: Beautiful. This is the best way I've seen to do the 2x2 rib cast on . I'm assuming the name implies the origins of the technique. It makes perfect sense to me . I was fortunate to have an Italian tailor and seamstress for my in-laws . They patiently taught me to sew , for which I ll always be grateful and respect the Italian techniques of garment making ! Thank you so much! I figured it out myself - I wasn’t very fond of casting on an extra stitch for connecting in a circle. It took me some "knitting reverse engineering". It can be used for rib 1x1 also. I have a video on that. Большое спасибо! Очень рада, что вам понравилось!

You get right to the point without additional pointless blether, speak clearly, no unneccessary chattering, knit NICE AND SLOW for us visual learners, making it easy to follow along. @@irinarevo I’m on Ravelry as we speak looking for a 2x2 rib hat pattern to get started using this cast on method. I’m an intermediate beginner knitter so I still need patterns to help with number of cast on stitches and needle size for an adult female hat. I’m excited to get started using this tubular cast on and changing the stitches to create the 2x2 rib. Question, for a hat do I still want to use a size smaller size needle for two rows for the brim? Especially if it will roll up. Will it be stretchy enough to fold up?

My personal experience is that I do not change the needle size if I knit a straight tube (such as a beginning of a hat), in some cases I use one size down for a cast on row and the first row to avoid a flared edge. I change the needle size though when I knit a neck trim (sometimes 4-5 sizes) to create a "flat ring" that lays nicely around the neck. (BTW I have a ribbed hat, 1x1 though, on my channel - a free pattern step by step, if you are interested.) :)

Just saw your video . Is this cast on only for ribbing. Can it be used as a cast on for afghans and other projects. Your enthusiasm is just wonderful and encouraging. I’m a novice and haven’t knitted in a few years until recently. I knitted a Fan and Feather afghan. I’m so proud! Thank you for sharing. God bless.😊

Thank you, Mary! Yes, this cast on is for ribbing. It can be used for afghans, if you need alternating knit and purl stitches at the cast-on edge (you don’t have to connect in a circle and can continue working flat).

Hello Irina. As others have said, your tutorial is excellent. My question is about the Jogless knitting in a circle - rib 2x2, particularly the slipped purl and knit stitch. After I slip the purl stitch back onto the left needle, and then knit the knit stitch, it looks to me like the knit stitch is reversed when you knit it. Is that correct? If so, I assume that's not a problem since it gets 'corrected' in the next round. I hope you can clarify this for me. Thank you!

Hi Reena! I am very glad you like the video! In the video the knit stitch is placed onto the left needle tip from back to front (of the stitch). The right needle tip is then inserted into it from right to left (or from front to back of the stitch) - so the stitch will not be twisted (right away - not in the next round). Alternatively, the knit stitch can be placed onto the left needle tip from front to back (of the stitch). Then the right needle tip is inserted into it from left to right (again, from front to back of the stitch) - so again the stitch is not twisted. Both ways are correct because in both cases the right needle tip is inserted into that stitch from front to back of the stitch (or knit wise) maintaining the stitch in the regular knit position. To me the first way is just more convenient, but both are good.

This is lovely thankyou! I need to ask for some help, and I wonder if you could please make a video if it is doable. I do like to knit some 2×2 projects flat, and put 1 extra seam stitch on either end. Is there any good way to CO using the invisible tubular method, keeping in mind 3 knit stitches on 1 edge and last t 2 purls followed with the last knit stitch? I love to CO my flat 2x2 rib in this way because it seams up really well using mattress stitch with perfectly matched up seams.

Yes, I mean 1 seaming stitch on both ends , so as not to disturb 2x2 rib. So multiple of 4 with + 2 seaming stiches at the edges. I often wonder how they would be to dealt with while CO and how to manage them in the tubular part.

Thank you! The needles are by ChiaoGoo - Twist Red Lace 4" Tip Interchangeable Set (I have a Complete Set, they also have Small size and Large size sets separately, and 5" tips sets). Можно воротник, шапку, манжеты - всё, что по кругу/спирали. Я чаще всего использую для горловины свитера, когда вяжу сверху вниз, чтобы получилось расширяющееся плоское "кольцо". Размер спиц меняю 4-5 раз (от более тонких до максимально толстых, но, всё же, тоньше, чем для лицевой глади). Если воротник типа "труба" спицы обычно меняю только 1 раз, после 3-го ряда (там, где переход на резинку 2х2). 😀❤️
