The one from Dartmouth, "I really want to go there because it's far away." That pretty much sums it up.
@kiananilao67008 жыл бұрын
I bet it's because of the pressure from her mom
@ajc88152 жыл бұрын
And Dartmouth is probably the most underrated Ivy League too. She made a wise decision other than the distance.

I'm an asian and my parents would be so happy if I can get into an Ivy League school, but they don't pressure me like the parents in this video.

Stanford is more selective than Harvard and is the number one hardest school to get in to. Just because it's not ivy doesn't mean it's not a good school lmao that's like saying a Ferrari is low class
@wannamlwithu7 жыл бұрын
Yeap, i feel like Stanford is much more elite than Harvard or Yale despite the non ivy thingy. Acceptance rate is like 4% lol.

Aditya Bhamidipati this was back in 2005. Despite its academics, Stanford also gets a boost from its athletic success. College football has become the front porch for revenue and gaining a larger profile for the entire school.

Although I don't really agree with strict chinese parenting, I cant help but feel sorry for Michelle's mother, as one of Michelle's reasons for attending Dartmouth is "its far away from home."
@coolchick109710 жыл бұрын
it's hilarious that these parents put so much pressure on their own children to go to ivy league schools, but you rarely see the parents having an ivy league education in their repertoire as well
@yangmaster1610 жыл бұрын
darn... these kids seem overworked. i'm glad that my asian parents aren't this demanding of me; i would've broken down if they were hellbent on getting me into one of those schools.
@dchang117 жыл бұрын
yangmaster16 my parents didn't do that on me. They used to implement the traditional way, but that failed because I almost flunked the 3rd grade. My parents then did the hands off approach and the Cs and Ds turned to Bs and As.

thank god me and my brother are screw ups. Both my parents have no expectations anymore and don't expect the best, so when we actually do something good, they're happy.

From a former community college transfer, my dad try to pay me off in my decisions for colleges. He wanted me stay in Washington for Udub, or Wazu because its cheaper and closer to home.I wanted to go home and attend San Jose State.The funniest thing was trying to bribes me with a nissan skyline if I transfer to Berkeley. Yea sure pops, like you got the money to pay for that?lol I made the right choice by picking SJSU and then graduate three years later. That shyt backfire on him in the end.

I find it so funny Diana's mom kept a book with math problems she worked out as a child. Do all Asians do this or is there a small percentage. I only kept a report on Lincoln I did in 1st or 3rd grade. Along with a Flour Baby project, I did in my early high school years --> it was based off my sister pregnancy and I made my 2 y.o niece choose the name of the flour baby (Daisuke Niwa from DNAngel)

@jessicaburrell2456 жыл бұрын
I definitely prefer Diana and Michelle as they both put their heads down and they got to where they wanted, unlike Mike and Sophie. Mike thought that he could just get into Columbia without knowing what you grades you had to get and Sophie just moaned and moaned about revising and not being with her friends. Revising/studying gets you to where you want to be in life, you can’t just do the bare minimum and hope to get good results that you are looking for
@enami_01365 жыл бұрын

@PGOuma4 жыл бұрын
Mike didnt really want to go anyway. You could tell. At least he's *happy* where he got accepted into. As for the other girl, all she did was work and study and do other activities that she didnt care for. She just wanted 1 day where she could hang out with friends. Plus, she was 17. That's normal
@donaldb04010 жыл бұрын
However, his mother has no interest in how prestigious the school is. She's a single mother with 2 young boys and she needs help. I grew up in Providence and my mother wanted me to go to Brown so badly, I ended up getting in but her reasoning wasn't academics, it was location.

Having studied at two Ivy League schools, I believe the students featured here deserve recognition for their diligence and drive. But I cannot discern what makes them extraordinary. Good universities (Ivy and otherwise) want a broad range of talents, ideas, and perspectives. Nearly every one of these kids comes across as a glum study drone without an original idea in his or her head. Free your mind and you will find success (and happiness).

@philiprubio85264 жыл бұрын
Value value value lol. I’m a bit biased cuz I go to uva but trust me even out of state schools like uva and Stanford and Umich are solid usually cheaper options and they provide the same prestige and rigor as Ivys plus good networks for careers in finance, medicine, etc just my opinion tho
@robicano12311 жыл бұрын
i sometimes wonder if these asian parents know the tremendous amount of opportunities at universities all around the nation.. not just at ivy league schools. i'm a high school junior and i'd love to go to Princeton (considering i live in the town next door), and with a 95 weighted gpa- which i've worked my ass off to maintain w/ hrs and ap- i think there's a possibility.. but whatever happens i know in the back of my mind there's great schools all around. if only they would accept that
@islespatrick12 жыл бұрын
"All parents..especially chinese parents want their kids to go to Harvard!" Why not let them just go to a community college, or something that will make them happy..instead of forcing them to go somewhere that won't (unless that's THE place that will fulfill your dreams).

i don't think it's just asian parents. I'm Carribean American and there is a CONSTANT CONSTANT pressure to get into an Ivy and get a "good" degree and be successful and your grandparents and the rest of the family to be able to brag back home that their family got into Yale, Columbia, etc. It's just unfortunate that most people group us with AA and believe that we're unambitious and what-not.

TJTheProud I wouldn’t say smarter, they just have more attractive applications with various other activities on them. It’s important to have extracurricular activities on your application, job experience, community service, good letters of recommendation, etc. These kids are just counting on their GPA and test scores.

@boblynam927311 жыл бұрын
Ok, I would like to say that there is a reason why some of these Asians did not make it into ivy leagues. For one, colleges does not want someone who will study in their dorm all day as some of these kids show. They want someone who is well balanced and can achieve extremely good grades. I've seen various people from my school who are geniuses and they did not make it into the ivy league college they wanted. Colleges want uniqueness. Not the stereotypical view some of these asians possess.

I'm in the NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) in my school. I'm in 7th grade and I've been dreaming about Duke University and Harvard University since I was 8. I'm going into highschool in 2 years and I have high honors in my school so in 6 years I hope to get into an Ivy League School. My parents been on me to work my butt off in school and I have I just hope all that works pays off in the future :))
