Imagine it without the crown guards

Everyone is talking about the price being too high. How many times do you need to be told that this is a Genta design, it’s an incredible value and hopefully sees limited production to protect the investment for all those who do decide to purchase. It’s an incredible movement, 120 hrs is enormous and why do they need to put anything different in there? Lastly, the crown guards are an essential modern touch for a well rounded sports watch in the 21st century. Those complaining about the price just want to cash in on the hype without paying for it. Sure it’s not cheap but if it was $20k it wouldn’t be on your radar anyway and still be justified, you’re mad because it’s just slightly out of reach for you. Everyone and their mother has a Rolex and are no longer exclusive, this right here is for those who can buy the Rolex but chose not too. They made a conscious decision to buy the IWC because they know it’s different and will be noticed by those whose opinion is valuable. Not just every dude who knows a Rolex, which is everyone. Truly a timeless classic piece from IWC.

I think the price is a bit high considering its predecessor's price and the fact that IWC mucked around with the design before bringing it back to its original design, clouding its lineage. But for anyone who buys one and keeps it long term, the value will be there. It’s a Genta design and if values drop a bit, they will come up.

I think it's to expensive as well, it's not a in-house movement, it's a Val Fleurier movement based on the ETA 2836 movement, you can buy a Cartier Santos with the same movement for under $10.000, or for the same price as the IWC you can buy a Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix!

Agree with KeepingWatchUK. I’ve said it elsewhere and will say it again - Wei’s interviews are some of the best around. He’s animated, articulate, engaging, and brings out the best in guests (often who are not native English speakers). Great job!

I have the Mark XX which has the same movement. It runs incredibly accurately when it is fully or near fully wound. Unfortunately, when I leave it in my drawer for a few days and it is in the second half and more towards the end of the 5-day power reserve the movement runs incredibly fast - way too fast. This happened just today when I picked up the watch after not having worn it for a few days and the watch was two/three minutes ahead of the actual time. It's definitely not a good look that IWC is using its customers yet again as beta testers for new movements. The exact same happened with the 5000 series movement some ~20 years ago - only one mainspring barrel with huge power reserve and then running super fast towards the second half of the power reserve. IWC has since fixed that by adding a second mainspring barrel but it certainly left a bad taste at the time. Sad to see the same thing repeat again with this movement now. Please don't view this post as unfriendly criticism or trying to put down IWC as a company. I am into my fifth IWC watch now and I am looking to add the new Portugieser 40 with the salmon dial for which I already put an order in with my authorized retailer.

Too frigin expensive ... what market are they targeting? (above $10k it's got to be an incredible proposition - this is nice, but not for the price)

For me an amateur with limited budget, I may choose to buy 1 piece of Baume & Mercier Riviera 39mm with Baumatic 120 hours USD5500 (inc VAT) or a new Tudor Black Bay GMT Polar white (newest 2023) dial USD4500. If I am not mistaken, both IWC & Baume are using the same caliber (as sister's company of Richemont) IWC Ingenieur 40mm 32111 caliber 120 hours USD11,700. Am I right?

I have ordered the black, hoping to receive in the next month or 2. However I heard the movement is not in house but a developed Richemont calibre. Do you know if this is the case? If it is not having a wholly owned in house movement, it is a bit of a distraction for me. But wont prevent me from purchasing. I have the silver face spitfire chrono on the integrated bracelet, fit and finish, delicious. I am a huge fan of IWC in general. To have a gerald genta designed/ iteration piece in my collection is a dream..

Sadly, as stated, this watch doesn't have the in-house movement which is unacceptable for a reference costing 12K .. No matter what IWC does it ends up unwanted and consumers go for a Rolex or Zenith lately ..

I thought Omega price gouged the hell out of their watches. IWC took the cake and all. $13k for a basic movement that is nowhere near COSC or METAS certified is absolutely unjustified. Of course, how else would they pay the sponsors on the Mercedes-Petronas F1 cars that are constantly shitting themselves for the past two years?

What he HELL? at minute 9:05 you suggest the price to be cheap. Lost all integrity after that. EVERYONE knows the price is way too much, I would argue 2x as it should be even. Poor journalism to not stay neutral and to crawl up their butt. Really embarrassing and trust me, watchfans and enthusiasts note and remember this stuff.

I’m quite conflicted- I think the titanium version does look great but then you realise actually titanium is hugely over rated , the watch seems to be overly priced based on the sum of its parts and then there’s its competition to name but one I personally still feel the steel GP Laureato looks a nicer watch than the steel iwc . Lots of hype surrounding this new iwc which is great for iwc but Iv got a feeling the sales qty won’t match up

So refreshing to have a realistic conversation about price and what a Trinity Genta design actually means value wise… and something I would love expressed more of is this movement… as a Richemont collaboration, this is significant. This isn’t some cheap thing from ETA, as a base caliber it has for example, a higher power reserve (72 hours) than any Rolex in history, and then companies like IWC can do as the olease and get it up to 120 hours is remarkable… too many ignorantly trash this collaboration movement… great job! 🔥🔥🔥

Pricing is incredibly unattractive. In what world does IWC command the MSRP pricing of VC fifty six, Rolex Daytona or nearly 3x a seamaster. Pricing at 8-9k would’ve been competitive not 13.5

Green dial is the best!

It looks like they took the case and bracelet from the Direnzo DR4 and added crown guards. But I will say they took it up a few notches with the dial and faraday cage. Very nice.

all great interviews from W&W, too bad most watches have that “been there done that” feeling, i do feel microbrands are way more interesting right now then these traditional brands

The movement is a huge letdown, IWC should have considered this aspect for a real resurrection of the Ingenieur. Crown guards are also dragging it away from the Genta design.

I think anybody that cares about a Genta design is guna say, ETA movement for 12k???? I thought it looks great then saw the price, pass.

Love IWC, but to my knowledge there is no quick adjustment on the bracelet and you are asking this amount of money for it? No way this is acceptable 2023. And the watch is marketed towards technology and engineering…. 😳🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

The only thing I would have done differently is put the IWC at 12 like the original and had the cursive underneath but I understand you have to have brand consistency unfortunately

If IWC will let me walk in and buy the titanium model, I’ll purchase one. If not, I’ll never walk into another iwc boutique again.

The new Ingenieur is a little bit too small for my taste. I wish it was 41mm. Also too expensive for what it is. No see-through caseback and a movement that is the same in other IWC watches that costs way less. The bracelet has no quickset adjustment I believe so that is a bummer also. Overall a good looking watch that is too expensive and could have been much better imho.

This shows perfectly that it is not!! easy to produce an attractive integrated bracelet watch and why there are only a very few which are really beautiful. This one is not. And you will see this on the second market where these watches will be available way under list price. The interviews of Weih of course are always very interesting and good.
