They are not sociopaths. This is almost the ultimate "What you are in the dark" scenario. Sure they are taking advantage of the situation to have fun, but going beyond mild shenanigans is out of the line. While nobody else would know, they would remember themselves. Many (Most) people don't like choosing the "evil" option in video-games for similar reason
