Jack Haley (best known for his role as Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz) and Ann Sothern speak some poetry and sing a nice little song.

Jack Haley was an unusual type of man who had more of a stage persona, but had the problem of not being the "Hollywood" type of Leading Man. As a result he was cast in supporting comical and novelty roles.

He was a charming, appealing light comedian/crooner/dancer......and perfectly suited to play the sentimental Tin Man.

If you check the final editing/cutting script for "The Wizard of Oz", you'll be disappointed to see a number of scenes and bits for Jack Haley that were CUT from the final print before it's release in 8/39. Most unfortunate is his scene in the OPENING FARM sequence, where he shows Dorothy his "invention"..a contraption he's built in the barn that's supposed to be able to control wind and cyclones. There were lines about the importance of OIL, the problems with RUST, etc...all of which POINTED TO HIS FUTURE OIL PROBLEMS as the Tin Man. When Aunt Em tells them to get back to work, she says to Hickory (Haley) "I saw you tinkering with that contraption", which makes no sense since we never see it. And have you ever wondered why Haley says "Someday they're going to build a statue to me..."?? That also refers to his invention, which was CUT from the film during audience previews, since MGM execs feared the film was too long (..and many fans are familiar with the fact that "Over the Rainbow" was almost cut in that scene for the very same reason). ALSO CUT was a "BEE" scene, where the witch makes good on her promise to turn the Tin Man into a beehive (animated, cartoon bees were supposed to emerge from his body). The Tin Man then accidentally kills a bee, and cries over its death (a still from this scene was actually released, and can be seen as part of the montage on the back of the 1956 LP jacket). Lots of other single lines of Haley's were also clipped prior to release; it would be a real miracle if any of these out-takes survived and would re-appear. LR

Being cute was Haley's biggest handicap considering the male movie star standard of the time. That is why he was cast in light comedic roles. His casting in THE WIZARD OF OZ was probably his greatest display of acting compared to his other screen appearances.

@DisneyBlackJet Too funny, my younger brother is fourteen and he is a HUGE (and I mean huge!) fan of Jack Haley. I am so gald to see there are teenagers who like him and other great classic actors. We need more adolescents like that!

Apparently, he was too cute to be a leading man... But he wasn't really the comic relief type either.

I love this song so much. 😍😊 Jack Haley was such an underrated singer, actor, and comedian. He was funny, charming, handsome, and talented. I really do love his movies. Danger, Love at Work might be my favorite, though Pigskin Parade is great too.

He had a radio show and was doing it while he was filming THE WIZARD OF OZ. In you ever noticed the bags under his eyes in OZ it was because he was tired, obviously.

It's true...especially in the shots when they talk with the doorman ("Who rang that bell!?") and right after the witch has melted. Jack looks so tired and haggard in those scenes, which just adds to the overall sadness of his character. But this song (above) is really delightful. LR @@RayPointerChannel

“Danger, Love At Work” is an example of a film genre that was popular for a short in the late 1930s: the screwball comedy. In such movies, the lead character would have to deal with one or more really kooky or oddball people, who often were rich. Here, Ann Sothern is a member of the eccentric family that Jack Haley is having to cope with in a real estate sale. And of course, they fall in love - if you couldn’t guess.

I agree, he's amazing! Knowing it's not his voice in "Wake Up and Live" makes that movie unwatchable. Knowing he has such a great voice and they dubbed it anyway is a mystery.

Lol, people have seen me and others talking about Jack Haley in a certain way, saying things like: "He's so cute!" "I've had a crush on him all my life." "He's adorable, I just wanna hug him." "Oh my god! Jack's voice!" "Look at those big blue eyes." "His voice is so dreamy." And things like that. And yet, when people see that, they barely raise an eyebrow. Then the Rugrats reboot brings Kimi back before Dil, and everyone riots. I want to know, if crushing on a 1930s actor is okay, how is the appearance order of two FRICKING CARTOON CHARACTERS not okay?! WHAT KIND OF WORLD DO WE LIVE IN? LIKE, IT'S A REBOOT! THE MOVIES ARE NOT DECANONISED! IT'S LIKE WICKED, IT'S AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE. IT'S KIND OF A FANFIC. Dil IS coming, it has been confirmed. But you don't care because you're too angry that KIMI IS ALREADY HERE! Why?! JUST WHY! *sobs hysterically* Keep all of the Jack Haley simps in mind, please. I'm going insane over it.

It’s interesting to think that, by 1930s standards, this was the equivalent of a steamy sex scene lol. The implication of nudity when Tony threw her clothes over the stable door I’m sure attracted some wolf whistles by male viewers at the time.
