tips from a trans guy wet hair. just like randomly spill water all over yourself 1 it is v manly and cool 2 youll cool down and be hydrated af 3 wet hair always makes me (my experience) look better always carry water with you have one of the masculine flasks or a bottle with a carabiner to go on your belt (that will also push your shirt up in a masculine way aka make your hips less wide) whenever you get the chance to fill up, drink as much as you can and then fill it up again short hair like buzzcuts is 10/10 in summer, every one looks sweaty and uncomfortable, use that and experiment with your style. Yes you might be wearing a 20s style school boys uniform and look like a wannabe navy seal but josh came to work in swim trunks so whatever all good summer activities happen at night

As a goth trans guy from South Florida where it's already 100 degrees out, I laughed. I work one week each summer in Texas, and I am that one guy in black skinny jeans, black shirt, and combat boots whole it's 115 out. Definitely make friends with us goths. We have sunblock, umbrellas, water, folding fans, and shade. :) Another tip: there are little packets of face sanitizing cooling wipes. Sanitizing your sweaty face helps with potential acne, and cools you down.

This one does cost some money, but try suggesting movies as an activity. Summer block busters are a thing and there is AC in the theatre and also, it's dark! I always felt my least dysphoric in movie theatres because no one is looking at you but you're still fully participating in the group activity and you can just fully lose yourself in the story for a couple hours.

Even if you're not weirdly small you may want to look at children's clothing. I'm adult's medium typically but I saw a shirt I liked but it was children's. I got XXL which is actually too big but it's just baggy so its fine. You'll want to hold it up to you though so you know what the size is as child sixes are not the same as adult sizes.

Cis-lady checking in on not shaving. I haven't shaved (legs or underarms) in about 7 years. I just stopped one winter and hardcore didn't feel like it in the spring. It is pretty much not noticed across the board. I've gotten one (super awkward) compliment on it, but mostly when its discussed it's because I bring it up. I say that I like saving time, and that we have body hair for a reason, to wick away sweat, and that there are many cultures where body hair is normal, and I don't want to cave to the social pressures of what a woman is supposed to be. Obviously, not all of these will apply to people not wanting to shave as a trans guy, but just wanted to encourage that it doesn't have to be a THING to not shave and still be female presenting. Sincerest apologies of I'm stepping on any toes here, just noticing how long this comment got.

I'm nb and only have mild-moderate chest dysphoria, so this won't apply to everyone, but: summer is a great time for short-sleeve, woven fabric, button down shirts. That kind of material is really good at not clinging the shape of your body. Woven cotton doesn't cling. Linen, if you can get it, clings even less. If you have a small chest you can wear a woven shirt a size larger than your normal size, and nobody will be able to see your chest. You will look flat, and feel cool, and it will be great.

NB with a mild chest dysphoria as well and these shirts literally saved me last summer! + the fact that they are wide, flowy and button at the front, if you leave a few buttons unbutton they'll automatically make you look flatter as an optical illusion and bonus points they'll keep you cooler

I would recommend getting the sides of your hair cut shorter for the summer because 1) you (maybe) will pass better and 2) you wont get so hot. Hats are a life saver, i wear them all the time because they make my neck look wider and my face look more symmetrical i guess. Sunglasses can help too if youre dysphoric about your eyebrows not being thick enough. Another tip is make sure your body language is very confident and in control like you dont care what people think. Eventually after doing it over and over again it will feel more natural and youll become more confident. I have social anxiety and i know its hard to look confident sometimes, but it just takes practice. Happy summer to everyone reading this, i hope you have a nice day!! 😊

Something that I'm struggling with is leg hair. I came out to my mum (she's still processing it) but not my dad and I've got very dark hair and pale skin. They both pressure me a lot to shave. However! I've got pretty sensitive and also weirdly thick skin so when it grown back after shaving I can't exfoliate but I get a lot of painful rashes where the hair is growing back in. If you don't want to shave and think bringing up patriarchy with your parents won't fly (it certainly wouldn't with my dad) you could say you've been experiencing rashes when the hair grows back in and want to avoid it. That won't work for my parents if I went in public with unshaved legs, but it's kept them from harassing me about it around the house.

As far as the leg hair remark, I tell people that leg hair is honestly the most natural thing and I'm comfortable not shaving. My sister thinks it's disgusting and reminds me of that fairly often, so I'm used to it now. But I don't like shaving, never have, and once it grows to a certain point it stops. It's not like it's never ending and I'm "going to braid it", as has been so eloquently commented to me before. It's very natural and has become more common for women to not shave. Anyone who has an issue can get over it.

Before I came out recently me and my whole family went to the beach. I was debating whether to shave my legs or not, and I ended up not shaving them. I wore basketball shorts the whole day and no one asked me about it. So don't worry too much over it because I doubt people will just randomly come up to you and say "why aren't you shaving your legs?" So don't stress about it too much :)

i think generally it's a good idea to wear a looser binder or swimming binder, so if your regular binder is tight then i'd avoid it. swimming is one of those more crucial breathing times :'-0 and if you're going for proper swims i'd treat that like any exercise

Regarding not shaving / shaving your legs when you're not out : i don't tend to get any stupid comments on it (I'm 26 and adults are thankfully.. Well... Adults.. At least the majority of the time) but if I do I'll say: - well you don't shave your legs do you? Why should I as a woman (internal cringe but hey.. I'm not out) have to shave? (if it's someone with leg hair (most often cis guys)) - "it started as a body image experiment and now I've grown too lazy to shave" or "body standards are just temporal and it's not a fixed forever rule" (if it's someone that follows the "shave your legs convention" or a person that will likely understand this pov) But tbh if I was in a school where there are a lot of mean kids I wouldn't have the guts to do this and it's okay if you can't do it yet.. There will be times when people care less and/or you don't have to give a fuck. ❤️ Ps: if you're an indecisive / easily influenced person, I'd suggest to start growing out your leg hair in the winter.. Because then the emotional costs of loosing all your beautiful grown hair will be too high and it'll help you stick through some stupid comments 😁😎

I go to thrift stores to buy shirts to cut instead of new ones, it just sends up looking grungy and saves money. I'm lucky enough to go to theater camp all summer where everyone is really accepting. Eventually I just stopped caring about showing my binder under tank tops and sometimes swimming in a sports bra (under a shirt. Somehow I was able to do all this without being out to my parents, I've just been really lucky I guess.

Also, for binders, if at all possible, you should try to find a tank top binder. Basically, standard binder, but it’s sewn so it’s attached to a nice tank top (and this way it’s always with the tank top, so there’s no drifting) I have one that I got from a friend (he bought it online but it didn’t quite fit him) and I LIVE by it. Can’t remember the brand name, but I know I’ve seen some similar ones around, so see if you can find one. Seriously. They’re great.

HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE!!! As someone that lives in Australia I can confirm a lot of people drink about half the amount of water they are meant to, over the summer's (& just every other part of the year because Australia is just all summer) I've seen way too many people (& friends) get heatstroke/sunstroke. So make sure you are drinking several litres of water a day! (Especially if you're going outside)

Tips I've found helpful for staying cool while you can't dress as lightly as others: Several safe binder companies have mesh binders for hot weather. They’re generally a slightly less tight bind. The Shapeshifters one has three layers of mesh in front and only one in back. As someone with heat intolerance and sensory processing disorder, some tips for dealing with hot weather: * Personal misters and personal fans that have a built in mister. They’re usually pretty darn cheap, something like $6-15 US. * Cooling towels and bandannas. They are often marketed to construction workers and other occupations that work hard in the sun in hot weather, and athletes. They work through evaporation. You soak them in water - even room temperature water - and they stay cool for quite a while, depending on how long you’re in direct sun. They work best when humidity is lower. You can find them in print (especially traditional bandanna print), or a few different solid colors. * Cooling hats. Most work on the same principle as the bandannas. Some have wide brims to also shade you, or neck shades. They are also available as beanies, baseball caps, cooling hoods, and gaiters. * Cooling vests. There are versions to wear over or under your clothing, and various degrees of cooling. There are big beefy ones with mega-cooling for people doing hard physical work in the sun, and more discreet versions for people who want to hide them under their clothes. Expensive ones have water circulation cooling, while there are cheaper ones that use the same technology as the towels by holding water which evaporates slowly for hours, or with reusable cold pack pockets which you can freeze in your freezer. Almost all of these are gender neutral in design, though there are some prints and styles that may be read as more masculine or feminine. The cooling vests can be worn over a binder! (Some should actually not be worn directly against the skin. Check each one’s instructions.) Some brands of cooling towels, hats, and vests I’m familiar with: Occunomix Polar Products Mission Wear loose, natural fiber, light-colored clothing over your binder, even if you have to wear long sleeves/shorts. If you're especially susceptible to heat stroke like I am, don't go places in the heat alone. Have a buddy with you. Because confusion is one of the symptoms, which can lead to being unable to help yourself out (such as by getting out of the sun or finding a place with AC).

I have a tip that may work. My thighs rub together and that's especially not fun in the summer because chafing is painful. I use Glide, which has no scent, and a powder and not only does it prevent chafing but also find that I sweat less with the products on. I use the Glide to keep the powder in place otherwise it will stay on for like, two minutes. So, maybe some of y'all want to try it because it is effective for me. Cheaper than that, I've also heard people using deodorant. So really, don't limit that to just your armpit.

Hi there! AFAB genderfluid twentysomething here :) I, funnily enough, get much more comfortable in my own feminine body during the summer, because I live in a relatively cooler country, so summer means I can wear big flowy trousers and dresses and I get to see so many of my sweet loving friends, that summer is the absolute best time to be (during the schoolyear I'm surrounded by strangers) But swimwear is something I struggle with. I love wearing very flashy outfits, so same goes for swimwear. However, I have never been comfortable with my chest in bikinis, so last year I found some more covering tops: a bandeau or haltertop for example. The bikinibottoms are the most difficult, because a) I have a very bodacious bod and b) many are very small, slinky, and aim to make your body more curvy. I like the idea of high waisted bottoms, but then half of my butt falls out. So what I have started to do is just wear 'normal underwear' as bikini bottoms: a hipster model or skintight shorts. They don't make my body more curvy, but still show my strong broad legs. On dysphoric days (not synonymous with masculine days) I have a sporty bathingsuit that I wear with the skintight shorts. This is much more of a pro swimmer outfit, but I feel much more comfortable, because I feel like feminine beauty is often very sexualized and that makes me uncomfortable. So the unsexy nature of the outfit makes me more comfy -\o/-

Hey there fellow genderfluid buddy! I personally enjoy long sleeve one pieces, because they're rather snug at the chest, meaning that they do bind a little but not alot. If you're not out yet, you might be able to convince your parents to let you wear more masculine swimwear (such as rashguards and swim trunks) by saying that you want to cover more of your body to avoid sunburn. If they're adamant about not buying you anything from the men's section like my parents are, you could probably find non-cotton shorts that work just as well. Added bonus: you will get less sunburn. Hope this helps someone! (:

As a trans person with a larger chest where half binders often let some stuff accidentally slip out, I suggest putting cornstarch based baby powder on your chest and binder to avoid chafing and heat rash. This also works extremely well when you are still damp after a shower but need to throw your binder on, as it gets rid of the excess moisture

Firstly, I feel as though it is important to say that I just bought that exact same shirt. Also, thank you so much for this video! It's my first summer with a binder (and first one being completely out) so I really needed the tips. But some things I picked up from my transmasc friends are that short sleeved button downs are a lifesaver, because they box out your shape, but keep you cool, as well as usually not being too costly, if you hve long hair, tucking it up into a baseball cap, and (this is less of a tip, more of a heads up) but gc2b binders all double as swim binders! You can wear them in the water, just make sure you give it a good wash afterwards. Thanks so much again for making this video! (wowee i really overdid it on the commas and exclamation points)

I wanted to mention that even using 'official' binders CAN still cause permanent longterm damage. I've been binding for a decade now, and it's done a number on my skin elasticity - which means when I get top surgery, it will need to be double incision, and the lack of elasticity may also affect my surgery results. It's also given me chronic back pain. Binding 'safely' doesn't guarantee it won't cause problems down the line.

Kinda first summer on T--I started in August last year, but I started on such a low dose that I wouldn't really count that. :D Aaaaaand last summer binding...I'm having top surgery August 15! I am a little worried though...my surgeon doesn't want people binding for four to six weeks before surgery. I don't have the paperwork in front of me to be able to give the exact reasoning, but I remember him saying something about skin irritation and better scarring. Haven't heard of that from any other surgeon, but all of my friends that have used him have had good outcomes, so hopefully it comes out okay! So on one hand, only six weeks left in a binder (until post-op)! But on the other, not looking forward to spending July and August in Southern California without one. Great video, Jackson!

I just wanna have fun, I went swimming a lot and even went canyoning for a few hours! I made a lot of supportive friends and one of them even lives in the same city as me! I love this video so much. from some personal experience, I would not suggest wearing underworks during the summer as the material isn't very breathable and I notice (I'm on T so it's worse) that I get VERY hot and am constantly sweating under the binder. GC2B, while not my favorite brand as a larger chested guy, is made of very cool and breathable fabric, I wore a gc2b binder in Florida during one of the hotest weeks in the year and totally forgot I was even binding so definitely opt for a non-underworks binder for those really hot days otherwise you run the risk of over heating and underboob sweat can cause rashes
