Don't know if I should sympathize with gays. To be honest I don't like the gay lifestyle. However I do know that they are God's children for whom Christ died and of such I can't bring myself to hate them, otherwise I would be going against the will of God. I don't think I will ever be tolerant of such lifestyle. But God is a God of everybody and loves all. I don't understand the variables that makes a person gay but it might take me some time and intervention to change my outlook of their sexuality. I remember well that as black people we were hated and persecuted because of our differences so i do not want to be like those who hated us and in some cases still do because of our differences. Because of this I do try to change my outlook and my level of tolerance for gays. In any case ones sexual preferences should be kept out of the public eye. It is fool hardy to congregate as a group of gays in full view of the public in Jamaica and not expect resistance and persecution.

I was saying that you don't have to be defensive and that they weren't referring to you when they said "us", nor were they actually referring to gays. The person said "not one of us" to pull from the Us vs Them sort of narrative...the "us" in her comment was actually the majority of that population, straight people. "Not one of us" meant "not heterosexual". Even more simply put, the commenter was upset at people for treating others badly for being different.
