This is so awesome. Thank you for posting. I've seen quite a few interviews of Tina on KZfaq. She is always consistent. So warm, optimistic, and sure of herself. Such a Lady. This interview, before the release of the movie, is the same kind of interview that she did all over the world, but thinking back to the time the movie was released, you could not extrapolate from this 1993 interview the deep impact the movie would have on the acceptance of Tina Turner by America, not to mention the world. At this point, her life had already changed, but the movie was like adding rocket fuel to a rocket that was already ascending. There are some videos of Tina's 1993 tour, which are incredible, but for me, her best year was three years later. As good as things were for her in 1993, 1996 was extraordinary. She looked even better and her concerts were even more ecstatic. Two hours of nonstop amazement. At the end of watching her concerts, I always wonder how she stayed on her feet at the pace that she kept. She was 57 with the energy of a teenager, but at the end of watching, I always feel energized. And, that smile and the fun are simply infectious and invigorating. I just Love Tina Turner. She's about to turn 78 and I just saw her give an interview for the play about her life that's getting ready to come out. She's still doing Proud Mary, but without the heels. Smile. She is such a wonderful, inspiring soul. Also, I think there is another Beyond album coming out for those who like her spiritual music. Again, thanks for posting. This is such a treat!

I love the story about MLK helping the revue get a place to stay. I think some ppl forget how different life was 50+ years right before music took that leap of dividing the generations. Segregation between whites and blacks as well as classism with blacks. I recall hearing TT sayin that in early 60s it was shameful for black musicians to display sexuality on tv, more so than within White society.

It's not that black people ever stopped liking her music, it's all due to radio station politics and demographics. Even though all music is really derived from Black American culture, rock and roll like Tina sang in the 80s really wasn't embraced on black radio because New Jack Swing and Hip Hop were growing in prominence. So it's not about a race of people liking the music or not, it's about radio station playlists catering to a certain style of music that is deemed popular at the time. But what's interesting is that as much as Tina is the Queen of rock and roll, she had great difficulty getting played on Mainstream Rock playlists even at the peak of her success in the 80s. Other female rockers like Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, and Heart were scoring number ones all over the place on the mainstream Rock format, but they only touched 5 or 6 Tina Turner singles. with rare exception. So the queen of rock has a grand total of 2 top 10 singles on the US mainstream rock chart, and both are duets.

FACTS!!! Tina revealed in Ebony Magazine and in her new book that when she began to work on her album Foreign Affair she reached out to many American Record producers and many were booked or didn't return her calls so she recruited the late Dan Hartman. After that album was released it was hard for her to get air play on many American stations due to her and her staff being told that her music was too Pop for Black Radio and too Black for Pop. She did get play on Adult Comptemporary radios so she decided to relocate to Europe for good and I don't blame her. Since I launched my podcast I feature her music on the regular

Tina has never claimed to be the world's biggest recording star. She makes most her money from touring & endorsements like real stars with power. Many of the singers singing on the radio are not even getting paid for the song they're singing. TINA holds a Guinness world record For most female Concert tickets sold ever! No one could touch her in that lane! Not even those rockers you named scoring number ones on the radio who are all WHITE females

I dont think the interviewers had seen many interviews Tina did to know what questions to ask her. Donnie asked her why she wasnt wearing a skirt. Shes said before the sex appeal thing wasn't her thing. It just came. She only wore short dresses because she could move better to dance.

Imagine that, they wanted to depict Tina as being a profanity using lady in the movie, "What's Love Got To Do With It," about her life when she wasn't one in real life! I assume that is the "producer", the "director", or who would be the person doing that? The thing that really bothers me is that many movie goers see something like that and then totally believe that is the real person. I can't believe the gall of someone wanting to portray a person as having a personality that isn't theirs when it is the story about their life! Hello, how dare you! Angela Bassett, who played Tina, has to be commended for standing up to these fools. Any time i see a Hollywood movie that supposedly is a "true story", i always wonder "what sort of crap has Hollywood added that isn't even true".

IT WAS A GREAT INTERVIEW, BUT YOU CAN TELL #TINA WAS NOT GIVING HER FULL SELF AS SHE DOES WITH WHITE INTERVIEWERS AND THE QUESTIONS ARE BASICALLY THE SAME AS ALWAYS ABOUT HER LIFE BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER IKE. BUT IT JUST WASN'T HER CUP OF TEA...WE AS BLK PPL I DO NOT THINK TURNED OUR BACKS ON HER VS HER TURNING HER BACK ON US, BUT EITHER WAY SHE IS SIMPLY THE BEST AND MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE #TINATURNER...SHE'S AMAZING AND I AM GLAD TO BE BORN TO LIVE TO KNOW THE LIVING LEGEND; "#THEQUEENOFROCKTINATURER"...ONCE AGAIN SHE IS THE BEST AND I LOVE AND ADORE HER!!!!!!!

@MickeyDs14 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, she seems like she doesn’t have to keep up an appearance BECAUSE she’s around Black people in this interview. Even the answer about Angela protecting her image was said with appreciation and laid back energy. Black people read too much into what Tina says and does because of Ike and because she’s a rare individual. She knows she’s Black, she just doesn’t care that she’s Black. Judging by her books and interviews, I think her problem is with Black people feeling like we all have to be put in the boxes white people make for us. In her mind, she’s more than that. She even said once in a Rolling Stones interview that the reason she enjoyed rock music, is because white people didn’t make sad music since they didn’t have to go through things Black people did. That stuck out to me as her saying she was tired of being held in a position of sadness.

@@MickeyDs14 exactly! Tina is the queen!💙So much respect for her. I think too many blk people think too much about race. The ones that don't..are the ones that are at peace and comfortable in their hearts and souls.
@MickeyDs14
@MickeyDs14 3 жыл бұрын
@@gypsygirl9 That’s not what I said, either. I’m Black and we don’t think about race all of the time. Race makes white people uncomfortable, so they’d rather chalk all people of color up to being “human” instead of embracing what makes us different from them. It actually says more about white people because they don’t want to hear difficult conversations that cause them to check themselves.
