I love the poetic irony of Johnny working as a handyman when he rescued the kid from the bullies. In tne original movie, Mr. Miyagi was working as a handyman when he rescued Daniel from Johnny and his gang.

What I enjoyed is that you can watch this early part without having seen the movie. It continued the story but stood on it's own. Once they tried adding too many eastereggs, references and characters from all the movies - making them required viewing - some of the charm was gone.

I actually think that the teenage love part adds a lot to the series. Let's remember that Jonny and Daniel started fighting because of Ali. Now the kids are like a reflection of what they used to be. I think it adds to the story because it makes you understand a lot about the characters decisions. I'm trying really hard not to spoil anything, but we know that some characters went through a dark path with romantic love and or betrayals being part of the reason why. I'm not saying it's the most enjoyable part of the story, but it sure adds context and character development.

An aspect of the series I enjoyed seeing evolve is Cobra Kai actually being a type of Tang Soo Do. The choreographer in the first film tried to make the characters have some distinctive styles. In the 3rd movie, Terry Silva mentions their master as being Korean, and decades later in the 3rd season of the show Kreese's teacher explicitly refers to it being TSD.

Love it, this is how I found your channel. I love how it comes from your fresh perspective even the fact that there is no Coors in Japan so you didn't know it was beer. Can't wait till you go through all 30 episodes if you time it right you might get to Season 4 right when it comes out.

If you haven’t watched it already I highly recommend that you watch “Daniel Larusso bad guy”. It’s a different way of perceiving the 1st karate kid movie. Once you watch it you’ll never feel the same about the karate kid movie. It also opens the mind that there are two sides to every coin 😊

This is an awesome show! In Taekwondo class, I used to teach kids how to do the pop-up kick, referring to Karate Kid as an example. But most kids nowadays haven’t seen the original movie(s). 😿 I think Cobra Kai is really targeted at us oldtimers.

I happened across your channel completely by accident - but I have been really enjoying your commentary on The Karate Kid movies and the show. I was a teenager when those movies came out, though I admit I never saw them. As an adult I started watching martial arts movies - actually inspired by a guy in New York City who has hosted the Asian American Film Festival at Lincoln Center for years and on his own does these old school Hong Kong movie marathons - 6 movies, twelve hours. Most, of course, are Chinese, but I really love them because I've been a dancer most of my life and still teach, so I really love watching the fight choreography. I think if I had discovered these movies earlier in life I would have loved to take classes. Thanks and keep up the great work!!

Yusake , the bonsais presented are more cuttings, young trees that are presented as bonsais. Nothing to do with your bonsais in Japan which are generally very old.

Darn it, I was super confident this show had ZERO plot holes... then you got to throw in that flawless Bonsai tree math. I'm actually serious lol, I never thought about the time it takes to make a bonsai vs how many he has to give away. Doesn't matter, still love the show 😍

@@realityorfiction LOL right?? But seriously, it can be explained in that he gets them sent to him pre-trimmed from some farm, I mean the audience wouldn't really know or care if a farm like that actually exists. Plus hey, he could be lying, if he runs out of trees maybe he just tells his customers he is out but they'll get one soon haha.

That was awesome. I found your channel a month ago and love it. My background is: I started Wado Ryu Karate at age 13 (I am now 44) and got my black belt, I then relocated and couldn't find a Wado Ryu club so started American Kenpo. I learnt (basic) Japanese at school, and am thinking of learning it again - such a beautiful language! On and off I trained and got my black belt (over a 20 year period), but still find myself drawn to the old school teachings! I love your channel, love your energy. thank you so much for the videos you upload and keep these Cobra Kai reaction videos coming, they're awesome! I'd love to see you watching 'Bloodsport' and 'the best of the best' and 'No retreat no Surender' too one day!! All the best and many thanks again.
