I've followed the NFL since the 1990's with my favorite sport being rugby league. I think Hayne is an awesome talent, but I can't imagine he's got the time to learn enough to get a starting RB spot this year, he will probably get the special teams gig after those few good returns he had. If he was trying out for a much better team, he would be struggling to get a spot at all. I hope he does well though, it will get NFL more coverage here, and that is only a good thing for me. Go the Dallas Cowboys, and my Brisbane Broncos! Premiers 2015 (hopefully).

Ok for all you USA natives out there. Jarryd Hayne was a Rugby League and AFL player. When the commentators say rugby we all think of Rugby Union. Which is a tad different to Rugby League. Usually these days of professional sport the two 'rugbys" the skills are interchangeable and players can play both. Brad Thorn, Sonny Bill Williams, Sam Burgess, Israel Falau are some examples. You NFL fans look them up they are awesome, there is a player Ma'a Nonu who's keeping Sonny Bill out of the All Blacks ( New Zealand national Rugby team), look at him we think hes better than Jarryd Hayne. Also others Manu Vatuvei, Frank Pritchard Both League.

+Robert Perry "Rugby" = rugby league OR rugby union. You expect American football commentators to explain to the audience the difference between league and union? You think football fans give a fuck? From the standpoint of American football, league and union might as well be the same game. And they ARE both rugby - they are essentially the same game, many of the rules are still the same, and league backs have NO trouble converting to union.

Typical of an Australian sports star. In Australia their sports are very basic in comparison to American Football. Their favourite sports are Australian Football Rules, Rugby League, and Rugby Union. All three sports don't have much theory and game planning. Jarryd Hayne failed because he didn't have the patience to learn the strategic game of American Football. He had to learn two different playbooks in two years. This was too much for someone who played professional rugby league.
@maershkinschrabs75973 жыл бұрын
Basic? American football is comparable to golf, lawn bowls or pokemon gold. A whole lot happens on a piece of paper and not much on the actual field. NRL athletes have much more experience in game with all situations. A whole lot more happens in a game of rugby. You have to improvise alot more and think for yourself. Nfl athletes are stunted by their inactive sport, they dont think for themselves on the field, everything is a set play.
@setefano88522 жыл бұрын
Lol actually there is alot of strategy to the game of rugby leauge and union. It dont seem that way cos its fast pace and it dont look like that but there is alot of strategy and approach to the game and how to get he best out of your players.

Trust me mate, the NFL/gridiron footy is harder than it looks. I know first hand how hard it is. I started playing League when I was five in Junee and I captained the team for five years as a Junior. Laurie Daley, was one of my teammates, perhaps you've heard of him ;) All in all, I played League from the under 6's up to under 16's, and also played some reserve grade as well, while I was still 16. Playing two games in one day was a tough ask, but I loved it. Unfortunately, I was attending a Catholic school which prevented me from playing any junior representative football. That was just the rules back then, and I was gutted at the time. And then after completing year twelve, I received some medical advice that due to my history of concussions, that I shouldn't continue playing football. I was gutted, again, but I ended up taking the advice. Years later, I then had the opportunity to play some Gridiron in a local competition in Sydney. I played the same position as Hayne - halfback. (or tailback). So then here's the thing, in gridiron there is absolutely zero regard for any level of self preservation from either the defender or the ball carrier when it comes to tackling, obviously that is due to the protective gear. And due to the type of hits allowed, tackling technique is less technical, but the hits are still hard. So which is harder? I really dunno mate, they're about the same IMO, but the hits are just different in that game, and for someone like me playing halfback the hitting was very satisfying, because as a ball carrier I could hit anyone on the defence that I wanted. It's sounds weird, but learning to follow blocks was one of the hardest adjustments in gridiron. It was so ingrained in me to avoid shepherds at all costs, that it felt extremely unnatural to be looking for them instead. It was also just as difficult to adjust to not keeping your arms free and looking for the offload pass in tackles. In gridiron, if you are standing in a tackle, you are going to have a bad time, as you're an easy target for any other defender to spear through you. Anyway mate, have a good one.
