My psychopath ex- failed everything in life (as she herself admitting on her coaching page), she took Jay Shetty' shitty weekend training and became a life coach helping people harnessing the power of the BS. She is mentoring and treating young and teens as she failed to acquire and sustain adult clients!

Somehow every so called life couch I have known has been pretty narcissistic and not the nicest people to be around in real life. Maybe they feel better about themselves for "helping" out others but also they are doing it for money $$$. And its always easier to teach others than put those same teaching into practise by oneself.

You're so on point about these grifters' fixation with Marie Kondo being about her success at writing a book that actually brings something of value and then getting an an equally successful show where she demonstrates to people that it works,. These fakers are so jealous of her, especially perhaps because she seems not full of herself like them and isn't part of their pay to play circle jerk.

Jay Shetty has NO training in the realm of mental health - as in real science. I accidentally hit one of his videos - because he was supposed to be interviewing Dr. Gabor Maté. Immediately the "interview" felt off putting - as this Jay guy wouldn't shut up. I lasted maybe 3-4 minutes into the video and moved on, wondering who this annoyance was supposedly conducting the interview. Thank you for calling him out.

I was in the same place he once lived in in London. Yes. It’s true that he spent time there. I even saw his wife once. It’s true he spent time in an ashram. However, it’s also true that he’s definitely capitalizing off of spirituality. He goes very much against what they teach at the ashram. There’s nothing wrong with money and having nice things, but now he took what he learned and marketed it to the masses. Spirituality is free, but now he created “life coach certifications” and is banking. Some think it’s genius. Others think it’s opportunistic .

Preying vulnerable people who are desperate need for help and thinks if they pay him 7500$ for his life coaching course all their problems will be solved 😑 And how he gives back to people like he preeaches? .. buys 8 million dollar mansion and Ferrary for himself. What about poor people? Why he allways surrounds himself with celebrities and rich people only?! What a humple monk indeed. Such a saint.

When referring to the girl in the slums of Pune, he mentioned that his own father worked his way out of the slums in Pune. For some reason I do not believe his father came or lived in the slums of Pune. In addition if he ever did live in the slums and happened to make it out a lot of it had to do with his caste. Given that he came from a relatively privileged caste it would have been easier for him to move out of poverty than someone from an untouchable caste for example. Also he mentioned that he doesn't say hi to the Uber driver. This doesn't surprise me, a lot of the Indians who have settled in Britain tend to be quite, arrogant, consented and do not have the same manners and respect that the British population is known for.

I agree with you I don’t buy that he is living with a monk mentality as he likes to present. He grew up rich and privileged and whatever his monk experience whether real or not reminds me of the girl boss lady cosplaying as a poor person bc she was bored. And Jay realized he could create a niche in the self help industry and has capitalized on the monk image despite living an extravagant lifestyle. Also can confirm that my life is not the same as fucking Jeff bezos. When u make less than 100k annually, 1 million dollars would change ur entire life. These rich “gurus” are so out of touch. The brilliance of the "self-help" or "wellness industry" is that the assertions are vague enough to evade scrutiny from others in the same industry. This is distinct from religions, where religious figures constantly call out "false prophets", the only metric for gauging someone's "wisdom" in this industry is that they appeal to enough people. If that's achieved, their success creates a veneer of authenticity. Their self-proclaimed wisdom is, in a sense, baptized in money.

I am a Hare Krishna follower and have read the Bhagavad Gita, which I must say has transformed my life. One of the way this organisation goes about attracting people is by way of Vegetarian feast and Music - this two things can literally remove stress and depression. You got to read Steve Jobs story many years ago that he use to travel miles just to eat the food at Hare Krishna. I feel saddened that all this negative issues with Jay Bullshetty is attracting negative media coverage to iskcon. That is not fair! In an organisation with millions of followers you will always find a minority who are crooked and dishonest. From whatever little i know of jay Bulshetty and from many people who knew him, he DID not spend 3 years to become a monk in India. In 3 weeks you simply cannot get realisation. I am glad that you guys have exposed him, but please do not create unnecessary bad publicity about ISKCON, it is a good organisation

Saw this review after the recent expose of Jay Shetty. I think you are way soft on Jay Shetty, especially him drawing a parallel between his father's hard work and the girl without hands eating from garbage in India. That's just one step removed from blaming HER for her circumstances. He seems to be saying that his father worked himself and his son out of poverty, and correspondingly somehow the girl's parents didn't. He has no clue what happened to her or her family. It is completely inappropriate to speculate on someone who is suffering so much who you just saw for a few seconds, and even that to feel better about and justify your own privilege. The rest of the book is the same plethora of wisdom quotes culled from a variety of different sources that have been circulating on Facebook for over a decade. No wonder Jay got caught plagiarizing them.

The only gripe I have is with the idea that mental health professionals can't also have a god complex, get things wrong or can't also screw up their patients/clients despite years of training. All of the isms (sexism, racism, ageism, etc.) exist among mental health professionals as they do with all other sectors of society.

31:10 Being from India, I can say that, monk hood is not a career, people want to do this for the purification of their souls and to understand who they really are at their core, which is generally difficult to realize by living a normal life in the society. So people who wish for such realization to that extent, choose to become monks. The words he said about monks are true but not applicable to every monk you meet. Such monks are very rare and difficult to find. But they do exist. It's like every one studies but only few become top most. And moreover it is not compulsory to do that. People just choose different ways. You can Google about Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekanada, Veera Brahmendra Swamy ( who made predictions about future), Lord Buddha, Swami Mahavatar Babaji ( whom people believe he is still alive in Himalayas) etc., and so many.

Also, maybe I’m being overdramatic here or whatever, but it’s just greaatt that the way he’s introducing the west to buddishm is to make up violent stories regarding Buddhist monks. Idk, I’m not trying to come off as some white savior here lol, just saying, it’s interesting that he’s told multiple stories about them being violent and evil when they’re not, and most people in America/UK don’t know much about Buddhism. Carmelia, I'm just seeing this video you did on Jay Shetty's book 'Think like a Monk'- you're right though; some of the stories he writes in the chapters (and I'm guessing they're meant to be analogies) don't seem to really 'fit' the context of what is being explained, and others just seemed incomplete to me as well. Like you'd be expecting the 'punchline' of the story to be delivered clearly to 'get' the message, but it stops short of that! You'd be asking 'and?'... Some others also seemed quite detached from the import of the theme of the chapter or its heading🤔 Anyway, a good review all the same!

There is something very untrustworthy about his eyes. Almost creepy tbh. I do not buy it! Glad I’m not the only one. Whenever celebrities are folling a trend or a person or thing, that’s a major red flag for me. All hype!

His attachment and desire for fame and wealth certainly owns him. Also his attachment to his look, he thinks he is gorgeous. If he would suddenly end up to the streets, would he still be oh so happy and content? Would he still want to "heal the world" and " help" others if people would not pay for him thousands $ for those courses and "teachings" which are nothing unique anyhow. I doubt. That seperates him from real monks and spiritually humple and wakenened people.

Are you kidding me? Jay is above us all, hovering ethereally over every other human being because he was (don't you dare forget) a monk for two/three years. He started out authentic but began using his alleged monk life as if it was something, he had lived for years and started cashing in the big bucks. When I saw him hanging out with the Smiths, I knew that he is well on his way to becoming a fraud. Why? Because birds of a feather, flock together. I absolutely hate that he leaves his wife alone for months on end to travel around the world; increasingly, she's out there dancing on Instagram and selling tea (when they are together, they behave like brother and sister because they've lost the connection due to his consistent absence. The distance between he and her is palpable). She's very much becoming another lonely woman online. I now see Jay as a fraud who has sold his soul for fame and who has fallen in love with himself. That pretty face of his has definitely helped him rake in the views and he knows how to play the game.

But he hasn’t shared anything he learned about Iskcon or Hare Krishna that I’ve seen! He’s only copied and pasted other people’s work and the people who supported him were his friends at Watford temple.., he’s now just chasing money and lost his faith.. both him and his wife no longer wear tulsi mala.. both fake!

I’ve never really been much of a fan of his. He was semi interesting when he first popped up but I quickly noticed the contraditions between his so called philosophy and how he presents himself. Then one day I was scrolling and his podcast was on. He was interviewing Kim kardashian. That sealed the deal for me.

Nobody needs? That’s hurtful. What am I then? I needed his words. That’s completely disregarding how he helped me. Psychology is too complicated to make claims like that. It’s egoic to give a fuck about who said the message. It’s not about the , it’s about people who need help….

Okay, Jay isn’t and wasn’t a monk according to what I found. He interned in the corporate offices of ISKON also known as Hare Krishna. I have no problem with the Hare Krishnas they know how to have a good time. He also lived in an Ashram in Mumbai, living the life of a Vedic Monk. From what I can find he was never initiated, thus is isn’t and wasn’t a real monk. Also, he combined a the messages of various South Asian religious/spiritual traditions to create some New Age concoction to sell to the West. 🤮 Also, I know you are trying to be humorous. And this is meant as constructive criticism. However, the way you are making fun of Jay includes things that are apart of real people’s religious and spiritual traditions. I know the traditions came to the West and got distorted but yea ceremonies are a real thing and they are lovely, incense is burned during Hindu pujas, and meditation is apart of all religious traditions that come from South Asia. However, I totally agree with you that these South Asian practices can’t cure mental health issues.
