@@A-AronReacts That's just absolutely true. The first time I realized this dilemma was when I saw reactor after reactor interrupting Angelina's rendition of "I put a spell on you" with each new 'shock' smashing in, and I just thought to myself, "Wait a minute, just keep it going and listen, because it's one banger after another and you won't be able to keep up otherwise." But that's wishful thinking, because it won't happen. BTW -- great reaction, AS ALWAYS, but... uhmm... when you don't let it run until the end, you might miss out on stuff... All the very best from Germany

Hi A_Aron. Just before this I watched your reaction to Summertime. I had nothing to add to your comment so I just sent you my love. Here is just about the same except for one aspect, and I add my voice to that of Larrypifer who expressed my same feeling. How many 8yo singers have been allowed to have the support of a bunch of grown up back vocalists that you know of? None that I know of. Not only here. In Must be love She had a hole church/gospel choir backing Her up as well as in It's Now or never and some others. I think,if you feel like, that you should stress this point. To me It's a testament of how great She was already at such a young age. Don't you think?👍🫶👋💫

Angelina an eight year old Norwegian girl, who happens to be a musical prodigy. She has God given talent that is how she does this! Singing in her second language! Her control and precision are out of this world! What other eight year old has adult back up singers! This was just a month after winning NGT and performed at Sing Along At The Border, which Angelina has appeared numerous times! I would recommend I’ll Be There: she was actually sick during this performance-kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jLB5qtmIydWzY6M.htmlsi=sYMBFlD-cwVeAJXW Basically was asking what she was going to do for the summer-going to the US to sing and vacation! Eyes closed going to her special place! Angelina was codified a National Treasure of Norway by the King and Prime Minister when she was eight years old! 🇳🇴🇺🇸

Angelina performed three other shows on this same avenue, which is close to the border with Sweden: "Feeling Good" (10 years old), "Something's Got a Hold On Me" (11 years old) and Elvis "It's Now or Never" ( 11 years old)... all of they amazing and inspiring.. The shows in this arena are usually of the sing along type... the audience receives the printed lyrics to sing along as the artist if they wish. (This is most evident when she sings "It's Now or Never"). The impressive thing about this performance you are reacting to,, besides her incredible vocal technique, is the fact that she performed alone (far away from the backing vocalists and even further away from the band itself) in front of this huge audience, showing her bravery, courage and determination in such a young age, and how much she loves to sing for the people.

He also said "I got to study and I got to mimic and what I basically did was I stole from every person that I could steal from. I was an imitator that’s what I was. It was years before I could take all of these things that I loved about and these different artists and put them together and find my voice." It's astounding it took Angelina not that long as Michael to get to that point.

You’re so spot on with Angelina emulating these legendary artists and she conveys the emotion too. As you’ll see when she starts recording and performing her own written music she develops a distinct style of her own with the influence of her roots. It’s hard for a mon-musical knowledge guy like me to explain it in terms that make sense but her unique style crosses genres and the most beautifully written thoughtful uplifting messages you’ll ever hear in an artist, just the feel and sound of her original work is incredible, glad to be on this journey with you, thanks for all of your input

The stars and planets aligned when Angelina Jordan was born. The journey of an artist can indeed be profoundly affected by their socioeconomic background. Angelina Jordan's financial stability has arguably given her the freedom to explore and express her creativity without the immediate pressure of financial survival. The most profound individual in AJ’s life, according to her, is her grandmother, Mery Zamani, artist/poet extraordinaire who’s knowledge, wealth and genius have tutored AJ, and cultivated her unbelievable talent. This is a luxury not afforded to all artists, and the music industry is replete with stories of immensely talented individuals who have faced immense pressure to succeed financially. This pressure can sometimes lead to a tragic struggle with substance abuse, as seen in the cases of Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse. Their legacies serve as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of the immense pressures of fame and success in the music industry. It's a complex tapestry where talent, personal circumstances, and external pressures interweave to shape an artist's career and personal life. (CopyRight)

When Angelina sings "stormy", I believe she's using a vocal technique called "knurdle" or sometimes "kermit", because of it sounding like kermit the frog. She does it again when she sings "makes" at the end of the song. She doesn't bring this out often, but, off the top of my head, she used in Feelin' Good (at 10), when she sings "day is done", and again at the end of the second run after she belts "Road" in her AGT Yellow Brick Road performance.

When Angelina said in the intro section of her Gloomy Sunday audition that she wanted to be a superstar, it wasn't just a dream, it was a plan, and she was about to take the first step. Since then with every performance, you can see her deliberately picking her way to stardom by her choices of classic songs. (Next, by the way, is Fly Me To The Moon on The View.) As for "Lord" - what a beautiful slide! Another highly informative video from my favourite reactor. Thank you once again!

I like your number counting of reactions and it is so nice to get insight from a jazz-musician. I heard a lot of bad jazz, giving me no feel, until Angelina came into the picture. I noticed at once she was special and i love her jazz now (addicted). I voted for her win and saw her live(was 6 meters away) in Kongsberg Norway summer 2022. My best concert ever! Excellent review with lots of research and insights, but I kept waiting for you to play the VERY END of that video. I kept repeating over and over, "Play the end! Play the end! Play the end!" I wanted to see when she takes a bow and sort of "hugs" the microphone close to her chest. It's one of the many endearing moments from Angelina's past, singing and performing like an adult, then immediately morphing back into an 8 year old child.

At another site the reactor mentioned that someone complained that she was copying. She mentioned that helps you to develop your own voice and I made a detailed reply that was very similar to what you said here so I totally agree with what you said on the subject. I like the fact that you pointed out that you could hear shadows of Billie even though she was emulating Dinah. I firmly believe that is one of the things that has allowed her to combine genre's in a single song. As she did more and more covers of different artists she became more versatile and flexible in how she could sing a song. You throw her interpretation and uniqueness into the mix and this is what you get. None can describe her but I have tried and can think of only one way: you throw all the great singers into a pot, mix them all together---pour them into a mold and you get Angelina. Add family----esp. Grandma, a dedicated Angelina who loves what she is doing and these are the results. I heard someone once complain about her covers "I don't want to hear Ella, Frank, Elvis, etc. I want her voice. Really. I don't play guitar but if someone complained that I sounded like Stevie Ray Vaughn I would think them a lunatic. I would settle for a duplicate of that in heartbeat but there will never be another SRV just like there will never be another Angelina Jordan. For all that got to this line--thank you for reading this I hope you got something from it. Note: I really like what you are doing with Angelina. More detailed than anyone else I have listened to.

Please, A-Aron, play Angelina’s videos to the very end. In this one you missed her cute smile and bow. On her Cover Channel she usually waves and says, “Bye.” Her child’s voice comes as a big contrast to her mature voice. In a lot of early live performances before an audience she curtseys. In my mind it shows how humble she is. It’s all part of her charm. So please play her songs to the very end.

Aaron, this video is often regarded as the favorite Angelina performance for many of her devoted angels all over the world. There are so many things going on in the video that capture our attention. We begin to swoon right after, "What a difference", is sung. That smile after she sings, "There's a rainbow before me", touches our heart and that smile indicates she is very much into the message of the song. There is absolutely no question, Dinah Washington's spirit smiles every time she hears Angelina sing this song. A little story: I was in my kitchen washing some dishes at the sink. The little tv I have in the kitchen had a movie on, 'Casino', and it was about the birth of Las Vegas. There was a tremendous sound track to the movie and at one point I began to hear 'What A Difference A Day Makes'. But, it was the sound of Angelina singing it. How could that be? Could it be possible my cell phone was on and it somehow started playing Angelina's version of the song. I dried my hands and went up to the tv and put my nose right up to the screen and I realized it was Dinah Washington singing. I had to sit down and listen to the rest of the song, I was in shock.

Angelina DOES arrange the songs to suit her, and they are almost always better than the original. watch her cover of Adele EASY ON ME. its even better than the original. someone even did a mashup video of Adele and Angelina singing the song and of course Adeles is from her music video and Angelinas is a LIVE version video.

I have been compiling a timeline for Angelina's journey. Angelina's performance of "Summertime" was broadcast live on May 23, 2014. This performance of "What a Difference a Day Makes" took place on June 3, 2014. So just 11 days between the two performances. I wonder if Allsang Pa Grensen already had Angelina on the list of performers, before she won Norway's Got Talent. Would be interesting to learn.
@DonaldLancon

This performance was recorded on 2014-07-02 and broadcast on 2014-07-03. Look for the article at TV2's website titled "Angelina og Adelén åpner «Allsang på Grensen»" (published on 2014-06-12). Here are the relevant parts, translated by Google: "Norwegian Talent winner Angelina and football World Cup contender Adelén open this year's Allsang season. […] (NB: Broadcast on TV 2 Thursdays at 20:00) […] WEDNESDAY JULY 2 Angelina, Adelén, Lasse Stefanz, East 17, Johnny Logan, 80s medley: Arne Garvang, Lars Kilevold and Dag Ingebrigtsen."

Andy, there's a wrong date indicated in the video description, mixing up June with July. From what I know, this was recorded on July 2nd, and was broadcast on July 3rd. Search for the TV2 article with this title for confirmation: "Angelina og Adelén åpner «Allsang på Grensen»"

Andy, also for your timeline, you may want to have a look at my 2013/2014 recap video. I put great effort into that to pin down the performance dates as exactly as possible, and indicated those with imprinted titles at the beginning of each song. And if you want the background/sources for some of those dates, just ask that in the comments and I'll try to provide those as I did here.

I consider this one her most impressive performances based upon the quality of her voice, plus this is certainly the first time she has faced an audience if this size. And she's fearless. When you mentioned emulating I immediately thought of the attached. This is AJ one year later. No need to react to this. But it appears Angie heard Amy Winehouse between these two shows and reprised this song with an AW influence on Singapore's "Little Big Shots". This is a compilation /mashup of Amy (25) and Angelina (9). Can you hear the difference? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ismjhspirdXTd58.htmlsi=2ajiuETjy4yF5Ret

No, Dinah would not approve, she hated people covering her songs! She is more than a star, she is a national treasure of Norway. I’m almost sure that she prepared this song for NGT but decided on “Bang Bang” and “Summertime”, and she also prepared “Fly Me to the Moon” which is a signature song for her, even getting the attention of Quincy Jones who personally invited her to open his 85th birthday celebration at O2 Arena in London singing his arrangement that he did for Frank Sinatra and the Count Basie orchestra.

Actually Dinah wasn’t the first to perform this song. "What a Diff'rence a Day Made", also recorded as "What a Difference a Day Makes", is a popular song originally written in Spanish by María Grever, a Mexican songwriter, in 1934 with the title "Cuando vuelva a tu lado" ("When I Return to Your Side") and first recorded by Orquesta Pedro Vía that same year…

Great reaction & commentary, but you should watch, on your own, the mash up video that popped up at the end of this. It goes back & forth between Angelina & Dinah singing this song & it will blow your mind. No need for a reaction video since you've already done the song, but you can hear the slight difference between them & it will only take 3 minutes of your time to hear how close this is to the original.

You did link to the subtitled version, so I'm not sure why you didn't see the subtitles (YT's "CC" captions). You might have to click on the gear icon and specifically choose "Subtitles/CC" → "English" [not "English (autogenerated)"]. I've heard other people talking about having to do that. There is also an upload of this with the subtitles in the video image itself: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/md50adVjuNybg4E.html (the image is quite low-res during the interview portion but sharpens up for the song - although still not as high quality as the video you watched here).

Look up the definition of the word emulate. You’re completely misusing that word in defining Jordan’s talent. She has the unique ability to change her vocal tone to sound like the artist of the song she is covering. Billie Holliday, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Gloria Gaynor, Miley Cyrus, Etta James, Lana del Rey, Amy Whinehouse, Michael Jackson (Heal the World). She doesn’t just imitate the artist for a few lines, she sings the whole song channeling that artist. They used to call her the girl with a thousand voices, for good reason. She’s been training her voice 4-6 hours a day, every day, since she was about 3 years old. She just turned 18 this January 10th, was enrolled in an afternoon music program in elementary school in Oslo,Norway where she was taught how to deconstruct, rearrange and read music and to play several musical instruments, two of which she still plays, the piano and the guitar. Put all this together with the innate ability Jordan was born with and the world has a very special vocalist and humanitarian!

@@A-AronReactsIf you don’t understand the difference, let me explain it to you. She’s not trying to copy these artists with the idea of surpassing their accomplishments, which is the definition of emulation. See the difference? Reread what I said about what she can do with her voice, it has nothing to do with emulation, which is a superficial desire to which Jordan would never have any aspirations.
